  1. Pretty sure it was Lobo himself (wasn’t he Cruiser then or something?) who started talking about utilizing the mattress scale.
  2. You have to be pretty drunk to think April falls between November and January.
  3. It’s been all downhill since the election of 1800.
  4. Actually they didn’t even have the same sticker. Have you somehow forgotten the metallic Longhorn?
  5. I already said you couldn’t really blame that fairly on Meyer. But he got in a bar fight as a freshman that no charges were filed in because the victim was in contact with UF coaches. That was pretty widely reported, you can easily look it up. Youre right about most fans here wanting him, of course. I never did and was open about that. I think he’s a pretty unsavory character. But you’re right that blaming him for Hernandez is silly.
  6. He was in a bar fight that could have resulted in felony charges that Urban swept under the rug. And then there’s the shooting he was questioned about-who knows what happened there. A bit more than just smoking pot. So if he were in jail where he likely belonged, yeah, Odin Lloyd would be alive. But I don’t think you can really lay all the blame for that on Meyer.
  7. Johan Santana* *Maybe But it seems the twisted ankle a month later is what really did him in. He went 3-2 with a 3.60 ERA, including 8 shutout innings against the Dodgers, in the 5 starts between the no hitter and that game.
  8. Yeah, how dare he report on something he actually covers 🙄 We should have put this thread on the “son, husband, beloved teammate” board instead of the football board, I suppose.
  9. I’m no fan of Schefter, but he covers the NFL, not obits. Of course he’s going to report on Haskins’ death in the context of his career, that’s the only reason he’s talking about it.
  10. Rock should have won the Oscar then. That’s the best acting he’s ever done in his life.
  11. Beat me to it. Of course the pronunciation of words is determined democratically. That’s literally how language works. (And on a similar note, that’s why dictionaries now include the objectively wrong, figurative definition of literal.)
  12. I’d have rather heard Neil Diamond.
  13. That’s pretty much the Grandaddy of all conspiracy theories.
  14. At least we can dispense with calling the definitionally non-standard time we’re on for only 4 months a year “standard” time.
  15. Fair enough, you’re probably right. If you count hotels (like others have on this thread), then yes I have. But only in my personal room. Also at work on rare occasions, but only in a private bathroom when no one else was in the building. So maybe I shouldn’t say I’ve never used a public restroom technically. But gas station, store, rest stop, restaurant, etc.-never.
  16. I have literally never crapped in a public bathroom in my life. Never even been in a porta potty. Im sure I just jinxed myself.
  17. The watch thread is a good subjective example, I'd say. There are legitimate problems that we all know about with stagnant wages, skyrocketing housing costs, student loan debt, etc. I don't want to diminish those or pretend to have a solution to them either. But it's worth noting that in the postwar period that we measure everything against, the average new home was not even a thousand square feet and your family vacation was probably a road trip to a national park or the like (with maybe 6 people or more crammed in a sedan). That was the middle class lifestyle. It was not buying 5 figure watches.
  18. I get that to some extent. But I think surly's perception of "middle class" is generally skewed. If a top 5% income is "middle-middle class," that terminology is meaningless.
  19. Without looking up the exact numbers, $200k is going to be something like top 5% in household income. How exactly is that "middle-middle class"?
  20. I grew up in Marshall. Water issues like you mentioned were never a thing. This must be a fairly new issue. On the other hand, it’s been nearly 2 decades since I left home. My folks moved to another town, and then my grandmother passed-I think I’ve been there 3 times in the last dozen years. So I’m in basic agreement with the general point of the op. I don’t have any longing for the place. I’d recommend Big Pines Lodge in Uncertain, but I’ve heard it’s not as good since it was rebuilt after a fire a few years back (and I obviously haven’t been).
  21. Just delete/move the offending post(s), please. This thread has mostly avoided that and is a fantastic source of info.
  22. Even with those added stipulations , the Soviet-Afghan War immediately comes to mind.
