I like crypto as an investment and a good way to make money, but I don't see it ever going completely mainstream and replacing the American dollar in this country.
I think the US government has the ability to hurt Bitcoin more than you'd think. Look at XRP. Jay Clayton, Trump's head of the SEC, filed a lawsuit on his last day in office claiming XRP was an unregistered security. That is still pending a final outcome, but the announcement of the lawsuit alone erased about 50% of its value and kept the price down while BTC and altcoins went on a record setting run. For the first time in the better part of a decade, XRP is no longer a top 5 coin. It would probably be sitting at $3 to $5 without the interference of the SEC.
If the government says "Bitcoin is used by many for nefarious reasons and is now illegal", the same thing could happen to it. Never underestimate people in power to mess up a good thing.
