  1. Seemed to me like that was his point.
  2. Yeah this reeks of intentionally avoiding an addition who might supplant Maldonado. If that’s the case, don’t even bother.
  3. They definitely didn’t overpay Abreu. That deal looks even better after the silly season of the last couple of weeks.
  4. That has to be it, because that’s a very reasonable deal for Narvaez.
  5. Now that’s a deal the Astros definitely should have done.
  6. Weird comparisons. Do Hoes and Straw even have double digit career homers combined? I don’t know if Meyers will make it or not, but he has some pop. What if I told you Chas had a higher career wRC+ than Benintendi right now? He keeps being underrated-he HAS shown he’s an MLB player, an above average one.
  7. I think Rojas has been the only one to really do anything out of the Greinke deal.
  8. You haven't been following this thread, I see. That's in the rearview mirror.
  9. Dave Winfield. That’s basically the list. And he was obviously a much better athlete than Judge.
  10. 3/30 is an overpay according to fangraphs projections both in AAV and years (2/16). Of course, the free agent market has gone insane in just the few weeks since that was published. But it seems to me that the Astros are not going to budge from what they think a player should be worth and are content to let others overpay. It’s the sort of thinking that has built the organization, and it’s proved to be wise in the past for competing over a long period of time. The potential danger right now is if EVERYONE is behaving irrationally to the point there are no players left, do you have to play the same game to compete? But they’re in a strong enough position as is they can afford to sit back and wait and see what happens and adjust if needed (or not when/if the competition is saddled with aging, expensive players in a few years).
  11. I haven’t negged anyone since it changed to the middle finger reaction. It just seemed so personal when I’ve always thought of it as directed towards the post. But I’ll make an exception.
  12. So….sounds like he wants to be somewhere else, then.
  13. Yeah, fangraphs had him at about 5/100. So the same AAV, but 8 years is crazy.
  14. Valdez isn’t going to hit free agency until he’s 33 and groundball pitchers age poorly. I think the smart money is to just play it out the next 3 years and let him walk.
  15. He looks good at all 3 OF positions according to both OAA and DRS. And he's serviceable at catcher.
  16. And Varsho has another year of control. I like him better than Reynolds too.
  17. I don’t like gambling on Brantley’s health since we won’t know anything for months, but I understand the argument there to a degree, even if I think there are better options. But I don’t even know what a “very friendly deal” for Gurriel looks like. He’s not going to be the 1B anymore. He’s doesn’t have the range to play all over the infield anymore. He looks washed as a hitter. Unless he wants to move into an off the field role where his leadership skills are still utilized-the only thing he offers of value at this point-it seems like a completely irrational, sentimental waste of a roster spot to me. Maybe if he gets “hurt” in’s spring training and spends the whole year on the IL hanging around the clubhouse…
  18. He’s actually an above average hitter. Has been both years, and improved his approach last season. This team doesn’t need a CF at all, it needs a bat who can play LF/1B/DH.
  19. Yes. Much better to let Lee play than sign a jag like Barnhart.
