  1. After heavy losses last year following the collapse of the crypto exchange FTX, Bitcoin racked up its best quarterly performance in two years, gaining more than 70 percent, and Ethereum was up more than 50 percent. The astounding rally occurred despite an intensifying legal and regulatory crackdown on some of the sector’s biggest trading firms, including Binance. Analysts think the crypto gains are mainly tied to hopes that the Fed will turn more dovish in the second half of the year.
  2. Agree with you; I was one of those who thought the "bottoming out" in January was just reality setting in and the new high water mark. Turns out I was wrong (I still think Tesla is vastly overvalued and will be compressed but my timing was off). That said, you can mock elmo and hate him and still acknowledge that his bread-and-butter business is more or less booming (financially/on paper) right now and that's supplementing and adding to any losses seen with his mishandling of Twitter.
  3. For all the news and noise of elmo's destruction of Twitter, Tesla is quietly having a great year, bouncing back from last year. Surprising to me as I figured the jig was up with Tesla. Maybe still is, just not yet:. I read somewhere they are up almost 80% I think this year, adding $200bn to Tesla market cap. I guess that's why elmo doesn't care about losing a measly $20 (or 44bn) on Twitter?
  4. Oil prices soar on a surprise OPEC Plus production cut. Brent crude was trading near a one-month high this morning after Saudi Arabia, Russia and their oil-producing allies said they would reduce output by roughly 1.2 million barrels per day. The White House criticized the decision, fearing it would lead to higher prices for motorists and a revenue windfall for Russia’s war efforts.
  5. Since we are posting comedy that cuts to the core of the issues:
  6. Oklahoma doesn't have sports betting? Or is the "we" Texas? I thought you were in Oklahoma hence my last post.
  7. Posting here because when talking about the business of Hollywood, you have to include Ari Emmanuel:
  8. Yea, exactly. I certainly don't begrudge them that pay-- if anything they might be underpaid with the crapshow they have to deal with (HISD, DISD, etc.). You are essentially a C-level employee with all the headaches of a non-profit and none of the upside of a private enterprise. God bless them.
  9. @Brisketexanpost is smack-on. Agree completely. That said, on your post, and as someone who has done a lot of consulting work for WM-- they are a mess of an organization who has grown through acquisition and at one point had one of the worst SG&A's in the G2k-- so I have no doubt they would have bled money to hire, train and then pay a 25 year old rookie $90k to drive a trash truck at one point. Certainly not today in this environment, though.
  10. Good post and I think you are seeing some of these changes in the early schools. At my kids school, their heaviest weighted grades of the quarter were always a project that included creating a ppt deck and presentation that shows a mastery of the project, along with a rubric that includes Q&A/handling objections. They are having to use Figma, Canva, Powerpoint, Adobe Illustrator, etc. (and this is elementary/middle school) which I think is fantastic versus rote multiple choice, plug and chug, exams. I introduced them to ChatGPT and they think it's the best thing since I showed them Ctrl+F to hunt for what they are looking for in a reading.
  11. If you are really that hard up for money I'll venmo/ship you $100 because I do agree you've been screwed and I feel for you and it sounds like you are a bit desperate (I could be wrong?).

  13. The yard and foundation of that house just screams "Memphis", so of course it's Pollard.
  14. And isn't football still pretty notoriously racist (which means probably homophobic as well)? I seem to remember viral headlines about black footballers being harassed strongly by fans pretty recently.
  15. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-03-31/netflix-restructures-film-group-as-it-scales-back-movie-output Netflix Inc. is restructuring its film group to make fewer movies each year and centralize decision-making, the company said Thursday. Netflix will combine units that produce small and midsize pictures, a change that will result in a handful of layoffs and the departure of two of its most experienced executives. Lisa Nishimura, who led Netflix into standup comedy and original documentaries, will depart after more than 15 years at the company. She is presently responsible for documentaries and smaller-budget films.
  16. They be like, you know Mike? Tall, dirty Mike, he be musty all the time?
  17. It's definitely worth consideration and discussion, as the New Yorker cited half a dozen researchers, sociologists and academics who follow such things which I linked for you to read if you care to, as this is how society evolves.
  18. This. But what do you do? You gotta overpay to get the guy back, I guess.
  19. I think the distinction is becoming more meaningful, as some of the sociologists and published scholars are saying in that article. It's sloppy (dare I say, lazy) for people like Brisket to say "American Christians are cruel and stupid and bad" when in reality, today there are distinctions that need to be made between Christian Nationalist, Christian, and a Christian who identifies as one due to heritage or social capital or culture versus one who is an active practitioner of the faith. From the article, more:
  20. You mean to tell me the guy who is anthropomorphic lion singing an old anthem on Sing 2 isn't motivated to create interesting and compelling new music? No. Wei.
