Yes, while both the NIH and CDC have more 'stand-alone' agency than most, they both technically fall under the Dept of HHS. And everyone at each reports directly to the Cabinet Secretary. Same with FDA. Most of the rest of the entities at HHS are more wrapped in under the Secretary's purview---political, financial, social programs, legislative affairs, comms., etc. For the most part, for the last 70 years---the HHS and subsequent secretaries have left NIL/CDC/FDA autonomous. Other than a quarterly briefing on topics that may make the Sec. or Pres. look good or bad. And then all huddle together with the Legislative Affairs team for their annual budget ask. Should Trump win, that historical norm will come to an end. Top leadership at all 3 will be reined in...and gutted.

Trump missed a grifting opportunity there. Put a MAGA logo on that ear bandage and sell them for $20. 25mm Americans would buy them by the end of week. Most would buy one for each ear since they don’t listen well anyway. -
Well that is where Cha-Chi/Scott Baio lives, so…

^ This. Whenever I used them in the morning, everything has had a deep cleaning. If I stick around late, order up some food, I go in the restroom and it looks like a Matamoros dive bar at the end of Spring Break. The downtown one is starting to show its age. The cleanest one (and IMO, the coolest other than the downtown rooftop playground) is the one Barton Springs Road. Awhile back, I'm leaving a meeting at Firmspace (a more private, professional cowork space). And it's not until I get down to the lobby nature calls. And that hotel across the street wasn't yet open. So I crossed that bridge to the Central Library. Meh, how bad could it to be...they certainly spent enough money on it. While crossing the bridge, a homeless encampment is under it. And I see a guy taking a shit into the creek while a school field trip is on the patio above. Then I go into the library to a higher floor to use the shitter. Looked like an illegal colonoscopy clinic. I don't know how, but I waddled over to some restaurant in Seaholm. And it was glorious. /csb

Event Producer, "President Trump. For camera angles, we'll do four big seats here and then some farther because of the framing. As requested, here in the middle is you, next to you is your running mate. And last seat there your party's Speaker of the House. Who would you like the seat, next to you? The First Lady is custom. Perhaps one of the children?" Trump, "Wrong. Tucker Carlson." E.P., (laughs), "Funny, sir. But would from the First Family should be here. We could even have Lara Trump as the head of the RNC if you like." Trump, "Seriously Tucker. And make sure he doesn't look better groomed than me."

^ Good callback. That's a very underrated episode IMO, as multiple Season 2 episodes are wont to do. Start at the two minute mark. It's one of Elaine's best physical comedy scenes of the whole series. Then when she gets to Jerry's.....she delivers a dramatically dry, almost unhinged monologue without cracking.

Is this that same lunatic that gave the State of the Union rebuttal? She has good stage presence until she opens her mouth. Scott doing well for a guy who called off his promotion, and engagement, and re-election bid for Senate in the last few hours.

I believe that straight ticket voting exists in only 6 states anymore. There is strong correlation that voting straight ticket makes one noticeably less likely to vote on ballot questions/amendments/etc. pertinent to their state. As you'd expect 5 of the 6 are southern red states. Michigan being the only head-scratcher. But I think a lot or people spread their ballot around to different parties, all the time. I'm sure there's been research into how much and which cycle their district is undergoing (Senate race, important statewide positions, etc.). But it's a big country, there's probably a few thousand, maybe tens of thousands, of voters who for some weird reason, vote Trump and then 'D' for the rest, but it would come out to 0.001%. Anyway, a lot of us split our ballots. Particularly when no 'D' is running against an 'R' for some local position, like voting 'L' to at least make them still relevant when the GOP burns itself to the around over MAGA, which is almost complete. A note on Vance-he wrote most of that book long before Trump ever came down the escalator. Being a complete unknown, it had to through heavy editing and publisher contemplation. Although, it's mostly a memoir---the guy wisely started to see what Trump saw a year before. Then sculpted a good narrative around it, while Trump mostly spends the following 18 months on the campaign---just shouting the same 4 slogans over and over again with some gibberish peppered throughout, jerking off ghost dicks. Vance is only 39, we're gonna be stuck with him for awhile . -
"I guess I just blew myself." /tobias I rise now to inquire with local law enforcement, "I already know the answer...but did any of your dozens of personnel happen to have their bodycams turned on? We could aggregate the images, maybe figure out how he got past y'all and up the ladder?" Local law enforcement, "Well, you see. What happened was. We left the body cameras at the staging area so we couldn't get to them in time." Me, "Dude, I'm looking right at the fucking map...he walked past your staging area." Local law enforcement, "Well, okay but they were close by. But they were undergoing software updates. Those little red reminder things bug the crap out of our Captain."

