  1. No 'Sorry for Partying' or 'What's his Surly handle?' Dammit, this thread used to have sarcastic integrity! I've seen a few homeless dudes jerking off as I was just peacefully making my way through downtown or South Austin streets. But at a retail store where families shop? I mean, sure we have maniacal, machete wielding crazies running around Town Lake...but at least they keep their dick in their pants.
  2. Yeah, as dads...we're always hearing "Seems like there's something going around out there when it's just two gals gossiping in the driveway. But when two prominent Austin pediatricians we take real serious tell us they're having to postpone before-school year well checks because of the volume of Bacterial Pneumonia cases they're having to prioritize and it seems worse than Covid for munchkins...I take note. She's doing a bit better today, got started on some new anti-biotic yesterday. There's always gonna be bacterial exchanges between kids, they have to toughen up immune system and all that. But it's just especially tough watching your little one coughing up a lung while playing outside, sweating profusely due to the heat. We may have to cancel our last trip of the summer, which I don't mind---but the kids are really looking forward to it. Shit happens, plans change, I get it. Just always tough as the Dad who have to make the awkward family announcement without making the sick one feel bad about something she had no control over. Plus she can't do any of her inside camps for the last week and probably another two weeks. Anyway, hard to believe but our back-to school/roundup/meet the teacher night is just 4 weeks from Monday. Tell that to your kids if you wanna depress them. God willing, we'll all be well by then. Pro tip-if you want something outside to do in the morning with the little ones before it gets hot out and you can't get into the pool because they don't need any more shit in their lungs---this weekend is the Faerie Garden at Zilker Botanical Gardens. It's actually really cool for girls and boys under 12. Any dads have recs on fun shit to do outside for the next two weeks around Austin that doesn't involve liquids, take all my rep. She's old enough now to realize she's kinda "missing out" on her first big kid summer and it makes me bummed out. /rant
  3. Seriously with this shit, why the fuck are all these guys shaped like thumbs? 10 victims, all under 13. He fled North Carolina to Michigan after sexually molesting several young kids in the Tar Heel State. Did the Baptist Church in MI do any kind of vetting of him before leading the youth ministry? Nah, ain't nobody got time for that.
  4. I've never been a "get up into people's business" kinda person IRL, despite my persona on here. When I started drinking heavier about the age of the guy you just described, most folks I encountered---I was numb to their predicament. I could see it, but it sadly, more of a "hey, another person to get fucked up with!" I still don't like asking, but the last two years trying to stay sober, man---you can spot another alcoholic from afar like a fisherman sees another fisherman down the stream. I am no position to offer them any help at this point in my life though my wife will sometimes ask about some of the guys she knows are trying to stay sober. I don't tell her about them, she knows them from our regular life---about a half dozen guys to varying degrees of recovery. And I've talked to some members of my family about it, but it always gets weird. And she asks me about the guys in my group. I don't say names obviously, but tell her kinda backstories and what we have in common and then in other ways, we're all very different in how we drank and tried to stop. But to your point, once you get a little more lucid, you realize so many people around you are suffering from this. I even told her, without being specific, that she's got at least a half-dozen alcoholics in her extended family. They just don't know it yet. But yeah, I wish somebody like you would have said something to me 10 years ago, and offered to help and gave me a hug and I couldn't have started course-correcting sooner. a couple times, friends said they had quit and that I should give it a try, but it was more of a show-off for their wives at dinner parties. I think people knew I was in pain, but were unsure of how to approach me. It's a damn delicate balance because you can also get somebody pretty fucking angry with an inquiry like this. Other than my wife offering to help me regularly...it wasn't until I got really serious about sobriety...that I realized you gotta reach out a little bit to get support, but when you do---a whole other world opens up. If I could invent like a poker game where you have to pickup on the tells of true alcoholics. Not who is drunk or sober or casually drinking responsibly in the moment, but who across the table from me is a serious alcoholic---I'd be like Matt Damon in "Rounders"...I could clock it all day long and win big. But then I suppose, there's been plenty of times when somebody clocked me just out 'n about. And around and around we go...
  5. "Where the fuck is my generator truck?" -Uh, a couple of Lineman took it to get it washed sir? "Took it to get it washed?"
