  1. Not sure how he fit in so well in such a Latin heavy clubhouse. At any rate, if a guy's contributions at this point in his career are more valuable off the field than on the field, then it sounds like he should be in a role off the field.
  2. Yes https://www.houstonchronicle.com/texas-sports-nation/astros/article/Martin-Maldonado-2023-option-kicks-in-17388095.php
  3. Some of you need to separate your emotions from the decision and realize you’re advocating resigning a guy who will be 39 and was worse than replacement level this year. He was a black hole on offense at a bat first position. It’s awesome he rebounded in the postseason. Thanks for the memories and let it go.
  4. So he didn't discuss the 2nd half in a section entitled "Great 1st half for Quinn Ewers and the passing game"?
  5. They’ve already got that guy. They need a LF. And 1B.
  6. That’s impossible to answer without knowing how healthy he is. That plus his age is kind of the issue.
  7. Then put them on staff if they are willing to retire and stick around. That sort of thinking leads to stagnation. Those positions can and should be upgraded.
  8. You misunderstand. They should try to resign Verlander. The other 2 should be sent down the road with genuine thanks.
  9. I think you’re taking a joke a bit too seriously. But you should be looking for his 5th hit anyway: he started the season 4-54. I’d call that a streak of futility close to 4-63, but we’re just splitting hairs. Maldonado is arguably the worst hitting non-pitcher in baseball history, so to be compared to him in any case means you’re having a bad run. Which was, you know, the joke.
  10. I mean, that’s just a typical 3 weeks at the office for Maldonado.
  11. I’d say he signed up for all of it-for multiple years, in fact. He willingly tied his career to Kyrie. He might not be responsible for any particular manifestation of it, but the insanity that comes with him is inevitable. That’s what he committed to. The questionable personnel decisions he forced all around that are just icing on the cake.
  12. Javier isn’t going to give you more than 5 innings max on short rest anyway (and possibility more like 3-4). The plan in a game 7 should be for both those guys to pitch anyway. I don’t get the handwringing over which one appears first.
  13. Maybe they look at sample sizes larger than one game?
  14. Agree with the general point, but with the Astros pitching depth, those 2 things aren't mutually exclusive. Luis Garcia would be a #3 on most teams - a #2 on some. He can't get a start.
  15. They’ll be filing that one right after bitterwhiteguy files his suit against surly for all the mean things said here.
  16. Yeah no way they can put up more than 4 runs against Philly…
  17. They force taxpayers to foot the bill for them anyway, what’s a few hundred million more?
  18. Funny, but irrelevant. I believe the discussion was about new stadiums that have been built, not replacing century old ones. You don’t need a roof in Southern California. And I don’t think anyone would advocate replacing Wrigley or Fenway or even any existing completely ordinary stadium for that matter. But there’s no good reason for any baseball stadium built in this century to not have at least a retractable roof in any part of the country where weather is a regular factor. It’s not football where you can just play on in inclement weather.
