  1. Wisconsin's Democratic governor issued a statewide indoor mask mandate yesterday. The (insanely gerrymandered) Republican-dominated state legislature hasn't passed a bill since April 15 (despite ya know, a global pandemic, Depression-level unemployment, etc.) but now they suddenly want to meet to try and block the order through legislation. Previously, the only action they took was to sue Gov Evers' stay-at-home order, which was struck down by what has become their pet Supreme Court. (A new Supreme Court justice, a Democrat who won by a wide margin in April, will be sworn in on Monday.)
  2. Hard to keep up with the various away goals policies across all the different leagues, but in the promotion playoffs, the away goals rule is *not* in place.
  3. Mike Ashley can't do anything right.
  4. There is absolutely a double standard – men are seen as ambitious while women are seen as conniving or sneaky. (Or, as that tweet points out "too" ambitious.) It's fucking bullshit and it's important that we recognize it and do what we can to change our own perceptions and biases. That's not my issue with Kamala though. My issue is that she tries to have it both ways – her half-hand raise on supporting M4A which she later walked back (I still have no idea where she stands); her claim that she loved to smoke weed and listen to Tupac, then going on to incarcerate Black men for doing the same when she became a prosecutor and AG of California, etc. I have no problem with her ambition. I respect it. I think she's smart and tough, and I think she does a good job of balancing kindness and empathy with ruthlessness when she has to. I just question her authenticity.
  5. Kid knows where the back of the net is.
  6. Griffin Park would have been one helluva venue for a PL away day.
  7. What made me think of him as a possibility was the Beeb's gossip column, which said he has two "concrete offers" from PL clubs. Almost certainly bullshit though and I can't imagine anyone paying him near those kinds of wages.
  8. It's hard to think of someone who wouldn't be an improvement over Pelosi.
  9. What kind of wages is Willian on at Chelsea? He's out of contract this summer – wouldn't mind him on a free tbh. He wouldn't play much but he'd be a good backup attacking option and at 31, he's still got a couple good years left. Obviously unlikely, for any number of reasons, but given our tight pursestrings and his availability, we could do a lot worse.
  10. Atletico reject Arsenal bid of cash + Guendouzi for Thomas Partey
  11. It took me a minute to figure out the point this ad was trying to make, which is that Gideon would like to positively impact the lives of her constituents *too much* and she should therefore not be elected to the Senate.
  12. Warren is my top choice, by a wide margin. But Biden picking Harris, the Dems taking control of the Senate, and Warren as the majority leader is absolutely a dream scenario. Not a perfect analog by any means, but who's currently more influential – Mike Pence or Mitch McConnell?
  13. Josh Ononomah with a goal of the season candidate. Beat three players in the box and tucks it away neatly.
  14. Watching Fulham v. Cardiff and Paul Konchesky is about as good a commentator as he was a left back.
  15. Helps that the UK isn't a failed state.
  16. What a season. Klopp will have the boys fired up for a repeat – the silver lining to not getting to 100 points this year is that we have a goal for next year. Minamino and Keita will be our "like a new signing" guys, and we'll bring back Brewster and possibly Wilson. I doubt Wilson can crack the first team but you never know. We have to buy a new CB (heavily rumored with Schalke's Turkish defender Ozan Kabak) and I would really like a new attacker. Sarr seems to be the rumor du jour but I'd much rather have a guy like Traore, though he'd cost us an arm and a leg. Lots of playing time for Jones, Elliott, Neco, and maybe Hoever. Other position of need is a LB. Gini's contract is also something we need to get done. How many days until Sept 12?
  17. I'd like to see Swansea or Fulham back. Fuck off Cardiff.
  18. Hard to put into perspective just how incredible our two fullbacks are. Trying to think of a fullback pairing that even comes close to these two and the best I can come up with is Roberto Carlos and Michel Salgado and they don't hold a candle to our boys: In 2002-03, Roberto Carlos had 11 assists and five goals. Salgado had two assists and no goals. They were on the title winning side in La Liga (CL semifinalists) and were part of a defense that conceded 42 goals. This season Trent had 13 assists and four goals. Robertson had 11 assists and two goals. We won the league (duh) and conceded 32 goals. That type of production from a pair of fullbacks will almost surely never be replicated. It's obviously mentioned a lot when people talk about Klopp's Liverpool but I'm not sure it can be overstated just how important they are to this side.
  19. Just a heads up that today's match vs. Arsenal is only available on Peacock TV, but it's streaming for free. Also, never forget:
  20. Nice to see @Bama Chick has taken over the Alabama Dems twitter account.
  21. Agreed. Dems need to stop the "Have you no decency, good sir?!!" messaging and learn how to land a fucking punch.
  22. I'm sure they'll get time as well but neither are a part of our best midfield. Ox hasn't been good at all since the season resumed and my argument for Jones is that he needs two more appearances to get a PL medal. He's also a player we will likely see a lot of next year, so time to start bedding him in. Milner can come in for Robbo.
