  1. Well fortunately there’s still a contingency plan in that they acquired a guy who can at least play LF at home. Unfortunately, they have to actually play him there. Or at all.
  2. "Neither should even sniff a playoff roster" is a silly swing to the opposite extreme. You don't carry as many pitchers in the playoffs, and Dubon's positional versatility and/or Meyers as a pinch runner/defensive replacement have value. If Derek Fisher and the ghost of Cameron Maybin can be rostered on a WS team, there's no reason those guys can't play a role.
  3. The idea that they have no other option in CF is simply not true. The advanced metrics all say McCormick is more than adequate there, and he’s easily the best hitting option there on the team. The continued refusal to play him there is baffling.
  4. He briefly used George Strait’s “The Fireman” early in his career, it’s in one of those linked articles.
  5. Just to pile on. https://nypost.com/2006/04/06/wagner-keeping-sandman-theme/ https://www.westsidespirit.com/news/the-great-sandman-battle-BYNP1320060419304199970
  6. You know what helps increase fielding percentage? Limited range. There’s a reason “past a diving Jeter” was a thing.
  7. He’s played more in RF this year and is actually a negative in DRS in CF.
  8. Yeah, who would ever think that adults would act like petulant children?
  9. Math is hard, apparently. Would you say you’re better at it or hitting a baseball?
  10. Or just play him in CF. I don’t understand why they seem dead set against it, he’s perfectly adequate there.
  11. Yep, this is right on. Except I’d probably put Diaz in LF and Mancini at 1B.
  12. Dubon ideally shouldn’t start against RHP ever, let alone being the platoon partner against them. His numbers are FAR worse than McCormick’s, both this season and career. He’s a valuable sub who can play multiple positions and should get starts a couple of times a week to keep guys fresh. That’s it.
  13. Gurriel should be playing vs lefties.
  14. Even with their reluctance to just go ahead and play McCormick in CF, they’re not going to leave a better than league average bat at home. But given that you’ll have fewer pitchers, it’s likely both anyway.
  15. You’re trading over 100 points away in OPS for those “mostly quality ABs.” And McCormick ironically has a higher batting average too. He’s even been better against righties, not because he’s been good, but because Dubon is such an anemic hitter. This is not particularly close.
  16. Using “bat” really loosely with Dubon. He should not be a regular.
  17. It wouldn’t have gone out at Camden Yards, true, but I wouldn’t call it cheap either.
  18. Even if Brantley doesn’t return, if you start Vazquez, Mancini at 1B, Diaz in LF, and McCormick in CF, everyone in the lineup has a wRC+ over 100. I don’t believe any other team can say that. That’s objectively not full of bad hitters.
  19. Could also place Castro on it.
  20. If they don’t get him, they should just roll with McCormick out there basically everyday. No one else realistically proposed is an upgrade.
  21. And a career wRC+ of 82. This is only the second season in his career he hasn’t been below average. I don’t really see him as an upgrade.
  22. Was going to add him. Can’t believe it took that long.
  23. Well the 2 they just got + Bregman aren’t there, to be fair.
