  1. It's like a bizarro-world Seinfeld episode with Kramer at the Tony Awards. "I know this is such a first date kinda question, butwhat you do for a living?" -Oh, I'm a seat filler. "Okay, yeah. I've heard of those. Like for awards shows or big events to make the house seem more full? Must be cool to see all those performances and games and get paid to do it." -Oh, I don't do it for the money. I just do it for Trump and because I love him. "Darn, my bad. Look at the time. I just remembered to get my malaria pills before I leave for Guam in the morning, forever. I got the check, see ya later."
  2. Yo Hooch, I dug her rap. My momma didn't raise no dummies. To this day, I can't sit through the VM scene in "Swingers", and I've seen the movie dozens of times. There are so many single-shot live-action takes from 90's thrillers that come to mind, before CGI took over. Emotionally speaking---the red jacket girl in Schindler's list, the ending scene with the self-bargaining scene between Kinglsey and Neason. The terminal hospital scenes in Million Dollar Baby, and now at this stage in my life any time a daughter has to watch her father die.
  3. I guess it's that time of year across parishes? Our Associate Pastor is still moving to Austin. And our Senior Pastor is on vacation. So we're having a couple of "guests" fill in since mid-July. One of the guys who we know personally through a relative basically gives a second homily at the end of service. We're lucky if we're done in under 1:20. He tip-toes a little too close to politics for my liking, but usually reigns it back when he remembers he's in arguably one of the most 5 most educated parishes in the State (of my wife's particular faith). Other than the petition for the unborn after homily, that's the only time anything like that ever comes up. I help cook and clean the kitchen for our children and seniors and us folks in the back, we'll once in a great while chat about politics/current events just to pass the time while working (sports and movies too). That's about it. All that to say, for decades-I've read and heard about the impact of faith on politics and vice-versa. The de-evolution of Evangelism, the moderation of Catholicism, the silent majority of Protestantism, the politicization of the pulpit, and how that's bled over into our political ecosystem. Mostly for the worse. But once again, we find ourselves in the part of the simulation where this is actually happening. This time, it all matters. The idolatry of Trump as God's Messenger v. People of True Faith from Black Churches to Vanilla Lutheranism. All hands on deck, we can all go back to pretending we never discussed it over coffee and fellowship. But for now until November, anybody at church mentions Trump and avoiding the evil Democrats-------ask them this question, "You agree that he's flawed, but that God sent him just the same to save our country from peril, right? He's sinned greatly as did most of God's messengers and church founders" They nod in agreement. "But from Moses to Paul, from David to Simon, from John to Matthew. All sinners, but all had one thing in common that Trump didn't do. They repented. They prayed for forgiveness and gave of themselves to something far larger than themselves---a place of inclusive love that would never know in their lifetimes." If it is God's will this sinful, self-absorbed man was sent here as a Test to see if we would follow him on a path to save our country and our souls. Would you at least consider the possibility there is just the slightest chance that is a Test from God. But it's to see if we'd follow the path laid before us by his son's sacrifice and avoid being led astray? If we're under examination, why veer from the lesson plan in favor a cheat code? We are being tested, and 40% of us are failing. Not saying the rest of us are exactly shining in his eyes right now, but at least he knows we respect the syllabus.
  4. What do we mean by 'hardest', like difficult to sit through because of the violence, difficult to sit through because of emotions, or technically complicated to film (like the Heat shootout)?
  5. Good comedy doesn't need to be parsed out according to race. But if this zoom-in clip is not the Black equivalent of Gob Bluth saying, "I've made a huge mistake"...then political memes are dead to me.
  6. ^ I don't get why you folks on here like to call him and his side "Weird."
  7. ^ Well the new, weird thriller film from the twisted mind of David Lynch looks interesting...
