  1. I’m worried about all the people who are taking a Hank Scorpio post seriously.
  2. I hate the proliferation of EDGE to describe a 4-3 DE/3-4 OLB type. I don’t mind the term itself, but it annoys me that it’s all caps when all other positions are abbreviated with one or two letters. It should be Edge, abbreviated with just an E. The only potential confusion would be with DE, but it effectively replaces that anyway. We don’t say a guy plays CENTER or SAFETY. It makes no sense.
  3. Why do I get the feeling that you’re this uncle?
  4. And it has to be hand washed too. What a bargain.
  5. His predecessor couldn’t even do that in 6 years. Yeah, we *should* expect better than that. But we need to be realistic too.
  6. I still can’t get over Burke being there at all. He’s not worth a dollar. Ignoring obvious guys (Bell, Alou, Finley, Luis Gonzalez, Hampton, Bass, etc.) who belong on higher tiers but won’t fit due to space, there are innumerable more worthy candidates at that level: Ausmus, Adam Everett, even Spiers come immediately to mind. You could pick any random jag and do better than Burke. Eric Bruntlett put up more WAR in Houston over the same time frame. Pull a random name out of a hat-Orlando Miller has twice as much career WAR in 2/3 the seasons. I’m probably taking this too seriously. But seriously. Come on.
  7. I was thinking this same thing. In fact, if you start studying the late Roman Empire, there's a sense in which even it didn't fall so much as become decentralized. Its language, institutions, even infrastructure endured, in many ways down to the present.
  8. I wouldn’t trade the corpse of Ed Price for him. No thanks.
  9. Bourn averaged 4.5 WAR for 4 seasons at the peak of his career (2009-2012). Doran put up a couple of 4+ WAR seasons and one at 5, averaging 3.4 for 8 seasons. Those guys are huge bargains at $1. And including them on the same tier as Chris Burke is almost insulting.
  10. Like in distinguishing between adjectives and nouns, for instance.
  11. My exact reaction to these two responses back to back.
  12. The 3/5ths comprise and forcing car dealerships to close one day of the weekend: two historic atrocities.
  13. I’d put it closer to maybe 20 myself, but that’s not unreasonable.
  14. Predictable response on surly. But if you actually believe most churches are literally engaged in money laundering or are hoarding a bunch of money, you’re not as clever as you think you are.
  15. Megachurches (and especially Osteen) are not exactly representative of organized religion in general.
  16. You can’t “obviously begin” a slide without sliding. We’re never going to agree on this. What’s the point?
  17. McAulay argues that it violates the spirit of the rule, but even he admits it doesn’t violate the letter. They need to clarify the rule. He didn’t obviously begin a slide. But I’m sure the next regurgitation of breaking down the play will make it all somehow clear.
  18. That’s a political party doing the grifting, not a religion. Admittedly they are indistinguishable to many people.
