El Chupa is at least correct about one thing. White people from Europe (Christian, capitalist, supposed "freedom" seekers) enacted a genocide on Native Americans to colonize and seize a continent. Along with treaty after treaty being broken by the Christian-capitalists, the genocidal legacy has been devastating and the effects are complex and run deep. Emasculation, being one (which often produces the macho over-compensation seen here). If he is who he says he is.... then what he doesn't realize is how his consciousness and worldview have been largely colonized by the conquerors. Specifically, the ideology of the descendants of the conquerors. Via Fox, churches, online misinformation, echo chambers, etc.. An ideology which is now deeply fascist. Frankly, it's sad. I find myself feeling pity ... though I suspect he will trash this comment. (Yes, over the years traveling in the southwest, I have been on a few reservations and talked to 10-20 Native Americans about ideas, art, nature, politics, etc. It is always a massive learning experience for me and my girlfriend.)

Gotta love how history repeats.... For the zillion billionth time. We have a fascist who gazes into the mirror and sees a patriot. We have 100+ million in America: fascists who see patriots in their mirror. They also see patriots on Fox News, at their church, among like-minded friends, in social media circles. They are dangerous because patriotism is blinding. Total patriots cannot be reasoned with, they cannot be persuaded. They only be contained (or defeated if needed). Because of these fascists, I proudly state: I am not a patriot!

Nope. It's depressing that so many (former?) Conservatives/Republicans on this site do not want to grasp that the so-called "normies" have been getting radicalized for decades -- Reagan-Falwell-Moral Majority >>> Perot-United We Stand >>>Bush 2 >>> Tea Party >>> MAGA-GQP-Christian-fascism Are you sure about that? I am sure many would disagree. -- How about the hundreds of thousands (out of 1.2 million dead) who died from Covid needlessly because MAGA-Christian-Republicans would not wear masks during a deadly global pandemic? Dying by suffocating from within -- How about the families who have lost kids in school shootings and the MAGA Republicans stop any efforts to limit access to guns? Kids blown apart by AK 47s. -- How about women fleeing for their lives to exercise inherent reproductive rights? Some bleeding out and dying. -- How about the families torn apart at the border? The list goes on. Republicans-MAGA-GQP not merely performing. They were salivating to kill brown people after 9/11 and are now salivating to kill brown people at the border. They are implementing an idiot-world Christian-fascist-racist state.... a regime of violent hate and virulent stupidity. Trump will be gone some day, but these people and their beliefs will be here and they are dangerous. We are a few thousand votes away in key states from Project 2025 America.

Like Cruz and Paxton, Greg Abbott is a fascist lackey for Gilead in a racist Handmaid's Tale America. That's all he is. Fuck him.

FINAL 2024 CFB polls/rankings - Texas #3/ #4 /#3 (CFP/AP/Coaches)

This is 100% spot on! TLDR trigger: I had a major cardio scare in my 50s and now get checked every 6 months. Go get checked! I know, we are dudes and think we are immortal from our teens to our 50s or 60s. We procrastinate seeing docs, especially cardio. At least I did. I had my late 50s cardio scare and it freaked the fuck out of me! Long-time short distance runner (2-4 miles, 2-4 times in most weeks), hiker, and amateur tennis hack, I am generally fit, with same waist size as in grad school -- 31" waist for my 501s. No not a tiny dude, I'm 5'11, 160lbs. One random day a couple years ago, my heart suddenly had highly irregular rapid heart beat. Thought I was having a fucking heart attack. Went to ER, nurses and cardiologist ran all kinds of tests: blood, X-Ray, EKG. Learned it was not a heart attack, but Atrial Fibrillation. They injected me with a med and it stopped immediately. Cardiologist scheduled me for various tests in the following week. Echo cardiogram, more EKGs, etc. So far, the A-fib has NEVER happened again. Cardiologist says my heart looks/sounds damn good for my age. Whew!!!! Thinks the A-fib cause was stress/anxiety from career pressures. And I was dealing with some huge hassles for my projects. So I consciously work to de-stress all the time. De-stress my friends. There are no projects or career issues worth dying for needlessly. However, I have to carry a couple of tiny pills with me everywhere I go, in case it happens again. Feeling great. Even hiked Emery Peak in Big Bend National Park this summer, with 3000+ foot elevation gain. I see the cardiologist every 6 months to be sure! And it is a huge relief to walk out of his office ... and know my heart is doing okay. -
FINAL 2024 CFB polls/rankings - Texas #3/ #4 /#3 (CFP/AP/Coaches)