  8. I get the Ali comparison. Because Ali emerged from the corner a few rounds over the years to fight even though he was in a definite fog. LeBron goes out there not 100%, yeah-he could tear an ACL or break an ankle. There's some old school NFLers who definitely stayed in for plays when their brains had no idea where they were other than off-tackle ready to get the ball. Nowadays, no GOAT from Brady to anybody else is even going to be allowed to stay in the stadium, let alone go in for a series if they even remotely display symptoms like Simone. I think Boxing is probably the only major sport that compares to losing your awareness for a split second having a high likelihood of brain damage. That's not gonna happen to Bolt, or Messi, or Phelps, Chamberlain, or Gretzky, or Serena Willams. They can seriously injure themselves and be forced into early retirement but they'll chew their own food. Compare Simone to LeBron by height. Some of the heights her little body achieves are 11-12' (depending on vault, floor, uneven bars). That's like a guy the size of LeBron dunking from 14-15' off the court (his head too, not just his dunking hand). Now think of LeBron getting the rock near the free throw line, 4-5 powerful steps in before lift-off. He's moving, but not all that fast. He comes down wrong, 99.9% of the time the impact is absorbed by his legs and butt/lower back. He probably sits out the rest of the quarter with ice. When Simone begins the propulsion rotations for a dismount from the top of the uneven bars, (the centrifugal force in stories) her inertia is creating a tremendous amount of force that makes a tomahawk dunk look simple when you consider the mass of the bodies in question. Landing wrong could mean anything from a twisted ankle to fractured spine. Thankfully, that's an apparatus where coaches are within inches and can help break the fall if they see something go awry on the descent. Floor is kind of a mixed animal. Here's why her sitting out the vault in Tokyo is not "quitting on 'Murica, nor her team." She approaches the vault at sprinter speeds of roughly 16-18mph. Barefoot. That's faster than most of us can sprint for 50m on a forgiving track with proper running shoes. Depending on the maneuver/attempt number, she will be achieving heights of up to 12' (again consider her size). She will most likely be leaving the springboard head/hand-first, and quite possibly backwards. All of which, combined with her velocity create unprecedented amounts of force for the human body outside a mechanized device. Now, at these elite levels, they obviously train to remain cognizant and composed at those speeds and heights to execute twists/flips/tucks/etc. You don't seem them at practice or lesser competitions, but if they are not feeling (Simone or otherwise) 100% mentally, they will frequently sit out or delay a run. tl;dr---Given her speed approaching the fault, the force generated, the position in which she leaves, peaks and, lands. Combined with the fact that nobody can get to vaulter in peril as fast as they'd like. And because of how quickly she moves in the air as compared to ground-speed. If she goes dark for just 1/10th of a second up there, it's not a MCL or broken ankle or shattered hip. It's C2-C7 compressing to absorb the fall and she spends 18 months learning to walk again. I don't care about GOAT debates. We're all biased by generation and geography. In the end, it's the Cowherds and Romes of the world, a pack of has-beens and never-was', shouting at one another about nothing empirical. But physics are objective. You can't sleep on gravity. But you can stay awake polishing all that gold.
  9. This looks awesome, but you go to the bit.ly deal and the page is down. Is there some super-secret way to register?
  10. And guess who just released a limited run of couch and recliner throw pillows in 6 lovely colors just in time for the Harris VP announcement to up against Vance? You guessed it: https://www.mypillow.com/accessory-pillows/couch-and-recliner-pillows Meanwhile, Trump's staff is using the same infill material to pad dummies to sit in the rafters in Atlanta to make it seem like a larger crowd than Harris'. Give the simulation its due, this is fucking wild.
  11. He also dresses like he's about to tell the group, "You know most folks don't know this, but most great coups started out at bars and pubs..." (twists mustache and adjusts bow-tie)..."Allow me to tell you about my craft cocktail program."