The "it was all staged" thing is insane on both sides. If you wanted this done, you don't grab some 20yo with no history of professional instruction (they've asked every gun range within a 100 miles of the area), no law enforcement or military training. Who just got the rifle a few months prior and probably just used it out in a field somewhere in rural Western PA. Yeah, he fits the profile---but his shooting skills would be a glaring issue. Still, it was a difficult shot without a scope, etc. to me the impressive skills the kid had was sliding through layers of LEOs, looking like he was supposed to be there or just remaining out of sight. That's not easy to do at 20yo and keep your cool with a fucking rifle bag. And discretely moving that ladder and scaling it with nobody the wiser. Then staring down a cop right behind him. Then calming himself down to begin firing. Only reason it sounds like he was spotted (other than USSS sniper teams), was because the kid didn't realize some people at the back of the crowd had line of sight on despite him being well tucked-down.

But you still Made it across the lot to Sugar’s, right?

Let me learn ya' something, Mr. Engrish. First of all, I done come back already and it looks like we're all outta Spanish. Is there seriously some X-posts counter for how many more posts has made about Trump in the last 24 hours than he's made about Houston/Beryl/CenterPoint? Seems about 3:1

Doing dumb shit for Ryder. "There's a situation at the Trump Rally, get there on the Double!" Ryder, "Chase-go sniff metal things to see if they're a ladder. Zuma, go underwater in a place with no lakes!. Rubble, go build something useless! Skye, you could do aerial surveillance of the area in your helicopter, or just fly into a tornado! Rocky, go recycle those shell casings! Marshall, after Trump is done posing for photographs, make sure he gets immediate medical attention!" Well, you get the idea. I hate those fuckers My oldest got so into them, we still have boxes and boxes of their vehicles and different versions of the pups and it's baby-ish for her now. But she won't let us donate them out of nostalgia. So I'm going to send them to North Korea to be eaten. This guy had to have posted some shit online of some value that was saved on a message board of social media screen-shot, but it's being scrubbed as we speak. Nobody wants to leak it either because it makes it look like GOP-on-GOP civil war, and they don't want to be threatened or harmed.

You're right, the pattern is usually leave something behind that you kinda want to be found afterwards. But whatever there is, likely some kinda digital footprint since the guy had nothing else going on his life, we won't see it. Not in the near future anyways. Mass shooter stuff gets released pretty quick these days. But I would think, this close to an election with so many appearances pending for both candidates---we won't see shit. For the simple reason they don't want anybody reading it/hearing it and think, "Hey, that's how I feel about it too!" And they run to check the campaign stops for one candidate or the other. Plus if there are red flags, and certainly would be, it makes the FBI and USSS look real bad at a time neither is a media darling. Never mind the NRA getting publicly pantsed. I'm all for a bigger technology budget for the USSS for any major party candidate or incumbent. Shit like this compromises our posture abroad, so it's worth every penny. What technology won't solve for is their brilliant idea of, "He's been shot in the ear! Let's hold him up and then get out of the way of his head and vital organs for a few seconds, then dick around looking for his shoes before we take evasive action. There's not an app or scope for that kind of stupidity.

