  1. He was actually 17 when he had the emergency appendectomy that caused that 3-month layoff. I'm not sure I consider a 4-day absence anything noteworthy. The ankle injury at Southampton was pretty serious and he missed a big chunk of time, though some of it was almost certainly due to his interest in leaving the club. I think it's funny that saying we should buy another CB because our 22-year old potential star of the future has yet to have a healthy season during his 4 years at the club. I get that there's this idea that we'll impede his progress if we buy someone like De Ligt, but he's 3 years older than De Ligt, and if Gomez is good enough, he's good enough. Virgil will need some rest and we're going to play 60-some games next year; there are plenty of games to go around. We are champions of Europe, coming off the third-highest points total in a PL season. We have the money and the cachet right now, and the opportunity to cement our back line for the foreseeable future. I realize it's not 100% up to us but how hard a sell could it be, especially considering he's VvD's international teammate and CB partner.
  2. Yeah, that was atrocious goalkeeping but whatever.
  3. So what you're saying is that aside from the two tendon-related injuries that have cost him the better part of two years and 67 matches, he's only had one major injury that cost him 30 games and it was a really unlucky contact injury. Got it. We all want Joe Gomez to be our starting CB for the next decade. But the guy has yet to have a season at LFC where he hasn't missed significant chunks of the season. Call it unlucky if you want but either way we have to have a contingency plan in case his, um, terrible luck continues.
  4. We won't shatter our wage structure to sign a 19-year old center back, but I do think it'd be good to have someone capable of stepping in if/when VvD needs some rest or picks up a knock. Didn't happen this year and he's far from a sick note, but he has had seasons where he missed significant stretches. As much as we all love Joemez, his injury record is terrible. And we know what happens when Matip or Lovren are expected to be the leader of the defense.
  5. I'm feeling Warren-Mayor Pete but I'd happily take a Warren-Beto, if only to energize the Texas vote. (Not sure that would actually happen or not, but it could have some ripple effects down ticket.)
  6. What, you don't like filling out 8 survey questions before reading "You'll Never Believe Who Took the #15 Shirt From Daniel Sturridge!" articles?
  7. You know an impressive amount about Maine politics.
  8. I thought Hays did a good job pushing back on what will certainly be the most common criticisms/questions of her plans – 1.) how will she pay for all of this and 2.) what's the point as long as that piece of shit Mitch McConnell is Sen. Majority Leader? Warren did a terrific job answering those questions and I have a hard time buying the argument that she can't win over the Obama > Trump voters. She is easily the most passionate candidate with the most well thought-out policy. I am going to work my ass off to help her win the nomination.
  9. Until now I never knew her full story. Pretty damn incredible. Everyone should watch/listen to at least the first 8 minutes.
  10. Oh hell yeah. Thanks for the heads up.
  11. I still think he could've been used as a late game sub more often, playing further up the field with fewer defensive responsibilities. He has an absolute cannon of a left foot and speed to burn but that Spud McKenzie dog in the photo I posted had a better footballing brain than our beloved Spanish doofus. Wish him the best. He was indeed a world class knucklehead.
  12. Feel like all this talk about Sturridge has given short shrift to the one, the only, Alberto M.
  13. Definitely positioned for the camera but I don't recognize the book...
  14. Never at any point did I feel nervous – until the Eriksen free kick. Tottenham had absolutely no threat whatsoever until very late and we were up to the task. Then Origi scored and it was curtains.
  15. Club World Cup is switching to bi-annually, I believe, so it's not happening this year. And yes, it's a dumb FIFA money grab. (Though admittedly I kind of enjoyed watching us play Sao Paolo 2005).
  16. As ridiculous as it might sound, I would be less than shocked to see us to sign Mbappe this summer. We were in for him a few seasons ago, ready and willing to spend the requisite cash, but he didn't want to leave France. We were also not nearly at the level then as we are now. He's a couple years older and we've played in back to back CL finals, playing some of the best football on the planet. We have cash to spend and don't need to make a ton of signings, but rather just need one or two world class talents. Not 100% that he leaves PSG this summer but I think he might be itching for a new challenge, and if he leaves, we will be major players.
  17. Congrats Aggie. Great run and a great season. Fuck everything College Station.
