  1. Or just play him in CF. I don’t understand why they seem dead set against it, he’s perfectly adequate there.
  2. Yep, this is right on. Except I’d probably put Diaz in LF and Mancini at 1B.
  3. Dubon ideally shouldn’t start against RHP ever, let alone being the platoon partner against them. His numbers are FAR worse than McCormick’s, both this season and career. He’s a valuable sub who can play multiple positions and should get starts a couple of times a week to keep guys fresh. That’s it.
  4. Gurriel should be playing vs lefties.
  5. Even with their reluctance to just go ahead and play McCormick in CF, they’re not going to leave a better than league average bat at home. But given that you’ll have fewer pitchers, it’s likely both anyway.
  6. You’re trading over 100 points away in OPS for those “mostly quality ABs.” And McCormick ironically has a higher batting average too. He’s even been better against righties, not because he’s been good, but because Dubon is such an anemic hitter. This is not particularly close.
  7. Using “bat” really loosely with Dubon. He should not be a regular.
  8. It wouldn’t have gone out at Camden Yards, true, but I wouldn’t call it cheap either.
  9. Even if Brantley doesn’t return, if you start Vazquez, Mancini at 1B, Diaz in LF, and McCormick in CF, everyone in the lineup has a wRC+ over 100. I don’t believe any other team can say that. That’s objectively not full of bad hitters.
  10. If they don’t get him, they should just roll with McCormick out there basically everyday. No one else realistically proposed is an upgrade.
  11. And a career wRC+ of 82. This is only the second season in his career he hasn’t been below average. I don’t really see him as an upgrade.
  12. Was going to add him. Can’t believe it took that long.
  13. Well the 2 they just got + Bregman aren’t there, to be fair.
  14. So more like a homeless junkie's Juan Soto maybe.
  15. I mean, one is arguably going to be the best hitter of his generation, reached the majors as a teenager, and is a defensive liability; the other is an elite defender who strikes out a third of the time and can't stick in the big leagues in his late 20s. They're practically the same guy.
  16. Oh I get why they would want him. But it seems like they gave up a LOT to get him.
  17. The Rays didn't get a prospect from the Astros, unless the reporting has changed. The only prospect I have seen that Houston sent out is McDermott to Baltimore. Which is why I find the move strange for them.
  18. I get this move from both the Astros and Orioles standpoint. The real puzzler for me is TB, who gave up 2 prospects (the one going to Baltimore is top 100! he's headed for Tommy John, but who doesn't these days?) for Siri.
  19. That's a great deal, if that's it's final form. Per Fangraphs, McDermott is a 40 and Murray a 40+ - so they swapped one pitching prospect for another that is roughly equal, maybe better. So they basically traded Siri for Mancini straight up. That's a win.
  20. Yes. He's played there some this year, and a lot in the past. That versatility+the likely lesser cost might have made him a more appealing option than Bell.
  21. Correct. He hasn’t played more than 40 games there since 2018, and none this year. I’m not sure he’s capable of it anymore.
  22. More like why for the Padres. That’s a lot to give up for a closer, even a great one. Especially considering they gave up an adequate one in the process: Hader: 37 G, 34 IP, 29 SV, 4.24 ERA, 3.47 FIP, 2.41xFIP, .6 WAR Rogers: 42 G, 42.1 IP, 28 SV, 4.35 ERA, 2.35 FIP, 3.35 xFIP, 1.3 WAR
  23. I think because he was on another level in 2018-19, everyone compares him to that guy rather than accurately assessing him relative to the rest of the league. He’s still a top 10 3B this season in WAR, top 10 in wRC+, he’s even 12th in homers. He might not be 2019 Bregman, but his numbers right now are extremely similar to 2017 Bregman-it seems that’s closer to who he is without the juiced ball. But that’s still a solid, above average player.
