Necrobump
I’m in a northern KC burb for work for a little over a week.
Hung out with a buddy yesterday around Lawrence. Sunday was open. I went to Truman presidential library. I have a low priority bucket list thing to hit all the presidential libraries.
The Tru’s been updated somewhat recently, and it’s really good. It has interactive displays, videos, audio to highlight key moments like the death of FDR.
There’s a corridor that steps through the timeline leading to dropping the bombs on hiroshima and nagasaki,
A corridor that shows the military and civilian death total for each country in WW2.
A room with a big globe that showed the global conflicts in the 40’s as countries fought for independence from their imperial conquers while the soviet union began a campaign of expansion.
A corridor that showed the events leading to the korean war.
There was a room describing the policies in Truman’s fair deal.
A room with interactive display that demonstrated mccarthyism and the senate hearings
It talked about Truman’s association with the KKK. It talked about the beginning of the civil rights movement.
I spent about four hours there and could’ve spent more time but they were closing for the day.
Highly recommended.
