^ I still love that scene in "Band of Brothers" when they're running through their jump kit inventory before their final practice run. It's insane how much they brought with them and still managed to land safely (for the most part). To reference a post I made a few days ago, a lot of those guys had never seen plastic in rural America. And had to be trained on water-tight protection of their gear in case of landing in a river or marsh. And as fate would have it, some of the Airborne help liberate a Danish family weeks later of the man who invented plastic and died just weeks before Overlord. Pro-tip, when you complete the kit. Put in a pin-up doll poster from 1944 for the old man.

Running Alt-Right Thread of Mockery and Hypocrisy
YGIFS replied to bad_teammate's topic in Cloak Room
Is it troop or troupe? I know one guy in a group, but sounds like you know more. It could just be called "The Grievances" and one can dress as the women at the Festivus dinner. Elaine, Hot Gwen, Bad Lighting on the Porch Gwen (I know this one won't go over well), and then an older person as a sexy Estelle Costanza. They're gonna be dancing around poles anyway, why not make it an aluminum Festivus pole? Plus a kick-ass dinner with some light wrestling as dance number. I think this could be something. -
The encumbered amount continues to grow as another round of paper was sold for this in May. Higher interest rates with lower assessed values on much of the property in Austin due to the Legislature. Higher construction bids than expected, slower capital design/permitting process, and a radical altering of the initial routes and adjacent land acquisitions. Yeah, I can't believe this isn't going better. Shocked. Shocked, I tell you. Bike lanes to the airport will still probably happen though. If that's of any consolation. We could have a bond proposal in November to sell bonds to pay for research into why our other bonds aren't working and Austin would still vote for it. Fucking simulation.

Yeah, I put Hitler's mom against the wall with my long mustache on a chair. Dammit, I had something for this. That photo always reminds me and I can never find it in any of my books or online. But there was a Colonel in Heer Group B tomorrow morning, I believe stationed near "Gold LZ". Commanding dozens of fixed positions and comms setup to thousands of troops. And he had to be literally shaken back to reality to give orders because he looked out onto the horizon and admitted to his superiors later on, "I never knew there were that many ships in all the world. And they're all coming for us." He eventually gets it together but the Allied landings go pretty well. I'm guessing like Neidermeyer, he is shot later that day by his own troops.

A story about a pathetic man's downfall [34 Felony Convictions]
YGIFS replied to Francisco 2.0's topic in Cloak Room
Let's workshop this. His throat goiter, vagina looking thing. What's an amalgam for those terms? Plus it's obviously been tanned and waxed. That's all we can do right now. Nobody gives a shit that apparently he's claiming to have back-channel, preferred deals with Putin. It's been apparent for 8 fucking years. If people haven't picked up on it by now, they're not going to. My apologies to the family of the imprisoned journalist, but this won't turn the needle either way. -
I agree. I don't know much about the woman's game other than a few Lady Longhorns games back in the day. But I was an assistant on my oldest's team. I had nothing to offer coaching-wise except rebounding balls during warm-ups and giving out snacks. But my daughter can't shoot very well. Only 2 good shooters on her team. But we tried to work on bounce passing because at their age, it's deceiving to the other team. They all try to do close-in chest passes and some girl gets in between. But a distant bounce pass is lethal and can advance the ball much farther while the other girls are twirling their hair. Anyway, so I queue up some WNBA games to show her what I mean after we practice IRL. And sure as fuck, 20 minutes later...not a single fucking bounce pass. Old man yells at bounce cloud.

Yeah, I smell a whole new genre of porn instead of this creepy 'Step' stuff. Mom comes with 22yo daughter to interview. Questions ensue. The desk is cleared and eventually a hot threeway develops. I really don't see the problem here, especially if they're inappropriately dressed. I guess the eye contact thing would bother me, nothing better than a blowjob from a woman staring into your eyes. What were we talking about again? Oh yeah, Human Resources. It's on floor 37.

Damn Swiss. But I guess somebody had to hide all the Axis money. Plus, lost to history is both the Axis and Allies bought an awful lotta O&G from the Middle East during the war and paid whatever was asked because of the essential need. Well that money also got housed in Switzerland and laid the groundwork for OPEC 15 years later. But yeah, again---even with the 10th Mountain Division and Airborne, it's not that easy to move Sherman tanks through 13,000 foot mountains. Unless you pull a Capt. Sobel and just keep yelling "Pivot! Pivot! Pivot! I don't understand, I have a diagram and everything." Yeah, I hate to say it but it's reality. This is the last major anniversary of Overlord where there'll be hundreds to thousands or survivors. At 85, we'll be down to the double-digits most likely, even with the guys who lied about their age.

-Uh, because of the challenge of getting armor through the Alps? Well check out the big brain on Brad!

1930hrs in South England. Eisenhower leaves his temporary HQ at this moment for Newbury to address the 101st Airborne. Preliminary flight checks have begun on the aircraft that will depart in 3-4 hours time that will carry those paratroopers. Another under-appreciated group, 255 Minesweepers make ready right about now to leave port at midnight (surprisingly large number of them Canadian). They are miraculously successful in clearing the path for the rest of the fleet. Thousands and thousands of Allied Troops will have their last supper right about now. Most of them know it, but they're going in the morning anyway.

So she posted it upside down and backwards? Perfect analogy for the cognitive state of her husband.

It is because of men like him that Utah went much better than expected. RIP to his fallen brothers, but damn---great to see him belt one out. Hope he talks some 70-year old French lass into throwing him some booty tonight.