This assumes the Wikipedia page is more accurate than the actual UT all-time record page.... which I guess is possible. Or I missed 1 or 2 in my "quick" count at the Texas site. Also possible. As mentioned in my post, I was counting only regular season #1, not the end of year week for the 4 titles. I would have thought DKR had more than 26. I was surprised. And he let 2-3 titles slip away in 61, 62, 64. (Damn "cockroaches" as DKR famously said). In any event, I am pretty sure Surly posters are ready for more weeks at #1. And no SEC cockroaches! -

By my quick count at the UT all-time records page, UT has been ranked #1 in the regular season for 40 weeks. 2: DX Bible 26: Royal 9: Akers 3: Mack 1 (so far): Sark -- Let's hope Sark can increase this total. -

Spot on ... after 24 years (since 1960) of being one of the very top teams, with five undefeated seasons and 3 national titles, we were not too much above .500 till Mack arrived. Hard to believe UT has only been ranked #1 for 4 weeks since that fateful day in Fair Park 40 years ago. That is reason enough alone to want to annihilate the Sooners this year. -
Trump is an endless series of dog whistles for MAGA racists and idiots.
-
Anyone who knows anything about Hitler and racist-fascist propaganda ... knows that Trump is an American Hitler ... a fascist ready to seize total power.

This "debate" is complete madness and insanity. Kamala is not winning anything tonight. Trumps is going full lying macho bully.... And that moderator is a fucking media lightweight who normalizing the destruction of public discourse and reason. Kamala is just dragged down into the madness.
-
Amazing that fascist mass deportation is being legitimized by that lame ass moderator. And Kamala just ignores it. This is like Weimar America, pre-violent deportation and killing. It is literally the fascist playbook.
-
There is no way for Kamala to "win" this "debate." Facts, logic, and reason cannot win against literal fact-free, logic-free madness! It is a mistake to even be on the stage. Sanity can only deal with madness by containing it to the corridors of mental hospitals.
-
That this fascist lying deranged lunatic ... is on that stage ... as a presidential candidate ... and is supported by almost 50% of this country ... and has a chance to win ... and will overthrow the election if he doesn't ... attests to the intellectual free fall of half of America. This is not a debate. It's the future of America ... as half of America is that is generally sane must fend off the fascists and Christian lunatics and their medieval beliefs.

Let's be very clear. This will not be a "debate" in any accurate understanding of the term. This will be endless talking points and hot takes going past each other ... or put downs of each other, with Trump hurling insults. More importantly, it will be a counter to human reason and logic by treating an unhinged lying lunatic as someone concerned with empirical truth. Lulz. By agreeing to "debate" Trump, all Kamala and the Dems are doing is platforming and further legitimizing two things (among others): 1) Fascism and theocracy as reasonable political philosophies in a secular democracy. 2) Trump (the lying, deranged, lunatic, hypocrite, strongman, terminal narcissist) as being worthy of debate and intellectual respect. When he deserves none from any reasonable person. Reason and logic and evidence can never "win" against deranged lunacy -- which can only be contained. That's why we have mental hospitals.

