  1. I haven’t negged anyone since it changed to the middle finger reaction. It just seemed so personal when I’ve always thought of it as directed towards the post. But I’ll make an exception.
  2. So….sounds like he wants to be somewhere else, then.
  3. Yeah, fangraphs had him at about 5/100. So the same AAV, but 8 years is crazy.
  4. Valdez isn’t going to hit free agency until he’s 33 and groundball pitchers age poorly. I think the smart money is to just play it out the next 3 years and let him walk.
  5. He looks good at all 3 OF positions according to both OAA and DRS. And he's serviceable at catcher.
  6. And Varsho has another year of control. I like him better than Reynolds too.
  7. I don’t like gambling on Brantley’s health since we won’t know anything for months, but I understand the argument there to a degree, even if I think there are better options. But I don’t even know what a “very friendly deal” for Gurriel looks like. He’s not going to be the 1B anymore. He’s doesn’t have the range to play all over the infield anymore. He looks washed as a hitter. Unless he wants to move into an off the field role where his leadership skills are still utilized-the only thing he offers of value at this point-it seems like a completely irrational, sentimental waste of a roster spot to me. Maybe if he gets “hurt” in’s spring training and spends the whole year on the IL hanging around the clubhouse…
  8. He’s actually an above average hitter. Has been both years, and improved his approach last season. This team doesn’t need a CF at all, it needs a bat who can play LF/1B/DH.
  9. Yes. Much better to let Lee play than sign a jag like Barnhart.
  10. They shouldn't sign any veteran starters.
  11. How many hitters going into free agency have had their numbers artificially suppressed relative to Judge because they didn’t get to use a juiced ball, potentially costing them millions of dollars?
  12. Why might it matter that a more lively ball-which means more likely to be hit for a home run-was apparently used only in regular season games featuring a guy who happened to be chasing a single season home run record (and who also happens to be playing for the league’s highest profile team)? Hint: it doesn’t have anything to do with the outcome of a particular game.
  13. No. Seemingly for Yankees games in general, particularly towards the end of the season (when he was chasing the record). MLB Used Two Balls Again This Year, and Evidence Points to a Third (insider.com)
  14. 4 years at $17/yr is right on the fangraphs crowdsource prediction (and is below what Clemens projected for AAV). If you have been wishing for Contreras, you should know that’s what it’s going to take.
  15. I thought that was his point. *Most* teams do after just a few guys.
  16. Meh. That could be about literally anything.
  17. None. Abreu’s the superior player, and making less than $3mil/year more. If anything, that makes the Abreu deal look even better. The extra year might backfire, I guess, but the AAV is right in line with projections, while Bell looks like a big overpay. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/2023-top-50-free-agents/
  18. "Belong" is an interesting way to phrase it. If the 12 team format were in place this year, for instance, you'd have teams like Kansas State and Utah in. Do you think they belong on the field with Georgia or Michigan?
  19. Which is again why giving a guy with one good season in his career 8 figures for the next 3 years was probably not a great move.
  20. Texas also beat the #1 team in the country.
  21. I don’t know that he would be. He has an additional year of team control, is a better defender than Reynolds, and has the added bonus of being your backup catcher if you want. Reynolds bat is better, but Varsho’s is still above average. For what it’s worth, baseball trade values rates him as more valuable than Reynolds.
  22. Varsho would be a great addition, but I doubt he’d be cheap.
