  1. A friend just texted me that because of the all-PL Champions League final, and with City and Chelsea (likely) finishing in the top four, the fifth-placed team in the PL would qualify. I feel like that scenario has come up in the last decade or so but I can't put my finger on the particulars, or if that's even the case. Anyone know for sure?
  2. You're giving Rudy way, way too much credit.
  3. I highly recommend anyone interested in abolition to pick up a copy of Mariame Kaba's excellent book "We Do This Til We Free Us". It's uplifting, if grim at times, and clearly lays out the needs for police abolition and the goals of organizers who seek to dismantle of our horrific, dystopian carceral state.
  4. Wisconsin state Treasurer Sarah Godlewski announced her senate candidacy today. Still no official word from Ron Johnson if he'll seek a third term, though he recently got an enthusiastic endorsement from Trump so it seems likely. Plus he's a dumb sociopathic asshole, so there's that. She's the third candidate to announce, along with Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson and son-of-billionaire/Bucks owner Alex Lasry.

    Pizza

So, tangentially related to pizza, but the other night I had a pint of Southern Nights Northern Lights, which is a collaboration between Blackstack Brewing and Pinthouse Pizza. Holy shit it was good, a really incredible triple IPA. Blackstack always does good shit but this is probably the best of theirs that I've had. If you can find it in Austin and like IPA's, give it a shot. Pinthouse is not an establishment I'm familiar with. Good spot? How's the pizza?
  6. When Trent hit that thunderbastard I screamed as loudly as I can remember. We desperately needed that, collectively and individually. I just wish he could've gotten the Kop roar that he deserved. As for Leicester, they finish the season with United, Chelsea, Spurs. I would not bet on them finishing in the CL spots at this point.
  7. Got that sweet sweet second dose of Pflizer on Wednesday. Definitely felt mild flu-like symptoms yesterday but I'm more or less back to 100% today. It wouldn't have been so bad if our nanny hadn't also gotten hers on Wednesday, since it meant watching our 3-year old and 8-week old puppy all damn day.
  8. When they can't gerrymander the fuck out of the race, the GOP tends to lose.
  9. Leicester is 7 points up on 5th place. Man U is 11 points up on 5th. Those are much different situations.
  10. As much as our neverending CB crisis has hurt us this year, I think Jota being out for 2.5 months actually hurt us more. Dude can't help but put the ball in the net.
  11. I think some of the guys who were not away on international duty will get a run out. Ox seems like a good bet at facing his former club after he had a good cameo against Wolves. This break has felt about as long as most offseasons.
  12. Imagine being more upset about an exhibition game changing venues than Jim Crow-style voter suppression.
  13. I mean, you're probably right but I understand why people aren't exactly at ease. Also – we need to continue to step on the GQP's throats while they're gasping for air. No quarter for these traitorous assholes.
  14. Lmao I clicked on this thread thinking that there might actually be a shred of something resembling a compelling argument. Fuck me.
  15. That article feels a bit like red meat and I don't want to get my hopes up, but this was certainly encouraging:
  16. Still blows my mind that some dumbass centrists think normal people will be outraged if we get rid of some procedural relic of the Jim Crow era. Shit, we're posting on a fucking politics board and a bunch of us (myself included) didn't even know the stupid ass rules of the filibuster until recently. I would bet that 99% of the general population couldn't explain what it is or how it works, and if you told them exactly what it did in practice they'd tell you it's fucking dumb. But no, we can't pass most meaningful legislation because it would be the end of this precious procedure. Won't somebody please think of the deliberative bodies???
  17. I'm not sure of the accuracy of that map. Wisconsin certainly does not have medical legalized because we are strangled by the GOP-dominated, most gerrymandered state legislature in the country. It fuckin sucks.
  18. Strom Thurmond filibustered the Civil Rights Act for 24 hours and 18 minutes, in an impressively racist act and display of stamina. But there can be consecutive talking filibusters, correct? So if every GQP member pulled a Strom and filibustered for 24 hours, we could be talking about 60+ days (including weekends and recesses)?
  19. Oh yeah, I agree wholeheartedly. I am absolutely not saying "Well, he won't be impeached by this senate so what's the point?" I was merely pointing out that – even though it won't happen – it is possible to remove a Supreme Court justice. This is a very interesting development and I hope they uncover some serious shit, because Kavanaugh absolutely has some skeletons in his closet.
  20. Supreme Court judges can be impeached but it would take 2/3 of the senate to convict and remove. So yeah, that ain't happening.
  21. Well if there's one thing power hungry narcissists are known for it's listening to people who tell them no when they want something.
