  1. Bell is obviously the prime target, but Choi would be a decent upgrade in a platoon with Yuli, as mentioned. If you compare McCormick with any realistic CF trade candidates, I’m not convinced there’s a real upgrade there (of course, they could still use an OF bat in general depending on Brantley). And Maldonado will catch every playoff game-this should be known by now—so how much do you really want to give up for a guy who will play maybe 25 regular season games?
  2. If you have to ask, then clearly you’re not.
  3. It would be trading for a 1B. It’s a much easier position to upgrade the bat even in a vacuum, and McCormick is out hitting Yuli.
  4. KC would do that in a heartbeat. Houston wouldn't.
  5. Well you’d also be getting a former top 50 prospect you debuted this year. He’s admittedly struggling, but he was a first round pick when Click was in TB, so there’s familiarity there.
  6. This would be a solid move if there’s any truth to it. https://www.si.com/mlb/astros/news/report-houston-astros-tampa-bay-rays-discuss-ji-man-choi-jose-urquidy-jose-siri-josh-lowe-swap
  7. Massive overpay on paper for Castillo.
  8. Compare that the Astros only gave up their #3, 9, and 11 for multiple years of JV AND got the Tigers to pay a chunk of his contract too.
  9. Top 5 draft pick, top 10 prospect Kyle Tucker and minor league free agent Jose Siri are not exactly comparable situations.
  10. Too late to edit, but I meant to add that’s based on a faulty premise anyway. They’re not actually working less. The school day and year are longer to compensate.
  11. That’s not happening. One of the best paying districts in this area has been doing 4 day weeks for many years now. It is done primarily for budget reasons, sure, but no one is cutting teachers salaries.
  12. This is increasingly common where I live just outside Houston. Seems like at least one new district is going to it every year now.
  13. Gurriel makes 8 million , is in the final year of his deal, and Houston is $30+ million under the tax threshold. That’s just pure nonsense, even before you get to his standing in the clubhouse.
  14. FWIW, baseball trade values rates his value more highly than any prospect in the org except Brown.
  15. Or just completely ignore the last 5 days, whatever works. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2022/07/25/mlb-power-rankings-trade-deadline-standings/10141255002/
  16. This would obviously never happen in real life, but Baseball Trade Values accepted this: Astros get: Soto, Bell, Corbin Nationals get: Garcia, Brown, McCormick, Meyers, Diaz, Leon
  17. Jim Edmonds: the master of making easy catches look difficult by diving unnecessarily. One of my least favorite players of all time.
  18. He had a great serious turn as Burt Macklin.
  19. Justin Verlander in the 2017 ALCS comes to mind.
  20. It’s not about length of game so much as lack of action. An emphasis on 3 true outcomes+base hits being gobbled up means that there’s nothing going on except increasingly longer at bats most of the time.
  21. So many of the first 10 picks were college Seniors that they can sign underslot, they should have plenty of cash to facilitate it.
  22. Because first you’d have to pass over Antarctica which rings the entirety of the outside edge of the earth, of course.
