  1. what you're saying is just Madness.
  2. To the other what? He was pretty funny though. I never knew if the story of him driving a CapMetro campus bus was true or just a schtick. The moderators on HF were incredibly binary. Half of 'em were relaxed, funny and posted great takes. The other half were annoying and couldn't wait to run to Katy to report/suspend/ban you so they'd get a lollipop.
  3. I was merely pointing out that there have been very narrow popular vote victories by Democrats in the last century+, but that vote margin was far different than the differential in the Electoral College. The tacit point is a 1% margin in the PV versus a 30% difference in the EC vote margin illuminates a lot more than just "the EC is dumb because Hillary didn't win!" The system needs to be addressed yes, perhaps the Maine/Nebraska model. Who knows? We only know what it would take to amend it in terms of Congressional votes and State Legislatures. And that is simply not happening in the next 8 years. I don't make the rules. Like the Ned Beatty speech in "Network" or the premise of a borderless world in "Rollerball." The EC, and it's amendable flexibility, was put into place to onboard new states and give them agency. That's all. It wasn't rigged 250 years ago to keep evil Republicans into the Oval. But once we shed the concept of a state, and accept the dynamic of urban/college-suburban v. rural/non college-suburban...then some real change on elections can occur. I don't know if some of you have noticed, but the 2025/hard right plan is to do just that---shed the concept of a state having value and agency. All of it falling it under a Dictatorial Swamp Bag of Shit. Why not try a page of their playbook?
  4. the Electoral College certainly helped Carter handily defeat Ford despite only getting about 1.5mm more popular votes. Kennedy beat Nixon by almost 100 EC votes, despite winning the popular vote by about 100k. Truman used the EC by over 100 votes despite beating Dewey in the popular by less than 2mm votes. EC worked out well for Wilson over Hughes despite only winning the popular by 500k. Democrat Cleveland wins the EC handily despite just a 300k popular vote margin. Cleveland also runs away with the EC in 1884 despite winning the popular by just 20,000 votes. the EC has benefited the Democratic Party more often than most people realize. Yes, it's a bigger issue now, but it has helped your party many times over history. They knew there'd be states leaning one way or the other on a reliable basis. They, perhaps naively, built the mechanism to make any newly on-boarded states feel validated. We were agrarian and merchant based at the time. But even until Carter/Ford, the system more or less worked. They knew there'd be more states, different parties, and left open a system to amend it all after Article VII. To your point now though is...what they didn't anticipate nor could they have. It's what's wrong now with the EC/PV setup. They didn't realize the concept of so many people living in cities and suburbs. Their prize mistake-a lack of imagination. It's helped both parties over the years, other parties as well (Whigs, I'm looking at you). We are just organized and spread out differently now. There are truly red states thru and thru like Wyoming and North Dakota. There are truly blue states thru and thru like Oregon and Rhode Island. Most of us live, even if our neighbors don't know it...in an America without demarcation of borders...rather Urban/Suburban-College versus Rural/Suburban-Non College. When we accept that along with demographic shifts (aging and color), and adjust accordingly...everything changes for a century. But we don't get to 2032 until we figure this shit out first. All else is commentary.
