    Euro 2024

Spain destroyed the French. Now it's on to the finals. Y'all know these international matchups better than I. Who would Espana matchup better against, England or Nederland?
  2. I'm not gonna type this correctly, but I do believe there is a line where you show/teach young people the facts of the errors of our ways as a country so they can not repeat the same atrocities. And then beyond that point, you're just berating them into either more hate or more self-loathing. There's a balance in there, and I think we've done a decent job over the last 80 years of maintaining that while providing a robust Civics education. BUT COME THE FUCK ON. You don't think those kids in OCK or Lawton are gonna wonder/google why it's called the fucking "Sooner State." Hide all the books, they're gonna find out how they got that state from Native American territories eventually. May as well teach it by professionals with context. I mean, yeah...there's a point where you should lay off the kid after the basic history lesson because you really should be telling it to the grandparents. But it's on the fucking license plate for chrissakes. 312. Area code for Chicago. Home of the DNC Convention and all that rampant gun violence and big blue city rampant crime. Coincidence? We now go live to Grant Park...
  3. Man, the new HEB buddy bucks program seems somewhat dangerous
  4. Isn’t that part of the premise? They arrived in the western hemisphere during daylight when most people had their dog whistles and shotguns in their other pants?
  5. Yeah, I feel like (along with the help of the Feds/ATF), that APD did a pretty good job with that bomber kid back in 2018. to this day, his pattern didn't make much sense and he didn't leave much of a digital trail to follow (until they went back in hindsight). Still took awhile, but thankfully just a few casualties over a couple months. This Rainey Street thing has been going on for years, maybe longer but the bodies floated/decomposed. Reminds me of this girl I grew up with, her father was the prosecutor of John Wayne Gacy in Chicago. He came and spoke to us on "career day" and I to this day do not know why in the fuck he brought crime scene photos to show a bunch of elementary school kids. But he nailed Gacy to the death penalty. But he brought up this point about investigations. Gacy drove around in a pretend police car (Oldsmobile sedan with flashing lights and fake badge and an antenna) for multiple years luring young boys into the car around Chicago and the NW suburbs. And other cops actually saw this happen on more than one occasion and just thought, "Yeah, that checks out." Gacy was even in the Des Plaines police station for questioning about one of the disappeared boys, shitfaced drunk, covered in dirt (from the burial)......and the cops were like "Well, he seems like a nice guy" and let him walk. I mean, I get there are crimes of passion that no police or Hannibal Lecter can anticipate. And there really are serial killers that are so smart and focused, that they can literally get away with it for decades until they just get bored or die of old age. Meanwhile, APD is buying tanks and riot gear instead of a few thousand bucks in lights and cameras down there and the City of Austin's solution is to have some EMT's drive around in a golf cart to give out dining recommendations? What in the fucking fuck?
  6. Yeah, someday our children will be talking about the series-winning walk-off home run in the play-in 3-game series to get into the WC play-in game to get into the quarter finals of the LDS before the play-in tournament bracket is settled after Thanksgiving. As much as I knew about how to play this game, and as I know now about the game its history. I still can't explain the Infield Fly rule and I still have no fucking idea how Hideki Matsui played 163 games for the Yankees in a season in which they went 101-61. But if you need to know about a guy who was legally intoxicated while pitching, got struck by lightning late in the game, and still completed the game after 5 minutes of being legally dead---I gotta game for you.
  7. Saw him a couple months ago and he was looking much more spry. A few times before that, you could tell the cancer treatments had taken a toll on him. Still at 68, he physically and mentally blows Biden and Trump and everyone else outta the water. But he made a pledge to his family not to run for politics so he could get into the grandbaby game. He's already done all he can do to serve this nation, and done it with honor. Having said that, I wish he'd get a little more vocal even if was a keyboard warrior Op-Ed in the WaPo or CNN or something. Other than his new book mini-tour, he hasn't spoken enough IMHO. Again, he's done his duty...but this would be a critical time for him to get mixed up in some verbal fisticuffs with all this bullshit.
  8. Nicole in Houston, "Here handsome. Take this anti-Cholera pill with this beer. It helps you stave off infection from dirty water on the Bayou." Handsome Man pops pill and starts to feel woozy, "Wait, why are you giving this to me as we're standing in the dirty water?" Splash.