RIP Edith Royal. No doubt, Royal was famous as a coach could get and Edith was the rock by his side. They tragically lost two kids to car accidents in 1970s. The final page is turned on one of the greatest coaching eras of any school... at any time ... in the history of college football. Edith was there for all of it. What follows is for the younger Longhorn fans here. I recall some of the latter part of Royal era as a little tyke, the rest I got from my long-deceased dad (UT alum also). The wishbone is my first memory of a UT offense. Royal and Texas won 4 of the VERY BIGGEST games of the 1960s. -- Shut down Heisman-winner Roger Staubach and Navy in the 1964 Cotton Bowl to finish 11-0 for first national title. Score was 28-6. This was when Navy still had top teams and Staubach was a media and fan favorite. MASSIVE national TV audience. Later in life, Staubach recounted that he was hit harder by the Texas defense than pretty much any time in the pros. -- Texas stuffed Broadway Joe Namath and Bear Bryant's Bama at the 1-yard line late in 4th quarter to win the 1965 Orange Bowl 21-17. Lergendary Tommy Nobis in on the tackle. It was the FIRST bowl game televised at night. MASSIVE national audience. -- Beat Arky 15-14 in the epic game to end the 1969 season. Game moved from mid-season to last game for all of college football that year, celebrating 100 years of college football. MASSIVE audience; no other games played that day. James Street/Randy Peschel heroics, plus Tom Campbell and Danny Lester with two killer INTs in 4th quarter to save and seal the game. Nixon in the house and declared UT national champs in Longhorn locker room. (Joe Paterno and Penn State pissed! Haha! Never gets old!) -- Beat Notre Dame a few weeks later in Cotton Bowl, as the Irish decide to start playing in post-season bowls. Again, a MASSIVE TV audience. More James Street (and Cotton Speyrer) heroics on 4th down late in the game, with another Tom Campbell INT to seal the win. -- Beginning in 1968, Wishbone revolutionized college football, which ESPN declared the most important offensive innovation of all-time. Run properly, that offense was a thing of beauty and power. There was no coach more famous than Darrell Royal in the 1960s. Some as famous, but none more. What a freaking era of UT football! (Despite the charges of Royal-UT being racist in the late 1960s). Because of all this Edith and Darrell met tons of famous, rich, and powerful people -- celebs, singers (like Willie), CEOs, presidents, and politicians. Royal and Edith were feted statewide by most media and UT fans.

James Street's 16 deserves to be retired. End of Story. DKR's criteria should be tweaked for Street. 20-0, beat Arky and Irish for national title. -- Against Arky, completed the 4th down long pass on what Beano Cook of ABC called the "play of the decade" for the 1960s. The greatest pass play in UT history in the second biggest game, exceeded only by 2006 Rose Bowl. -- Won title by engineering clutch drives to Beat Arky and ND (when ND was decided to join 20th century to play bowl games) on national TV with massive audiences. -- Ran the Wishbone like an artist, making it a thing of beauty and scoring machine that revolutionized college football offenses. -- Fielded phone calls from freaking Elvis.

I am sure this will make some or most people in Surly very happy … but I think the above image will be my last post for a good while. Plus, I am under no delusion my posts have any impact on anyone or anything. And I know no one really cares: But, starting next week, I will be out of town for 2-3 months working on a big art project with two other artists that got some modest funding. I really need to devote my time and energy to that project. Have a good summer. Hook'em. (Italics just for you aggie08)

Too bad we can’t ignore all the Christian Fascism/Theocracy that is destroying democracy and secular society.
-
You raise a valid point. We could be too far gone. But it is worth a shot. Nothing to lose. Here’s what I have directly seen. In my younger days at UT and elsewhere in America, I debated Bible-thumping Christians — from creationist students at the Free Speech Table on the West Mall … to PHD theologians. I learned they always wilt when you: — never concede any moral high ground they claim — never accept any alleged “facts" they claim — never accept any fallacies, BS nonsense — never let them deny any history (such at the Christian-led genocide across the three continents of the “New World” post Columbus). — never accept they have any proof for Genesis 1:1. — The list goes on…. Deep down, the theologians know they are sitting on a giant edifice of BS mythology and fact-free superstition. Not so much the run-of-the-mill Bible-thumper, though. And they are the most dangerous.

