  1. Don't we have a deficit? These "savings" aren't going to result in a surplus. And aren't they going to have a big tax cut anyway?
  2. Oh boy. For the third time we get to be handed a wrecked economy and then get blamed for it.
  3. How does that raise one trillion in revenue?
  4. Well because of puberty. But maybe they shouldn't. Fortunately very few of us will have to make a hard decision like that. And that sounds like something for the parents and a medical professional to decide. But I guess if we were to compromise I could see doing puberty blockers until 18 if that the parents and a medical professional decide is best for the child's health. Then the child can consent. But I don't have a trans kid so I don't know exactly how this works.
  5. Yeah he was lying. I knew it and many others did. But when I talked about it I was fear mongering apparently. And look it's all happening. Awesome.
  6. Well there is certainly many more immediate concerns to be worried about.
  7. God I hope not. But I can't know the future. It isn't like a third term hasn't been mentioned. Oh absolutely.
  8. Can't disagree. Biden screwed that up. He should have announced in 2021 he was only going to serve one term. I mean he all but said it all through the 2020 election and I voted for him on that understanding. All very infuriating. We should have had another full Primary. But nothing I didn't spend all 2023 and 2024 bitching about.
  9. People want everything to work and be taken care of by somebody else. Having to constantly be doing elections and having debates on what is the best way to get things to work is exhausting and unpleasant. But there does not really exist a benevolent dictatorship. No easy way to a fair and just society.
  10. See this is reasoning I find very compelling. You often don't think of things like this until you hear from people who have to live it.
  11. I think we should have a full open primary and let the voters decide. They have chosen white men in the past. The anointing of the nominee is a bad idea. Both Bill Clinton and Obama won the nomination as underdogs. Right now I am more concerned that we have elections like in the good old days, but I hope that turns out to just be paranoia.
  12. As it turns out, it doesn't. Athletes will cheat, lie, and steal in almost every manner to win but as it turns out even they have their limits.
  13. As I said if there is a science based reason I can accept that. I will say that when I first started hearing about this issue like...20 years ago or whenever...I was a little concerned that athletes are just so desperately competitive and so determined to win that male athletes would try to compete in women's sports just because they are so desperate to win. But we have never seen this really. I guess there are some things so extreme even the crazy competitive mind of the athlete won't do. Nice. And for like 98% of humanity that works great. But for whatever reason we have always had these trans people who that doesn't work for. And then the even small number of intersex people. I don't know. If people can't be allowed to change their gender legally, then maybe there should be an option to just leave it blank.
  14. I disagree to an extent. There are sports that are segregated for no damn good reason at all. Like archery or figure skating or the balance beam in gymnastics and shit. A sport can and should regulate itself and determine if your sex gives you some kind of unfair advantage or not. When that trans swimmer won some events (though not all of them, she did lose some events) the governing swimming body ruled people who went through puberty as a male could not compete in swimming and sure. If there is a scientific reason backed by evidence, gotcha. Just banning everybody from considering anything is too heavy handed. Sports is pretty fucking sexist man. Sure men have an advantage but people way overstate it and in many cases it seems counter productive. I mean the reason most of us play sports is to learn team work and other social values, not to win the Super Bowl someday. But how often outside of sports are we working in a gender segregated environment? Hardly ever. It seems more socially productive to encourage sports to be co-ed whenever reasonable. But that is another issue and besides, this whole trans sports thing really only impacts a tiny number of people. Hardly a big deal. And I don't get the legal documentation at all. People can change their name, right? Why not their gender? What difference does it make? Besides if somebody is walking around being called a man's name and looking like a man in every respect it just creates confusion if then they are legally identified as a woman.
  15. This guy seems reasonable on some issues. Besides it feels productive to lay out my thoughts on these topics.
  16. Sure. A careful review of every expense and cutting things that are wasteful is a great thing. I am certainly all for any government audit. Particularly when a new administration takes over with different priorities. But they are moving way too fast to be doing that. And being done by people without oversight by anybody and by a guy who only got his position because he bribed the President. Also one of the government's biggest contractors. Musk should have been approved by Congress and had divested himself from all government contracts before taking this role. And generally this needs to be done with Congress involved as they are supposed to ultimately decide how money is spent. Basically the way it is being done couldn't be more corrupt. And it seems pointless as we should be working to eliminate the deficit and pay off the debt, yet it seems any savings will be washed away in another unaffordable and giant tax cut that will continue the death march of our government. I hope I am wrong on that one.
  17. I guess we just needed a politician to make autocratic decrees to solve all problems. Ultimately we will see how this issue gets resolved. I don't think it is solved at this point though. As for Biden, well I am generally against having major political leaders over 70. Call me ageist but I feel like this is a job for the middle aged. But I never voted for Biden except when he was going up against other 70 year olds.
  18. Yet he fired the people trying to address that as a "misappropriation of funds". But Trump made the price of eggs a big thing during the election, so seems reasonable enough to bitch about it.
  19. I thought the economy was the main thing his voters elected him for. But in any case, fair enough. A certain percentage of his voters have to turn against him for much to happen.
  20. I thought so, but apparently in this particular case it is a state thing. I guess that makes some sense as the New York metro area extends beyond the city boundaries.
  21. Well I will be delighted to be wrong. Maybe not Musk but his colleagues. But time to hand wring about that next year. The state government? The Feds don't enforce state laws.
  22. So how does Trump cancel state laws?
  23. What? That nickname makes him sound awesome. You suck at nicknaming Jeffries.
  24. I take it this is Adams repaying Trump for bailing him out?
  25. The funny part is I didn't even think Zelensky was insulting Trump, I thought he was trying to give Trump cover basically going "don't blame Trump! The Russians are lying to him! I will set him straight!" But it seems that was an unforgivable sin because the claws really came out once he said that.