  9. "Hey, those 50 mentions. That's just locker room talk. You know the locker room of your 8th grade daughter's swim team?" I have it from concrete authority that Donald Trump sexually molested his own daughter when was a teenager. What I don't get, and can't speak to, but maybe one of our resident counselors/psychologists can speak to is why she acts the way she does around Trump. I don't like her, but not at all my place to judge her coping mechanisms when it comes to being around Donald. I don't know if she remembers it, and just acts nice around him when the cameras are on (albeit very awkwardly) because her and Jared could fleece the campaign funds and White House contacts overseas. I don't know if she just blocked it out and doesn't want to un-hash those memories. Maybe she remembers it and walks on eggshells around him because of fear, regret, false guilt, currying favor, etc. Most people pride themselves on being able to "read people", when in fact we're all pretty bad at it. I've had moments of spectacularly accurate insights into folks in just a few seconds. Other times, horrible failures after years of encounters. In the end, we all wear different personas for different audiences. We can fool and be fooled on an hourly basis. Part of what makes us human. So I don't know what she acts that way around him, but it's definitely awkward. I went to support a friend in attendance. But this was about 10-15 years ago in that big classroom amphitheater between Flawn Academic Center and the Union. And this was around the time I was making some headway in life/career and thinking, like most people---that I could read a room or a person or situation as good as anyone. Well, the panel was a moderator, a woman who had been date-raped, and the guy who actually date-raped her. After he got out jail...somehow they agreed to tour the country (mainly college campuses). Discussing rape, date-rape, domestic violence, etc. And watching the two of them speak up there like a normal panel on a sensitive topic, I just thought, "You know what? Nobody knows shit about fuck." Something happened to Ivanka. And I hear, "Well Lobo, you can make false accusations about our Great Leader Trump but I can read people. And your arms are crossed which means you are blocking out new information you don't want to accept." Dude, I listened to a panel of a rapist and victim talk for 60 minutes about how sexual assault changes lives. And then they had to leave early to go to fucking Baylor University of all places---to discuss more rape. The guy molested his daughter, Epstein died on his watch, he's almost certain to have assaulted other minors, walks in on teen USA changing rooms, found liable for rape, bribes porn-stars, and asked my cousin's Manhattan driver many years ago to take one his side-pieces to an abortion clinic and wait there with her. And 35% of the adult population in this country wants me to pray for him? Americans read a newspaper, let alone other Americans. We are truly beyond the pale.
  10. Bill Powers used to make this joke about leading the legal team to develop what became known as “the Powers Report” after Enron imploded. So they wrote up the Executive Summary. And then had to write up a summary of that summary which was still like 8 pages. I think a Trump Executive summary of this Project 2025 will just be a post-it note that says “Trump is fantastic. Anyone who opposes him should be deported, jailed, or killed. America will be great again. We love you”
  11. That happened to me recently. We have about four different brands in the house with the kids and me. And you can make out precisely where in my legs the irritant bandages were. Middle aged skin issues were for women; I thought.
  12. It’s like watching the the testimony of the Sonderkommand survivors. Almost all Of them sold their souls to curry favor and aplomb from the SS. And after all they did to keep the machines of evil up and running, 95% of them met the same fate. You don’t send in an SS officer into the camp barracks to direct the concentration prisoners. With their numbers, they may rise up and kill the SS officer. You send in somebody who looks and speaks and prays like them. That helps keep them complacent. You don’t send the Proud Boys or Mike Johnson out into black communities to preach the gospel of Trump. You send Tim Scott and Byron Donalds. Anybody can walk in with bigoted language or a weapon. And they will just anger you and lose. The way to win is to have the same disposition but walk in with a smile and a promise of hope “Nobody has done more To lift up the black community than Donald Trump! Now if you’ll please follow me over here, we have one more detail to cover.”
  13. I mean, good luck to you Colin. And I hate Ted. But your big buy ad...you're wearing the same fucking shirt Cruz wore in that embarrassing fishing photograph? Is your media team purposely trying to make this silly? Ted's abandoned our state during another natural disaster when he could be helping marshal federal resources...and their idea was hey let's have you stand over the hood of a LEO truck at a map of a wall you're standing right fucking next to? What the fuck man? "Candidate Allred, we can walk you through the emergency response center at this time to give you a sense of how our ops team works." -No thank you, I'm gonna stay over here and build my own out of Legos.
  14. I guess the condescension should always just assumed? tl;dr---they've hit paydirt. Normally committee policy wonks and legislative affairs directors at leadership wanna steer the ship, all the while dealing with White House political affairs offices. Now a prominent think tank can just drop it off at the Oval and every single GOP Congress Member and Judge will go along with so as not to upset the Donald. If you've ever read those things, they aren't super over-academic but require some expenditure of brain calories. But this 2025 version was clearly written so a child-like Trump could absorb it and pass it off as his own and the Hill will go along with it and make like he invented language.
