Week 14, 2023, Texas v Washington, College Football Playoff Edition
And here I thought I was weird for watching big games solo. Shit, even the “easier” games I chose to attend were less than pleasant for the people who joined me. I’ll be sipping/chugging manhattans all night

Week 14, 2023, Texas v Washington, College Football Playoff Edition
All three of those games were 3 point upset wins. On paper and matchup-wise, it makes sense to favor Georgia and Oregon. Whether it's Oregon's shitty decisions in the first game, or taking too long to get going in the second game. Whatever the case, UW got it done. Georgia didn't play great against Bama, but Bama played really well situationally to hold on and win that game.

Texas Recruiting Notes 2024: Bags Don't Beat Bankrolls
Notice how he doesn't mention KJ Lacey being committed to Texas as part of the draw of going there. Alabama or Auburn, and I think they could both flip to Auburn on the same day.

Is he declaring that he's gonna help the NFL prepare for the event?

Oklahoma Recruiting 2024: Sunken Eyes and Licking Lips
Our guys are good, but those guys are both good too. I think Gibson was the initial primary, but Clark was probably just as if not more desired. I also believe the EE thing was an issue due to baseball.

Penix doesn’t seem like the brightest guy, but he can sling it. You would think a 10th year CFB QB would know how to respond to those types of questions by now.

We don’t want Nansen, we need to keep Sark as clean as possible from whatever demons he had in the past. Good coach, but not worth the risk at this point.

Alamo Bowl - Arizona vs Oklahoma
Notice how they opted to avoid mentioning Spencer Rattler, and more notably, Caleb Williams

Maybe he gets a year at Ole Miss before ultimately heading to JuCo

Alamo Bowl - Arizona vs Oklahoma
They passed on Dillon Gabriel for this shit? What even makes him special as a QB?

Texas O-line talk
Don't gotta be big to be effective. He's athletic, plays with good leverage, and consistently uses good technique out there. You almost never see him off balance out there. He's also flanked and assisted by two giant guards.

Two Washington guys on that list. The LT probably isn't far behind either.

Opponent Analysis: Washington Defense
I was just about to post that. USC definitely has more weapons on offense than we do and they have an excellent scheme as well. We have a better OL though. If they had anything close to our defense, they would have beat Washington.

Week 14, 2023, Texas v Washington, College Football Playoff Edition
The stats don't tell the whole story, especially not with the way they do CFB stats with sack yardage. Check out the Oregon State game this year or some of his tape from Indiana. He's not nearly the threat with his legs as he is with his arm, but he can convert crucial 3rd downs and goal to go plays with them if given the opportunity.

Week 14, 2023, Texas v Washington, College Football Playoff Edition
I've watched just about every UW game this year. Penix is a capable scrambler, I think he'd beat Ford or Thompson/Taaffe to the edge if he needed to. I don't think he has much wiggle after the two torn acls in his right knee, but he can get going in a single direction. They may not want to, but they can, and we have shown some vulnerability there this season. I expect Quinn to run when given the opportunity on Monday as well.

Week 14, 2023, Texas v Washington, College Football Playoff Edition
Penix is a pretty capable runner, so maybe that is the wrinkle they show more of in this game. He's more mobile than most seem to give him credit for.

Week 14, 2023, Texas v Washington, College Football Playoff Edition
I believe we see Brooks/Watts due to their strong run support. Washington thrives on runs to the edges.

Week 14, 2023, Texas v Washington, College Football Playoff Edition
Yea, Penix doesn't make abnormally fast reads post snap. He also trusts his arm too much. His footwork tends to break down as he gets uncomfortable too. Would have loved to see him against UCLA this year. I don't think we need to get home to have success, but disrupting the short game enough to make him hold the ball and read the field will do wonders. I'm also interested in seeing how Ethan Burke's rush impacts Penix's tendency to drop way back in his drops. He tends to go more upfield than he should, but it may work out well in this game. Their tackles are pretty athletic and long but Burke is quick to the edge when he can key on the pass.

That sucks, he was really good. Happy for him though

Texas Recruiting Notes 2024: Bags Don't Beat Bankrolls
DB film is solid, but he doesn't have the build for it. 5'11ish and shorter arms. He's slight, but his best asset is his competitiveness. Quick/fast enough and plays tough as hell.

Texas Recruiting Notes 2024: Bags Don't Beat Bankrolls
It's the opposite. He was playing very well this year, but decided to stop so he could take extra classes and be a spring enrollee.

I'm sure they vetted him some, but he was just offered yesterday. Impressive for the kid to finish HS early after not planning to until recently