  6. Frank once to me to an empty parking lot and told me to wait for a drink. Sure enough, we stayed there for 18 months. They constructed a bar around us. We had one shot, Frank walked out and burned the thing to the damn ground. Told me, "Always leave things better than you found them!" To Frank Erwin!
  7. Why was there only one set of carabiners holes in the rock, dear Frank. Why did you forsake me in my time of need? Frank, “My son, that is when I belayed you down the rock as one. And we went to go kick Trump’s ass. But first, I’d like to stay here in the Valley and crook a few of my tunes from “Staying Alive.”
  8. I'm not saying I went to a very prestigious law school, it was 'average.' And not everybody in the state government can pay their Yale Law student loans on that salary. But Lesley French went to an online Christian law school-Regent University-which was her safety school because her reach school, American Samoan School of Law denied her application. And Michelle barely finished community college before getting noticed by the Paxton team on her work with 'Concerned Women for America. So yeah no, these two dipshits aren't clever enough to fool the FBI.
  9. Trump remembered five simple words for about 10 minutes one time. To really show up Biden, go one more. Tell us the names of your Six grandchildren. Any order you like, don't have to know their ages (I forget my two girls' all the time, and I'm 30 years younger). Doesn't even have to be CNN. Hannity could ask, "Biden is obviously senile. To demonstrate your mental fitness to the American voters, tell us the names of your grandkids in any order you like." -Well Sean, to me that's very personal. I don't want to get into that right now. But I love them all the same equally, just like the bible testaments and the other testimonies of which I am about to give so help me Lord guy,
  10. I have to ask this question every few months on this thread to inquiring minds like yours. Yes, at some point---statistically speaking there has been a drag queen or gay person who also happened to molest children. There have been Presidents, Generals, Accountants, Spear Hunters, Oracles, and Used Car Salesman who have molested children. It's just what happens when there's been 100 billion people on our planet. Even if you don't acknowledge the disturbing frequency with which this occurs within the cloth far more than any other vocation or hobby, at least ask yourself this question---is there a organizational structure (or union) that moves Drag Queens and Gays around the country, wipes their record, and let's them back into pools of targets? If there's a network of Gay child predators being shifted around the country under the auspices and legal protection of "Gay Temple", and then when they're gone...the Gay Temple leadership bribes the families to keep quiet............wouldn't you think that may have been revealed by now? If Drag Queens were raping kids, and then being moved to a different Brunch circuit........wouldn't that probably make the news in the Epoch Times or OAN? Of course, a gay person has been inappropriate with a kid. Of course, a drag performer also got weird with their nephew. What makes these people so terrifying is they get institutional protection to strike again. And again. And again. Do you honestly not see the difference?
  11. as insane as that sounds, that's where we're at as a nation. I am saying this with no typical Lobo sarcasm, I'd genuinely like to hear what she has to say on the matter. good news is she's empowering to young women and I love that my daughters love a great person like her. Bad news, there's only been election in U.S. history where young women under 30 tilted a Presidential race. This won't be the second one
  12. Good question, did anybody in our State leadership actually declare a State of Emergency for at a portion of the affected areas? Abbott in South Korea, "Sorry, I'm between fax machines right now. Maybe when I get back." -But sir, you're literally in the country that invented e-signature technology. "What's that? You're breaking up, can't hear you. Call you when we land."
  13. Why in the fuck do you keep giving the simulation ideas like this? And the face on Half Dome? You guessed it. Frank Stallone. Or Eric Trump. The algorithm is workshopping it.
  14. Yeah, I spoke with Mike this morning (basically our Logistics COO). He said he spoke with PPL and Old Dominion, and they (particularly OD) run LTL (less-than-truck-loads) through IH-10 all the time anyway. Just somebody from the state or Centerpoint say, "Here's some shit over here that we gotta get way over there." Obviously you need some folks on their end that know to load it/secure it properly. But it's just hundreds, if not thousands, of trucks that could be moving shit around the affected area if there was some sort of coordinated, logistical leadership. I mean, I know there's a lot going on, but these drivers can do this shit with one hand tied behind their back if somebody could give 'em some direction. Generators, food, bottled water, reinforcing materials for structures that were knocked by wins/falling trees. This isn't like a tornado that came up outta the blue, or not like SE Texas hasn't had this happen dozens of times already. It's Mike's call, but I suggested that if we don't hear anything by end of business tomorrow, just fucking leave it be. We tried. It's impossible this state is this fucking stupid, but lasted so long.