  5. Does the "good authority" have a weird chin beard and in the room with you now?
  6. You say "drip" a lot for somebody who watches the last water droplets secrete from a person's mouth as they sink to the bottom of Town Lake But I get your point, it's valid. There is absolutely a moderate/middle America. But it doesn't grab headlines, it's not sexy, and you can't raise money from it. So nobody gives a shit. But yes, we need to retire the term "undecideds." They're not Undecided, they just don't vote. That's a difference of tremendous significance. Over 100 million Americans 18+ didn't vote in 2020. They weren't "undecided", they were just not participating. This fucking delusion that 100mm people still have votes there for the taking is fucking moronic, naive, and insulting to the rest of us---even those that vote for Trump. You can be a moderate, and spread your votes around both major parties, even some third parties. I have no fucking idea how to vote in NHL All-Star game. Doesn't make me "Undecided", it makes me a non-participant. I can be moderate on it, "Well I grew up a Blackhawks fan, but this Red Wings defenseman deserves to get into the game." Yes, there are 9 people that will decide on Election Day morning, after actually stewing over it before bed, whom to vote for that day in Pittsburgh and Green Bay. But there are literally 100mm eligible voters in this country that are not "undecided", they are in fact "decided." They've decided to stay home, they always have and they always will. The trick Trump pulled was pulling off 20mm of 'em 8 years ago to validate them. Otherwise, they're a a lost cause. Yeah, let's trot Joe out there and spend $50mm in ad buys to convince 75mm adults who've never once voted in their life that his infrastructure bill was a great idea. they're decidedly disengaged because it's easier. Say you want about MAGA dipshit nation, they know how to fill out a fucking voter registration card. Meanwhile we got between 75-100mm American adults who look at the shitshow around us and think, "Well, I probably should pay more attention but I have a Wal-Mart curbside order to pickup that day."
  7. Yes, but what if they get pulled away at the last minute to Los Pollos Hermanos-Kharkiv? Heard a great interview today with the British Member of the NATO Military Council while driving today. I gotta find it. Made me feel a bit better, maybe it was sunshine pumping for UDF...but very thorough. I don't know how to post XMradio clips though.
  8. I don't think any one 3rd party candidate can skew anything. And while usually the biggest disruptor is the Libertarian candidate in some states (Perot and Nader notwithstanding) for the last half-century, you aggregate Stein, West, and RFK JR. None of them alone are gonna change any state. But as a whole, their three sets of electorates could fuck one just one state for Biden. the DNC shouldn't focus on it with resources, but it could fuck up a Nevada or a Wisconsin if some scenarios---again the three of them as a whole. I dunno, y'all know your party way better than I do. I'm down for whoever can humiliate and beat Trump. If that's Biden, Harris, or Frank Stallone. I did some heavy lifting for Biden in 2020 to get rid of the tumor. But now maybe the Chemo has made it all worse. I have faith in supporters of what is the right thing for America. But the stupids are all starting to come out of hiding again like in 2016 and it's got me worried sick. I'd have felt a lot better had this sorting-out not happened in fucking late July, but rather earlier in the year. But this fucking simulation. Of course, we're all gonna spend Labor Day weekend shooting up heroin to cope.
  9. Not listed on the 4-person list. Couldn't roll up on the convention even if he was invited. And having Dan Patrick step on what's left of his dick in the wake of Beryl. Wow, great week, Greg. Lemme guess...you couldn't make the convention anyway because you totally enacted all these draconian laws in Texas because you totally turned down VP to date a hotter Presidential candidate from South Korea who you totally sexy-timed with and don't even need ADA access because you're so fucking bold? Jesus dude, I thought Biden was having a shitty week.
  10. Does Jason Wells work for Centerpoint or does he just sell them generators? And is he really not locatable right now in this hour of need? I can't read X threads so I don't know sarcasm from news which is why I don't act on X threads to begin with.
  11. "We'll see what happens"??? I think that's verbatim what every Bill Cosby said to every woman dozing off after she asked, "So Mr. Cosby, you think I have what it takes to make it in showbusiness?"
  12. Wasn't he the one who started the "R.C. on a Mobile" satire thread about A&M like 20+ years ago? Yeah, I definitely remember getting multiple warnings from him about something or other. Seemed nice enough though, at least online. The maths are just tough now these days. We got lots of recent grads on here and old timers, but the bulk of us. We grew up on the Apple II, got online in high school or college, globbed onto message boards in the late 90's, flash forward 25-30 years........yeah 90% of this place is aged 40-70. Obviously Longhorn message boards will carry on. We aren't special, but many of us were there at the beginning of this shit from 360 to HF to LFZ to today. Sad to say, we're gonna start losing more and more posters. Other graduates will grab on with their fancy shoes and complicated lyrics, we weren't special but we were different. There's some deceased posters I've know for 20 years from online and tailgates that I miss more than some family members. These message boards will get more sophisticated and opinionated and divisive and inclusive. But they'll never be the pack of degenerates we've been from the start.