Agree. One key problem is the TV news anchors/hosts are TV personalities, first and foremost — not trained critical thinkers. TV anchors/hosts spend far more time on make-up, appearances, apparel, and TV speaking skills. So there is little time spent honing critical analysis skills or deep reading of any history, such as Naziism, to see the clear parallels to 2025 and Mein Kampf. And they sure as hell ain’t blaming anything on Christianity-Fascism running amok. The anchors are simply not informed enough or skilled enough, so all they can do is point out the obvious hypocrisies and little else. Plus, there are rules of softball questions, no confrontation, no serious challenges, etc. Meanwhile, for the Christian Fascists, the rules are being annihilated. The gloves are off for them, yet TV anchors still treat it like a friendly legit policy disagreements. That’s why they will never tell the Heritage Dude that he is fascist theocrat and favors the violent domination of society. Step one. You can never concede the moral high ground to Christian fascists on TV, or anywhere else. And you can never let them ignore their violent bloody history. Time’s up, time to play hardball, it is not 100% too late already. Questions that will never be posed in American mass/TV media: — I thought these up in five minutes, would make them more polished with time. Q. You stated you believe America is God’s Country and was ordained by God to be Christian nation. So that can only that mean your God approved of the mass murder of millions of Indigenous peoples by Christians after Columbus arrived. How is that not the case? Q. The first line in the First Amendment clearly stats there shall be no establishment of religion? Can you not comprehend that? Or are you just a liar and propagandist for imposing a violent theocracy? Q. How long have you been a fascist theocrat in love with guns, violence, and the brutal domination of women, immigrants, and gay people? Q. How many scientists, educators, and atheists will you throw in jail for disputing your ignorant anti-science policies? Q. History clearly suggests that mass deportations lead to mass killing. After all, the Christians murdered millions of Native Americans to steal the land that is America … and the Nazis murdered 6 million Jews in the name of the Aryan myth. When will MAGA start the violence and mass slaughter in the name of White Christian America? If an anchor asked these kinds of questions on national TV, the Christian MAGA outrage would be EPIC. The New York Times would denounce the host and network. The TV network would instantly capitulate, the host would be fired, and face death threats for years. Might be even be thrown in jail for blasphemy, because those laws are coming. Ain’t no company, CEO, or university leader in this country openly standing up to Christian Fascism and their BS propaganda. None. That’s why we are fucked big time.

Sadly, it will not matter who takes the lead for the Democrats. That’s because the Dems will never ever confront — in any serious way — the most broken and malignant segment of American consciousness, which is infecting politics and every aspect of culture. And that malignancy is Christian Fascism. Because they believe “God" has their back with a divine plan for America, they are empowered with arrogance and ignorance on epic scales, which fuels the racism, hatred, and complete idiocy and anti-science nonsense. Oh, sure, billionaires and corporate corruption are significant problems, but they are in second place. And the rich are often empowered by the same Christian fanatics, such as those that worship Trump. Dems will criticize the ultra rich, but not the ultra religious. As Catholics, AOC and Newsom ain’t taking on religion in any meaningful way. Instead, they and the Dems meekly complain about the political symptoms of Christian Fascism, not the disease. It’s like treating a broken leg with an Ace bandage and Bayer aspirin. Or like treating cancer with Advil or Codeine. Sure, the pain may be reduced and you’ll feel temporarily better, but ya still got a broken leg or cancer. As a consequence of the permanent free pass, the Christian Fascists realize no one in media or culture will stand up to them on any fundamental level. Hence, they are making a play for total power in a theocracy — and are on the verge of seizing it and backing it with violence. These aren’t fake Christians, as history has repeatedly shown. When they have a chance for total power, they’ll take it and impose it with vengeance.

Wow. Thanks for sharing. Your scenario is spot on. I was not aware of any of those plans for attacking cartels or Mexico. My suggestion of MAGA attacking Mexico just seemed like a logical deduction from Trump-MAGA racism and propaganda. There’s a lot of Surly posters and Americans who are in utter denial about how violent and bloody this country will be under a Trump-2025 Plan regime.