  12. Could be Frank's Ocean. Or legendary Balkan adult film star Aletta's Ocean (also the nickname of her taint). What were we talking about again? Yeah, I can't make out what those boxes say in that TikTok video with JD and those other dudes. The ones that flank his chair, that they give to him on the way out so he can 'use it on the plane.' What is that stuff? I don't have an account so I can't zoom in.
  13. Yeah, that was a pretty damn good burger. Everything there has gone so downhill recently though. I used their digital kitchen earlier this week, my first What-a-Burger visit in several months. Burger was as average as average could be, right at the 50%ile. Anyway, I never have an opinion on hatch chiles. I have a few other peppers I'm good at cooking with. My kids don't like heat, but are just now kinda sorta trying out mild spice here and there. So Hatch works out well. Plus they love this time of year at our Central Market because C/M puts out all these little tasting stations (Hatch dessert, hatch bread, hatch yogurt, etc.). It broadens their palate and we pickup a few things to go. To me, Hatch Season is like CF Bowl Season. It's superfluous sure, so if you don't like it...just don't participate.
  14. Article goes on to state, not that the police could know this and they were gonna be violent assholes either way, the son has autism. Mountains of research lately is detailing how good it is for young folks with autism to spend time outside early in the morning before their day begins (school, therapy, etc.) and then later on before bed time (prepares them for better sleep). My point is, the young man not only had to watch that horrific brutality, he will now likely associate that quality time in nature that is so needed by his brain, with violence and anxiety. There's no civil suit or department disciplinary action that's gonna change that for him.
  15. Yep, add Newsom and Beshear to that list as well. Some of those folks are never gonna make a strong POTUS candidate, but they can certainly gain/hold Senate seats and Governor's Mansions and Cabinet Secretary positions. But that's a multi-decade runway there on that list of POTUS/VP slots in that mix there. And what's more...the Clintons and Bidens and Pelosis of this nation seem to have made their peace with it and are getting the fuck outta the way.
  16. This. For 20 years, all the Democratic party had was Schumer who vaguely knew what was happening to James Carville basically. Who, while brilliant and versed and articulate, still came across as a demonic troll. Now they've built a bench of about 10 'attack proxies' who can cover anything from Sunday morning shows to late night to opening act for rallies/fundraisers, to attack ads, and everything in between. Pete, Shapiro, Walz, Crockett, Moskowitz, Rankin, Ted Lieu, Whitmer, et. al. Seriously good communicators who go on offense while still knowing proper policy defense...and are engaging, even funny, while doing it. That's a big gulf they just closed the last few years.
  17. Yeah, I figured it was. but who knows in this simulation anymores? But Trump will be saying something derogatory about Kyle in the coming days, for realz, of that---you can be sure. This. I think they'll still squeeze the last bit of value out of him even after Trump loses/dies. Some Texas politician will still use him to grift the stupids for a few years, and then kick him to the curb. He's just barely self-aware enough to to one day realize what he was to them, a movie-of-the-week/flavor-of-the-month. He's uneducated (couldn't make Arizona State online nor Blinn CC), not much family or friends---just 'hangers-on.' No real charisma or leadership, not much change of getting a girl, still has a stink about him that he won't be able to shake with most adults he'll encounter from now on outside his little bubble. And the final civil suit against him will wipe out whatever he made from licensing his name to some poor-selling video games. He seems vulnerable to addiction and a penchant for firearms. And the non-stop online and public ridicule he receives for years (both MAGA and non MAGA alike) will fester at him beyond recognition. So all that to say, there's a 51% chance he's drunk or on pills in the front seat of his aging truck and swallows a round. It makes the news 48 hours later when mall security peeks inside. After that, other than his mother and two sisters, I doubt anybody ever thinks about him again after that.
  18. Yeah, why are we just glossing over that part of the post? "More than me" implies that "I have some." I think we all walk around with a tacit social understanding that none of us has murdered anybody, except for a handful of known murderers-most of whom aren't out on the street. Kristi Noem, who I supported after she shot more dogs than me... Like, you don't have to include that part. You just say someone you supported legally/politically turned their back on you or whatever. Why bring wrongful deaths into it when nobody was even thinking that?