Yeah, either our buddies had the full padding deal on all the bars and helmet or nothing at all but some axle pegs for friends. I had the latter. One time though in junior high on my Chromoly mainframe (if you know, you know), was trying to be cool in the summer and took my shirt off to ride with friends and impress junior high chicks. So draped my t-shirt over the handle bar. After a few blocks, it slips into my front wheel and cogs it up and I go flying over the front of the bike (cause I still do dumb shit to this day). So much blood in my eyes, I couldn't see and still have the scar to this day. It was one of those rare moments in our youths where instead of laughing at you, your friends could instinctively tell, "Yeah, I think bleeding that much from the head is kinda serious." We went to Bill P.'s house since his parents weren't home and I cleaned it up and it finally quit bleeding, probably should have gotten stitches. The modern day equivalent of your friend clearing your browser history for you, Bill P. probably spent 30 minutes throwing away all my bloody rags and band-aid wrappers and wiped down all the bathroom before his parents got home from work. I think of the ending to "Stand By Me" when the narrator types "I never had any friends like I did when I was twelve."

Sorry about putting my "mayonnaise" in your eye. Yeah, I hit that one up a couple times whilst working in the Arboretum. I loved 'em as a kid in Chicago. But moved to Texas and felt they were overrated. I did love the do your own condiments bar thing back when. I'm not anti-chain, it's just hard to feel sorry for closures of places that over-lease their spaces in a time when the model is dying. Everybody laments the closure of their childhood favorite spots and then realizes they hadn't gone there in 20 years. Such is the cycle. Also, imagine what Donald Trump would do with that massive self-serve ketchup dispenser. It would end up looking like a bad episode of "Dexter." -
What "leader" is he referring to in that speech?

Not that I'm in a position to judge, but so many men lied to get out of service. It still blows me away how many lied to get into service. It is about 6 mos. from now, 80 years ago, my grand-uncle Steve lies to the U.S. Navy about his age. He completes BESS (or whatever it was called back then) and gets Submarine duty before I think he even turned 18. Mostly mop-up duty as the war winds down, as U-Boats return to port with some still being feisty. Likely would have headed over to the Okinawa/Honshu but they kept his sub group in the Baltic Sea to watch after the Soviets. Goes on to serve many years and is the last of just a handful of his Sub class still alive and chairs their alumni association to this day. He comes through San Antonio (via Florida) every couple of years for their reunions. A different breed, I suppose...

2024 Presidential Election Thread - Let's keep the party going.

GOP: "Look, we have other guiding principles! It's not all about Trump!" America: "Okay, your last RNC platform was literally gutted and just listed Trump. So what are these other ideas and planks?" GOP: "Well we have a number of other ideas. Such as ideals, and greatness, and other things of that nature." America: "Lemme guess. You'll get back to us with those details in two weeks?" -
Well, you got the assault part correct. I don't think he was humiliated, he was rather composed given the insanity of the situation. One second, you think the Dad is rushing up there to hug the daughter or do a selfie or some other benign prank...next thing you know-you're being shoved around from a MAGA central casting member. Superintendent will bounce back with poise. The Dad is a piece of shit obviously. The whole graduation, especially for grandparents in attendance, is now forever tainted. I have no idea what the daughter's viewpoints are, but I feel bad for her. Because she's likely on to University in a few months time. And she'll simply be known as "Oh, you're that girl whose family attacks black men." It will hang over her for 4-5 years, and it's gonna suck real bad.

0930 in Southern England. Hundreds of servicemen will spend the next 18 hours fueling an additional 5,000 ships/landing craft and 12,000 aircraft. Tires filled. Parachutes checked. And ammo is distributed. It will be a very nerve-racking and busy day on the day before Overlord. The preparations are kept until the last minute to maintain the decoy model. In a few hours, the armor will begin to be loaded onto the transport ships. indicating to every Allied personnel that it’s actually happening.

I don’t know if you read the brochure, but the world was already at war. the decision to push back the bulk of the fleet and airborne drops to 6 June has already been made. This initial launch is done roughly now/24hrs before main invasion because the plan had been to move them slower and in a more random pattern. They have the benefit of cloud cover but a few kriegsmarine ships and u-boats still cause trouble. The first wave of barges manage to communicate undetected with British subs that had submerged days prior and stayed radio silent and managed to avoid detection. They will begin comms with the first surface wave in a couple of hours indicating where to zig zag given the underwater topography of the 5 landing zones. Particularly Omaha which will prove the rockiest underwater causing issues for Higgins boats as the armada causes the tide to manipulate smoother landings. The MG-42’s and 88’s won’t help matters either. But we are on our way to a successful landing.
-
At this exact moment (England/normandy time); 80 years ago…the first large barges full of Higgins and Allied equivalents begin to be loaded with assault troops. They will push off in 30 minutes time, 24 hours ahead of the first beachead assaults and airborne drops. The first wave will move slower than the rest of the convoy and will need the extra time to tic-tac and avoid u-boat and luftwaffen detection in the dense cloud cover. Most of the men will be up until the beach landing with little to No rest but 95% of the ships will survive the next 24 hours. Rommel awakes to shave and enjoy breakfast before setting off to Meet his wife for her birthday the following day. Before he does so, another ten divisions are ordered in along with a hasty plan to move Luftwaffe corps around the coastline. tens of thousands of allied and wermacht personnel wake up just now For the last time of their lives.