Yeah, aside from hilarious material about the minutiae of life you never give much thought. And also putting aside he's had 45 years to hone his craft. Seeing him live is obviously gut-busting funny, but he has this professional economy of words and timing, but doesn't seem rehearsed either-if that makes sense. The flow of the bits don't actually really make that much sense in the transition sense, but they way he weaves them---it just streams wonderfully. And he clearly doesn't need the money and loves to be with this family in relative privacy, but you can genuinely see and almost feel how much he loves doing this. Most comics do, but Jerry has this subtle beam of light that comes out of him, dry as he is, when he's on stage doing what he always had in his bones. Who opened for him outta curiosity?

Was that a Mackovic or Mack recruit, I can't remember. I know he ended up in the show finally in around 30 and bounced around a half-dozen clubs doing very little. What position was he gonna play at UT?

Bad News-any official campaign event by either party, there will be a 7-day holding period on the sale of ladders within a 50-mile radius. Good news-any official campaign event by either party, there will be a sale on rifles within a 50-mile radius. Maybe the rally had too many doors? This fucking simulation. I'm picturing the Secret Service interview with the local officer who confronted the shooter. "So you saw the suspect in that prone position with his weapon aimed at the podium. He turned around and took aim at you and you climbed down the ladder? Why?" -Well, I have to make it home safely to my family. "Did you at least knock the ladder down/haul it away afterwards to make it more difficult for the shooter to flee the scene?" -Wait, that's a thing?

It's still going on, bro! We did this once at the outset of Formula 1, but before kids. It was a pain in the ass to get everything locked up/moved/prepped. Our house is quite close to downtown and Zilker (for ACL), so it fetched a handsome price. But with kids, and unless you have a regular turn-key system, it's not worth it. I did secretly look to see what we could get for this UGA/USGP weekend and it was extremely tempting, but I know the wife and kids would hate the idea. One of our neighbors custom built like a cabana-house/casita. Of course he didn't ask for anybody'e permission, even on the building permit, let alone the STR notification because he's a fucking asshole. But he did disclose, "We won't be renting it out during the school year while the kids are home...just during the June and July while the family is at camp/vacationing. I thought, "Da Fuh?" You just built that out at $200/ft. never mind the property tax increase which is insane in our neck of the woods because you think people will think, "Hey, it's 109* in Austin this July, the one month they have absolutely nothing fun happening or worth visiting for. Let's jump on this $2,000/night VRBO for some reason." They'll enjoy the casita with visiting family 'n shit during the rest of the year. But his whole idea was to pay for the construction with STR money in months nobody is gonna wanna rent it. I didn't ask any questions, again because he's a fucking asshole. But to make small talk, I asked, "Well as long as they keep the music down, cool with me. Welcome to the area. Say, what do you do for a living?" And he answered "homebuilder." The one line of work that should know this is not a financially feasible idea, but this fucking simulation. Anyway, I would venture to guess based on the preliminary estimate I got for that weekend, anything between Mopac/Lake Austin, Barton Springs, IH-35, and 27th street is gonna fetch at least $1/ftSQ each night. I mean, people that come in for F1 don't wanna actually stay all the fucking way out there. A colleague, who is a big a Georgia fan as I know, rang me up to ask about why he couldn't find any reasonable hotel rates or STR rates for that weekend. He had no idea about USGP taking place. And this dude has the means to spend a lot, but people coming just don't get it. This is like SxSW and ACL Music Festival taking place on the same day. Landlord's market for sure. Some people are gonna recoup their higher interest rate mortgage payments real fast.

I keep reading that part of the podium exchange transcript in Sol Rosenberg's voice. "Fantastic then. I'll bring my shoes and my ear with me. So that I have them."

Is that a fucking dog at the :37 mark? Who brings a dog to a football match break-in? I gotta lot judgmental flaws, but unless there's abuse of some sort...I don't give fuck one about how other people raise their kids. But if I'm watching a near riot take place in front of me, I guess maybe I don't pick up my 2/3yo and run in with the rioters...I probably hang back and find a nice sports bar.

Somebody else posted something to this effect that was apparently grabbed by some hacker or some shit from his social media. But who knows what's real and what's faked? All I know is, I find it interesting the most adamant anti-abortion males are the guys that have zero chance of ever getting a woman pregnant save for date rape.
