Non-political tariffs thread
Probably going to fuck up beef prices because we import feeder cattle from both to fill the gap with the smaller current herd and your Texas feedlots are more reliant on those cattle to keep the yards filled and need them to be cheaper because your feed is more expensive than it is up in the heart of the corn belt. We can expand the herd but biology makes it take a lot longer than pigs and chickens.

American Airlines flight 5342 (CRJ) collides with Army UH-60 at DCA.
I live next to an air guard/occasional air force base, and while you get used to it, they will run stuff of varying stripes much lower overhead than I'd like. Much less cross commercial traffic though which probably helps.

There had to be some passengers that glanced over and saw it coming without the ability to do anything.

American Airlines flight 5342 (CRJ) collides with Army UH-60 at DCA.
Apparently some the victims were family friends of my wife’s college roommates from rural Kansas who were on their way to visit their daughter in college

As a guy who doesn't know anything about ATC, where do we find the people for those jobs, do they come out of the military or elsewhere, because I can't imagine wanting the job where you can kill a bunch of people if you fuck up badly enough. Seeing prices go up and down in ag commodities is more than enough for me.

Wasn’t the November 2001 crash into a New York neighborhood pretty large? ETA that was 265 people

American Airlines flight 5342 (CRJ) collides with Army UH-60 at DCA.
As a non-pilot who knows nothing about flying, how hard is it to track other aircraft from the cockpit visually? (My Grandmas brother who was a retired Navy pilot was killed in a mid-air collision by Caddo Mills in December 95, and it’s my understanding that a student and instructor just flew right into him)

At least it sounds like they are pulling some survivors out of the Potomac

2021 - Is inflation finally back in the conversation?
Reminds me of a story my mom had from growing up. The city cousins would come out to the farm, and Uncle Norman had a Super 8 camera that he liked to film with. In the background of a days footage was cousin Ritchie chasing a chicken all day. The chicken eventually stroked out, and Grandma cooked it for the whole family. On additional sidenote, JBS is starting to back up cattle deliveries, so we will see if it's labor or bad margins doing it.

Wait until meat packing capacity degrades we get tight on grilling meat into spring/summer

Elon Musk: Nazi traitor piece of shit [Confirmed]
I’d say stall it on a busy rail crossing but the engineers don’t deserve that fireworks show

Elon Musk: Nazi traitor piece of shit [Confirmed]
After last year’s decline in sales numbers, I’m very interested to see how they go this year.

The Leopards Eating Faces and Unlubed Dildo of Consequences Thread
Cow/calf guys are making a killing right now and under normal circumstances we’d be expanding already because of a good year for feed production after the drought delayed it but the current tight supply after imports of Mexican feeders already got hurt by a screwfly outbreak squeezed stuff so much that my guys cashed out the heifers they were going breed at huge margins and continue delay things further.

If it gets further out of hand, it will. Always going to be a level of disease circulating in poultry and to a lesser extent hogs but I would expect a worse response now.
-
The Leopards Eating Faces and Unlubed Dildo of Consequences Thread
I’m just going to note there is already a perceptible wobble in the amount of cattle and hogs being processed by major packers over the past week. If that persists we won’t be far from noticeable shortages in red meat in stores.

Tell me about Nebraska
https://www.1011now.com/2025/01/15/jack-hoffman-passes-away-after-battle-with-brain-cancer/ On a sad note, the kid that had the feel good run in the Nebraska spring game back in 2013 passed away at 19 after his cancer returned.

Can we talk about Zuckerberg?
I'm finally writing off facebook, I hung around longer than I should off but I liked some niche photography grounds, and I liked to be connected to a few people that lived near my elderly grandmother so I had a way to send them to check on her if need. Now that she has passed that knocks the use case down more. Otherwise the people I liked interacting with already had quit or are elsewhere. I still use instagram a little mostly because I follow a number of artists that I like sending their drawings to my wife. I gave up twitter in October except for my work posting and I just go to my profile to post and don't look at the feed. I do like BlueSky so far.(By nature I'm a poster, besides here there are a few other boards I'm on covering various subjects)

Southern CA Fires- Extreme Santa Ana Winds
I live next to a lake and a air guard base and they do a bunch of helicopter training with the buckets over the trail I take my daily walk on, and it’s really something when they fly over a person with a loaded bucket at low altitude

Southern CA Fires- Extreme Santa Ana Winds
Do firefighters have a shot at getting this under control without significant help from a shift in weather?