  19. Reminds me of when Triumph the Insult Comic Dog worked the window at the Weiner’s Circle in Chicago. Walz and his pup would be perfect for this. Hey Vance, that’s a really nice sofa…….for me to poop on. Here’s your order JD, half bratwurst and half hot dog on one bun. Take it to that corner booth and explain to it that it’s wrong. And no weirdo, we don’t have diet Mountain Dew here. Can you please order for your wife since a true woman needs a man to make tough decisions for, you bearded thumb, creepy ass mother fucker. You want some ketchup to go to suck off the orange guy’s balls? I kid, I kid. Piss off
  20. "Say, J.D. Where'd you get that workshirt for the border photo opp...'The Lumbar Yard'?" I'll see myself out.
  21. That's kinda what it sounded like. I think they're gonna start field testing more and more stuff. Like she was not seen frequently enough in 22 & 23 due to substance abuse, or was having affairs, or traveling to India on taxpayer's dime, or playing too much cricket. Yes, Independents...that voter bloc always known for turning out by the tens of millions for micro-issues like Israel, cafe mileage standards, and AMT code modification. The real curtain droppers on Election Day. Crafting her campaign around Israel/Palestine in the hopes she swings the minds of maybe 500,000 independents who usually don't vote? Yeah, brilliant idea. You'd have loved voting in 1940, "Look, I know the Lend-Lease program to support Britain and our European allies is the right thing to do overall, and we should vote accordingly. But if our next President doesn't vow to scrap the whole agenda and focus on a 1-state solution for Gibraltar...I'm staying home and listening to jazz!"
  22. 1. People proactively scheming their telegraphed complaints about 2024 Election-Trump & MAGA base since about start of 2021 2a. People proactively scheming their telegraphed justification for still voting for 2024 Trump despite their disgust and frustration with him-Rest of GOP voters since about start of 2024 2b. People proactively scheming their telegraphed complaining about the Democratic Party being responsible for ethnic genocide of Palestinians- 10 to 20% of far-left "liberals" who probably weren't gonna fucking vote anyway out of their bi-annual pouty test that not everything in big kid adults fits their worldview. Or maybe put a Jill Stein or RFKJR sticker on their laptop outta protest. Must be nice. While I respect your position, just do all of us-including yourself-a favor. Stay the fuck home and complain about "the corporations" to your Che Guevara poster like you do every other fucking November. Shit's gone too far here at home, you can't course correct anything about the Middle East when we seal off the Homeland to everything in.....or out. Could we pull off a line of shirts/stickers that say, "Keep Austin Weird, but not like Vance Weird."??? I think that could sell.. This. See 2b above.
  23. Don't you live in Texas? How hard can the concept of bi-racial be for you? There are literally millions of us, just in Texas. You live, work, and play/travel among folks like this everyday. When I'm around one side of my family, I eat differently and speak in a different language than I do with the other side where I eat more blandly and speak the King's. When I am presenting before a group of Hispanics, I speak in Spanish and take on certain mannerisms than I do when I present before a group of Anglos. It's not a conspiracy, dude. You ever walk into a store or restaurant hungover? And you're cranky and tired and pissed, but you need food? And then you get up to the register and raise your head and smile and speak in a calm, polite voice. Similar thing except its in our blood, not just our social interactions. Ever been talking to an obviously "slow" group of East Texans and you kinda consciously dumb down your vocabulary and really lower the bar on what you consider to be interesting or funny? Everybody adapts every day in almost every situation. Well, being bi-racial isn't much different...we're not in denial about the other half at any one given time..we're merely embracing one aspect of our soul before moving onto the next facet at the next thing, and the one after that. I don't get how educated people in Texas don't get this concept. I expected it from hicks in Wyoming or Missouri, but Texas?
