  1. I bet if you took a poll, it would be 95%+ who would prefer to play Rice to UH. They suck. It’s basically official athletic department policy.
  2. This is a false dichotomy, though. Rice is the cupcake game. Tech is the mid-tier game. You’d play both, plus a marquee OOC opponent, in a given year.
  3. The 2 for 1 road game is good because it gets us in Houston occasionally. It’s one of those small things that might give an incremental boost to recruiting in the area.
  4. All of this. Don’t get all the angst.
  5. His barometer of running back greatness is...Travis Henry? That pretty much says it all for his scouting ability.
  6. I, too, make all my medical decisions in consultation with Pink Floyd.
  7. Nah, the first pic would have been Catherine Bell.
  8. We can’t all make monumental contributions like this thread.
  9. Counter-counterpoint: 1) Slavery was outlawed in Texas by the Law of April 6, 1830, which predated Santa Anna’s Presidency by several years; 2) That doesn’t account for the numerous other Mexican states that rose in rebellion against him. That the Texas “revolution” was partly motivated by slavery and that Santa Anna was an actual tyrant can both be true.
  10. Are you referring to that “improved” political compass that also had a thread this week? It seemed to interpret any answer that indicated belief in God as a sign you wanted to implement a theocracy.
  11. That’s the Catholic teaching that Mary was conceived without original sin, to be accurate.
  12. We really need an eye roll reaction for posts.
  13. Seriously? The NFL is the worst about it.
  14. The only players I see huddled up and taking a knee are the other team.
  15. Those numbers are potentially misleading given the different average ages of the populations. It would make more sense to divide by the vaccine eligible population than total population.
  16. It wasn’t a girls name before the 80s (it wasn’t really a given name at all).
  17. Some might argue that reposting every single meme you see on Facebook doesn’t make for a better poster.
  18. Surly can always be counted on for fertile imaginations.
  19. To give a serious answer-because I think these are precisely the sort of ethical dilemmas people should really wrestle with-my wife and I have dealt with “unexplained infertility” (there’s no known medical reason for it, it just hasn’t happened-multiple miscarriages, and trouble conceiving in the interim). After getting a whole menu of options from a specialist, we decided against IVF precisely because of discomfort with what happens to those embryos. But I would be against binding that sort of decision on anyone else.
  20. He’ll still be in high school.
  21. He has graduated. But you can’t just leave in the middle of the season and enroll in a graduate program somewhere else weeks into class. And I would imagine you can’t play for more than one team in the same season, though I’m not going to bother to look that up at the moment. Not to mention, even if that was possible, where is he going to show up at this point where he has a better chance of playing this fall than here?
  22. Yes, 2 years of eligibility due to COVID. He has already redshirted. There is no advantage to transferring before the end of the season. He cannot play anywhere else now. He cannot save any eligibility. It would be completely irrational.
  23. It read like one of Lobo’s bizarre jokes to me.
  24. Never trust a guy who thinks it’s a receiving “core.”
  25. There's zero reason for Thompson to transfer until after the season is over. Even if he could somehow get somewhere else and be eligible this late in the game (which is doubtful), his best chance at playing THIS fall is still right here, should Card get injured or just falter. Plus, that allows him a much better look at what other rosters look like in the Spring to pick the most advantageous situation for him. He could transfer out after the season, be wherever he is going for Spring ball, and still have 2 years of eligibility remaining with the additional year granted due to COVID. Basically, there's no upside to leaving now and plenty of incentive to stay.