  15. Okay, this is a little condescending "inside baseball" having worked with both Brookings (centre-left) and AEI (centre-right). But Heritage, each Congressional session sends over a literal list of position stances and bills/votes suggestions (with admittedly some thorough research and analysis behind it) to every GOP member of both chambers of Congress. Even to some regulatory agencies and judges. The Democrats play this game, too. Most of the time, it's skimmed by a policy affairs staffer, a few things are taken as talking points by a Clerk or Chief of Staff, and passed off as their own. Been happening in this country for a century. Been happening in Texas for decades. What makes this one unique is Heritage realized a nexus was at play. Almost always, they have to write to the policy wonks as their audience. And then hope that maybe with some in-house mustard, that some of that their donors and thought leaders kinda, sorta makes it to actual committee, bill-writing, and maybe even the White House. They now have a Congress that will absolutely take whatever they pass along and give it to a President Trump with nobody having any reservation about it because the House/Senate members wouldn't defy Trump and Trump is too fucking stupid to even know what he's reading. Even Heritage couldn't come up with a dream scenario like this. Even if Trump has reservations about any of it, he'll just look around the room for adulation and the people that actually know the work of Heritage will simply say, "We're with you, Mister President." The lightning speed with which this shit can be implemented with nobody questioning it as was the old way, should scare the shit outta some of you. There used to be a process to this because most Presidents didn't want to appear as being manipulated by think tanks or the Hill. Trump thinks he's the one doing all the manipulating which makes him the perfect mark. The Confidence Man being the mark of Confidence Man. An enigma inside of a wrapped Big Mac riddle. I'd recommend some of you start changing your names. And we're torching this fucking website, sorry.
  16. It is dawn in Northern France. Operation Charnwood under the direction of General Montgomery has just begun. Along with aerial bombardment, Canadian and British units will have great success in taking the city and the path through Eastern France. Much of, unfortunately, will go sideways during the subsequent days. Arguably the most costly battle between the D-Day landings and the Battle of the Bulge in terms of casualties, armor, and supply lines. Final plans are being made for the subsequent operation, Jupiter. Which aims to disable a substantial portion of Panzer armor in France. It won't be easy, but the late Summer and early Autumn will bode well for the Allies. Until a miserable and deadly winter sets it. For tonight though, taking Caen is critical but will be incredibly costly. Remember this day the next time you meet a Canadian. After Juno, this was perhaps their finest hour in a war in which nobody attacked them and they had only slight obligation to Britain to fight. But they pressed through to Caen, led by a bunch of odd-sounding Nova Scotians and paved the advanced to Berlin. Suffered heavily along the way. TO THE CANUCKS!
  17. It can't be real, he's not wearing his lady's sports-watch to golf. AI forgets details sometimes. Or he's too fucking fat to put it on, either way...
  18. I would start shitting and puking from the time they set it down on the table. It reminds of this weird dish the woman I rented a room from years ago while living in Spain. Every week, she'd make white rice, with bananas, and ketchup. It looked and tasted horrifying. I think we got along okay. I was quiet and paid my rent on time, though came home late sometimes. Last year, my oldest asked about my time living in Spain for a year. And I told her about this dish the lady I rented from would make. So a couple days later, she makes the same dish. Pile of rice, sliced banana chunks with ketchup slathered on top. And she sits there and eats the whole thing. There's no way in the world the woman in Salamanca could know my daughter. But I think they were both fucking with me. And that, Surly friends, is when I came to accept the simulation. Deviled Eggs on a fucking Hot Dog? We're trying to run a society here!
  19. Yes, but what if the chainsaw directions aren't written in Espanol? Also, I'm sure some counties have a plan in place for this---but we're trying to locate and haul massive amounts of tarps. Not just for roofs, but to cover up downed limbs to dry up in the humidity so they can be easier to cut up and shredded. I think we looked into this with some trucks after Harvey. But they're harder to come by than you'd think given that nearly 2/3rds of tarps around the country aren't being used at any given time. But it's hard to aggregate them and haul them to one spot. We could do a few 53' loads of 'em but consolidating them and the fuel is the tricky part. I mean FEMA is there for roofs, but you can't truly start clearing limbs and brush if the shit is gonna stay wet for a month. Can't chip it or burn it. Well, looks like I'll be up for another couple of hours looking down logistics rabbit holes.
  20. Well, it's not gonna be exactly like their last tour.
  21. That's really awesome of him. Even if he does take a tax deduction on donating furniture to Joel Osteen's locked church. Nice to see a 73-year old merchant of Ottomans and Mattresses stepping up when I haven't heard a fucking peep from any statewide officials.
  22. Would not have guessed that. I suppose there's been WS titles won on walk-off HR's, but I guess not a game 7 just a clincher 5 or 6. But when I was talking about Bobby Richardson to somebody, he told me that Game 7---nobody struck out despite 8, count 'em 8, All-Star pitchers had time on the mound between both squads during that game 7. Like Augie always said, a tragic and beautiful sport. And just when you think you have it figured out, Mazeroski comes to the plate.
  23. You know, if I ask if you're Parkinson...you're legally obliged to tell me you're Parkinson. Even if you're undercover Parkinson or a strain of Sacramento Malaria. What in the fuck with this timeline?
  24. I remember one of 'em off-hand. Nobody struck out on either team. Although maybe that's happened before/since. No idea on the other one. Any hints?
