  1. And regardless, that was a catchable ball. That INT is on Sanders.
  2. Posts like this are so weirdly definitive. Even if you end up being right, it’s not based on anything other than wishful thinking at this point. There’s literally no evidence for your belief.
  3. Altuve is not going to be asking for a contract that lasts until he’s 45 years old. Come on.
  4. Even though he had a rough second half, Valdez was still 12th in MLB in WAR. He’s easily a #2. And I say that as someone who isn’t keen on extending him.
  5. Chas McCormick is available.
  6. That article literally states, "Once inside a Rose Bowl locker room, Brad quickly found that Colt had injured his right shoulder on a blindside hit by an Alabama player. His arm had gone numb. When Colt tried short passes in the locker room, it was as if he were throwing left-handed. Texas' team doctors said he shouldn't play, and everyone agreed but Colt." Maybe you should actually read what you're referencing. Stop trying to perpetuate a lie.
  7. Yep. The opening paragraph for hitters basically says it all: ”This section is usually a blow-by-blow of pinch-hitting selections. We’ll get to that, at least the few times that Houston used a pinch-hitter, but I’m going to tell you my complaints right at the start: Martín Maldonado played over Yainer Diaz a disturbing amount of the time, and Chas McCormick got shelved at the first sign of danger. I’ve spun those two decisions around in my head a lot while writing this, and I can’t get behind either of them.”
  8. I look at Eli Manning as the textbook example of this. He was too passive, too emotionless, not a leader, didn’t have “it.” Until he won a Super Bowl. Then the same pundits talked about how he was cool, calm, unflappable. Sane guy. Same demeanor. He didn’t change-it’s entirely result-driven, not predictive. I thought David Ash had the best concise take on leadership I’ve seen, remarkably insightful for a college kid: “"People say leadership is a lot of different things, but when it comes down to it, it is a really abstract term that has a different meaning to everyone. I think guys want to follow the guy who is going to put them in the endzone.” Anytime someone starts psychoanalyzing a player or talks about body language or “it,” you can pretty safely ignore their opinion.
  9. The Constitution forbids creating any titles of nobility.
  10. Worth noting that Everett was playing in an environment much more favorable to hitters. His highest wRC+ in a season was 81, 65 for his career. Peña is right at 100 for both seasons.
  11. A day here, a day there. It adds up.
  12. This is not only not a big subject, it’s absurd that it’s still even brought up.
  13. Brown built an early season roster specifically constructed to get Diaz playing time at DH/1B/even LF. It’s the whole reason Salazar was on the team, to give Diaz more positional flexibility. Instead, he got 68 PA in the first 2 months of the season, fewer starts at DH than Julks (who had more than twice as many appearances), and exactly 1 start anywhere other than C/DH. Thats all on Dusty for improperly utilizing the roster he was given.
  14. Let’s get even more specific. Player A is in the conversation for best hitting catcher in baseball. Player B is in the conversation for the worst-hitting everyday player in 150 years of professional baseball. And I know what you might be wondering, but A is better defensively too. Who’s your starter?
  15. There is no realistic upgrade here.
  16. There’s little to no evidence that lineup protection is actually a thing.
  17. They won’t trade Javier after just signing him to an extension. I’m not sure Urquidy brings much back. Trading Valdez is an interesting thought.
  18. Peña is basically a league average hitter who plays above average defense. If that’s the worst player in your lineup, you’re doing fine. He does need to regain his power, though.
  19. They need to sign another bat to replace Brantley, but otherwise the biggest upgrade is just letting Diaz catch 100+ games. Your lineup is then pretty well set.
  20. Tucker is under team control for a few more years. Maldonado will be a free agent, so no need to waive him. He will be easily affordable in money. But I don’t think the team can “afford” to keep him and have starters ask for him as their catcher, stunting Diaz’s growth and handicapping the lineup. Backup catchers are plentiful, just sign anyone else.
  21. Joe Maddon is just Dusty with an abrasive personality. Hard pass.
  22. I’d settle for not actively making the team worse.
