  1. Always a good idea to walk Calhoun to get to Trout with 2 on base.
  2. Yep. They were forced to angle it back from the lake.
  3. Not the CVC. Just overlays for Town Lake and Shoal Creek.
  4. What about it do you not like? I think it's a pretty creative design to accommodate the restrictions that site has. They had to angle away from both the river and Shoal Creek. Their buildable area on that lot was basically a skinny pyramid.
  5. Notice the inverted triangles on the SE corner? Those angled corners are a cool detail.
  6. I like it. Looks like something in Dubai. Kind of fat looking though Yeah, I'm not sure the rendering is tall enough. We've been hearing 589' which would be taller than the 360's spire.
  7. This is incorrect. I've been following this since it even got on the radar. They were considering a SW school. It was never agreed upon. The district's enrollment is dropping. Bowie's enrollment has finally stagnated a bit. It still isn't as big as it was pre-Akins. SE Austin is growing more rapidly than SW Austin. The Bowie zone is full of environmentally-protected areas that will never get built on. Also, much of the overcrowding came from Akins and Crockett kids transferring into Bowie. That has been curtailed the last couple of years. There's no longer any majority-to-minority transfers allowed (Hispanic kids going to a white Bowie). Half of LASA enrollment was made up of kids from south of the river. Most of those from Bowie and Austin High zones. LASA is now moving farther south and will be even closer, and allow twice the enrollment it did at LBJ. I could see even more Bowie kids transferring out, which will relieve overcrowding. Lastly, the entire Bowie campus is getting millions of dollars infused. Permanent capacity will be 2,900. Currently, it's ~2,450 and holds ~2,900 kids. Population projections see the Bowie zone topping off around 3,100 HS age kids in the next couple of years, then dropping back to around 2,900 again. Personally, I'd rather continue building upon what Bowie has created. They've had decent success in both academics and extracurricular activities. They're the strongest HS in AISD. Building another HS out there would have diluted them and likely created 2 average 5A high schools. As for the parking, yes it's a nightmare. Yes, the garage will cause a bottleneck for the students trying to leave. But they're also redesigning the traffic flow, and adding turn lanes onto Slaughter. We'll see how it works.
  8. I think I would have left Minor in for the 8th.
  9. This place has been on tap (thank you, thank you) for YEARS. They've finally started doing some work to it, and it looks like it'll be ready soon. This is half a mile south of Moontower Saloon, and 3/4 of a mile south of Indian Roller. All on the same side of Manchaca. Across from Moontower is supposed to be The Goodnight, an adult bowling alley. That's been in the works for awhile, but I haven't seen any progress online yet. Hopefully it's not a gutter ball. https://communityimpact.com/local-news/austin/southwest-austin/features/dining/2019/04/03/south-austin-beer-garden-will-open-this-spring/
  10. I've watched a few games this season on that firstrowsports or whatever site.
  11. 1st round opponent is a little murky at the moment. Winnipeg, St. Louis and Nashville all tied at 94. We'll play whichever team comes out of that #1, right?
  12. Convention Center expansion ideas from UT study: https://communityimpact.com/austin/central-austin/city-county/2019/03/29/new-austin-convention-center-expansion-report-envisions-the-venues-place-in-a-modernizing-downtown/
  13. I forgot to add the Ballet 1/2 block to the image above. That's always a possibility of getting a tower. Maybe incorporate a level or two for the Ballet to stay.
  14. But then it wouldn't be as tall. I want point towers!
  15. Was thinking about the potential that surrounds Republic Square. It could end up a forest of skyscrapers. Green = under construction (ZaZa) Blue = planned (6X, Republic, Hanover) Red = potential (USPS, Hobby, block west of court house, 1/4 block north of IBC Bank, garage south of court house)
  16. Ohhhhh man. It's about time. Something huge could replace Hobby. https://www.statesman.com/news/20190328/sale-plan-could-make-terrible-hobby-state-office-building-hot-property
  17. Bowie HS is getting a 3 story garage with 8 tennis courts on the roof. I believe it'll be just the 2nd garage on a HS campus in Texas (other is Highland Park). There's a reason they have to put the courts up there. They need to expand the campus, but are now under new impervious cover restrictions. That's why they bought the surrounding lots, but can't expand the existing impervious footprint. Athletics is getting a new 2-story building and gym. It's the building on the far right in that last pic. It's going on top of the old tennis courts and parking lot. But first they're addressing parking and courts to relocate the tennis teams. https://4.files.edl.io/0ca1/03/14/19/210053-1b8b6378-706e-479d-80a2-55c6811f93b4.pdf
  18. My expectations are always to win. I want the best path for that to happen.
  19. Then Golden State in the 2nd round. Jumping up to 4/5 to play Portland, and having Denver take the #1 seed is of course the best scenario.
