  1. Ah! Well. Nevertheless,
  2. Distract, confuse, ad hominem attacks. Anything to avoid having to talk about public health.
  3. The Wisconsin Supreme Court is a joke on par with the US Supreme Court. Lame duck Justice (and I use that term loosely) Dan Kelly, who was voted out by an overwhelming margin on April 7, was the deciding vote in a 4-3 decision that struck done Governor Evers' "Safer at Home" order. It's a complete miscarriage of justice by a couple partisan hacks. The GOP-controlled state legislature, who only maintain control due to extreme gerrymandering, has offered fuck all when it comes to plans or ideas on how to deal with the pandemic, opting only to litigate the democratically-elected governor. It's disgusting. 70% of Wisconsinites support Evers' order and Evers has a 59% approval rating (33% disapproval). https://recombobulationarea.substack.com/p/5-marquette-poll-takeaways-huge-support
  4. Okay. How'd Trump's endorsement work out for Dan Kelly?
  5. Another special election today in northern Wisconsin. It's been solidly R since 2010, when they elected a dipshit from The Real World named Sean Duffy, who was a typical embarrassment-to-humanity Republican. Don't expect this one to flip blue but Tricia Zunker is a good candidate and Trump gave the Republican, Tom Tiffany the kiss of death last night w/ his enthusiastic endorsement, so who knows.
  6. Don't see how it's anyone but Kamala tbh. Her quick decision to drop her campaign was a signal at the time, I thought, and while I don't really buy the idea that the VP needs to be ready to step in from day 1, I think a lot of people do. Kamala (and Warren, certainly) ticks that box, from an optics perspective. I don't love her by any stretch of the imagination, but I think she's the best choice for VP and it's not really even close.
  7. Ranking the 50 Worst PL Transfers of All-Time I'd never heard of Ali Dia before reading his blurb at #1 and holy shit that's an incredible story.
  8. Very cool to see that all cheerleaders for the Iraq War are rallying around someone who voted in favor of the Iraq War.
  9. Ligue 1 doesn't have to repay broadcasters £765M if they cancel the rest of their season. PL does.
  10. On the one hand, I want the poll results to be public to shame whatever moron voted yes. On the other hand, I don't want to reveal the embarrassment that is me having actually voted in this poll.
  11. I find it hard to believe it will be anyone but Kamala. VP isn't usually worth much but I agree with most here that it's an atypical situation w/ a candidate who's so old. Kamala ran a terrible campaign but she landed some big, if very scripted, punches in the debates. Then again, those punches didn't knock anyone out so ultimately they didn't really matter, but Joe definitely had to take note. She also dropped out pretty quickly, which led to some speculation at the time that she had an agreement in place for the VP pick w/ Biden. Harris bothers me for a lot of reasons but I like her a lot more than Klobuchar. Whitmer does nothing for me either and Warren is much better in the Senate. I still think Tammy Baldwin is a dark horse candidate, despite her seat being subject to a special election in Wisconsin.
  12. Fresh India is fantastic and it's an absolutely beautiful book. I've only done a few recipes out of it though – any favorites in there you could recommend? I've been meaning to do the Pickled Cauliflower w/ Ginger & Lime, along with the Moong Dal w/ a Garlic & Cumin Tarka. Haven't made it to the Indian grocer after running out of curry leaves. (Stupid pandemic.)
  13. I make these lentils about once a week – hadn't made them in awhile, decided to have them for lunch, and my mouth literally started watering thinking of them. Lentils are usually a tough sell for me but these blew me away and I will make this recipe the rest of my life. (Helps that my 2-year old eats them as enthusiastically as I do.) Puy lentils w/ tahini, cumin, and lemon If you're not familiar with Yotam Ottolenghi, he's one of the best in the game these days. Israeli-English chef with a bunch of restaurants in London and a handful of fantastic books ("Jerusalem" is the best imo), several of them ("Plenty", "Plenty More") are vegetarian. His weekly column in The Guardian is must-read.
  14. Been meaning to do it for awhile and finally got around to it. Really glad we did, for any number of reasons. Assuming he gets some pigs this spring, we'll probably get a half-hog as well. I got a bit of a deal on the quarter, as I'm pretty friendly with the farmer and technically it wasn't a straight quarter. I asked for fewer steaks and more cheap cuts and he was happy to oblige, so I've got a ton of ground beef, a lot of stews and roasts, and ended up with an untrimmed brisket, which I specifically asked for. No tongue though, unfortunately. (I think the steaks sell better at farmers markets, or at least they used to. This whole pandemic situation might change the calculus...) Thanks for being a steward of the land! Anyone on the fence about it should take the plunge – it's reassuring to have a freezer full of meat, the product is fantastic, and you'll be helping out good people.
  15. In better news, Milwaukee Common Council unanimously approves SafeVote Program, which will send an absentee ballot application to every registered voter. Would be better if they sent actual ballots, but this is a huge step in the right direction. Every major city should be doing this to counteract since the GOP who will do everything to strangle democracy.
  16. Well, I'm in Milwaukee but I paid $800. Not sure the hanging weight but it ended up being 100 lbs of meat in my freezer.
  17. Just bought a quarter side of grass-fed beef. Not really worried about the supply chain necessarily but I wanted to support a local farmer and a shorter supply chain. Chest freezer is packed – wonder how long it'll last for our family of four.
  18. Glad this thread was bumped to show what human garbage Mike Bloomberg is. Fuck this guy forever.
  19. Ok, thanks everyone for the feedback and encouragement. When I was looking into breeds I found some site where they basically said you're Cruella DeVille if you leave your dog at home while you're at work and it kinda freaked me out. Obviously many, if not most dogs spend their days at home while their human is at work, but I guess I just needed people to tell me that that's okay. I will say – it's been pretty tough finding a good match and also finding a shelter that will adopt to families w/ any kids under six years old. Thanks again y'all.