  15. That thing is an absolute shit-hole inside. It's delay tactics by Aggies and other cranky ex-Big XII partners on that commission to delay our athletics complex expansion. Hicks, for whom the School is named, can exert the necessary influence to get this done, but this probably will delay it-yes. But I'm willing to keep it if they let us tear down about a dozen eyesores on campus. Athletics and the Tower want to get all this shit at least to groundbreaking phase to have it come in under the current Capital Campaign goal. As per usual, stalling seems to be all moronic politicians are concerned with.
  16. I think up cruel scenarios for a living. Some of you have to endure my pontificating to that effect. And yeah, we've all dealt with some aggressive panhandlers and maybe even to call something in. But to just purposely drive around doing this to get them arrested for passing fake bills? I mean there's insane cruelty, but like---this board of degenerates couldn't think that sick sociopathic idea up if you gave us all absinthe and 90 days. I mean, there is certainly worse suffering being visited upon marginalized communities by Trump folks, but like he had to drop a lot of acid and google some pretty weird shit for days on end to come up with this. I don't know where to start. So I'll begin with his ending. Never go with an insane January 6th MAGA Shaman on hallucinogens to a second location. Specifically, a desert. Do people just not know how to party anymore? the look on Mike Davis' face when he says "It's gonna be glorious." That wasn't political pandering. He was genuinely getting an erection.
  17. How the fuck in this day and age, do you lose a 75' generator, let alone multiple units? They don't have proprietary tracking devices? They can't use aerial recon, those things are pretty fucking obvious looking even by a drone. I mean, we've got dock workers "pick something up that fell off the back of a trailer", but not the whole fucking trailer. Lobo's Eleven. We're most middle aged guys with health problems and couldn't charm our way out of a wet paper bag. But we are willing to help. Also, there was talk of a buffet?
  18. Over El Capitan? -Nah, I don’t think I’ll ever get over El Capitan. Those wounds run…pretty deep.
  19. Cracking wise about the secret service, in a city where the President is coming to in a few days, on a website that was just infiltrated by hackers. I'd say your serial killing on Town Lake is probably now the least of your worries. I'm starting to buy a little bit into this theory that perhaps Trump wins, gets all his revenge and pardons over a few months, and then resigns. In this fucking timeline, wouldn't surprise me.
  20. Almost two years since I rejoined the board because of this thread and my slow crawl back to sobriety. Doc says my shit's making some progress, but not as much as we'd like to see. I just fall into these cycles, where I just focus on meetings, or just focus on talking to sponsors, or just eat cleaner, or just move around more, or just hydrate more. But like many of you have said, it's for those that truly want it. I know there's always a relapse lurking around the corner. still weird how I can have incredibly optimistic, lucid days. And then the next day, I live the same routine, but I get cranky and in a brain fog. All that to say, this particular thread and some IRL friends, helped me take those first initiatives to sober up. This place has really helped and I honestly hope to meet some of you in person one day. Thanks folks.
  21. are you just repeating these posts because you like to type "Pert Nipples"?
  22. Didn't know this was even being released, but made me think of Nicole's penchant for true crime podcasts. https://www.texasmonthly.com/podcasts/series/the-problem-with-erik/ I know we crack wise about APD ineptitude on here and how they can't handle a call on a stolen car for a week. But from the Servant Girl Annihilator to Charles Whitman, the guy that flew the plane into the IRS building, the dude that ran over all those people on Red River, the guy that shot up all the government buildings at night, the bomber, Mr. Maund, the Rainey Street killings, synagogue arson, Yogurt Shop murders. We've had some pretty fucked up shit happen in this town which wasn't very big that long ago. Heir to one of the biggest car dealership empires in Texas hired Charlie Sheen's bodyguard to kill a Nashville hooker and her boyfriend. Coen Brothers couldn't make this shit up.