  13. It's hard to have people killed who get shuffled around the country by an established institution with community trust, assets with which to bribe, fungible identities, and legal protection from up on high. Your stance isn't that bold. It's naive. Yes, there is a child molester out there, who also happens to sing songs in a dress who for other reasons sexually assaulted a kid and he got hurt for it---and rightfully so. But take it from me, it is much harder to get to a priest or Baptist minister who gets moved around and has friends in places above my pay-grade. You have no idea the infrastructure these institutions have in place to hide this shit to this day. It's not that clever, but that have to head-starts. Money. And Time. You catch onto this Gay Author Grooming library underground book scheme guised as a book tour to keep them on the move so we can't get to them, you lemme know. Or are they in the room with you now underneath a pizzeria?
  14. I like to stop at the Duty Free Shop I like to stop at the Duty Free Shop I pride myself, like most of you, for even in my teens and twenties when I got hooked on the show---for getting almost all the references. But I didn't for so many years what the hell George meant when he was on the plane with the crazy prisoner, "But y'are Blanche. Y'are in those shackles." Spoiler alert-don't watch the source movie with your children.
  15. I mean is it $200 per ticket or $400 ticket? And I'm like, just pick a price and go with it!
  16. By 'the race', do you mean 'the human race'?
  17. Makes sense, but I thought the opposite color from Red was Violet, with Blue being towards the middle?
  18. People that don't know how to use CDT & CST in the proper format. Quit sending me call/meeting invites with CST in fucking July. If you're unsure, just write CT. Yes, I realize it gets more challenging when doing calls with other countries who may or may not observe seasonal time changes. But if you're in Dallas, don't be typing CDT in February. Speaking of months. If you're over 18.....just know how many days each one has. I watched a guy at coffee this morning, probably 45, have to do the little hand thing with the song because I asked him if we could speak next on July 31st. And he fucked it up, too. "There's no July 31st, we could do the 30th." Every Pre-K child knows about Leap Year. Learn the damn four that have 30, all the rest have 31. Isn't that fucking hard. Yeah, you can look at your phone, but wouldn't you rather just be an adult?
  19. Well, at least we're gonna gut the NOAA and NWS next year so we won't have to worry about all this advanced prep hurricane bullshit.
  20. I mean what’s the deal with these casino names like ‘WinStar’? The players don’t win, the ticket buyers don’t win. Shouldn’t they call it ‘LoseStar’? You can see Kenny Bania in the bingo lounge for a nickel.
  21. San Francisco Nudist-Pirate, in the Castro, attempts to 'Blowtorch' a Brazilian tourist? That's what we're going with in the simulation today? Here in Austin, we just have these lame machete-wielding homeless who are fully-clothed. Dammit, this town used to be edgy!
  22. "Spiritual Maturity" in lawyers? Who the fuck wordsmith'd that? All the best attorneys I know at least have the decency to admit they are flawed people but will kick ass for your Section 13 filing. Online, Christian-based law school to nurture Spiritual Maturity? Is this like opposite timeline of 'Better Call Saul'? And Ms. French decided the best way to demonstrate this "Christian Perspective to the Law" was to work for a philandering, money-laundering, walking ethics violation? I mean at least his impeachment defense team had the transparency to sound and look like total douchebags. But you Ms. French? I'm curious which course at Regent University inspired you to apply such 'Christian Legal Thought' to such a piece of shit? Oh, because he makes abortions harder to get? Spoiler alert, Ms. French.
  23. You bought some expensive seats to see a great comedian in Oklahoma. We're all very proud of you for starting this thread to begin with as you could have just gone to the show and given us a review. You brought up how much you paid for it, not us. If you're gonna gamble while you're there, you could have just asked a host to run your rate, and then either way---gotten two free tickets while still enjoying the thrill of the gaming. But you don't strike me as somebody good at maths.
