I either missed this in the news or had forgotten. a true holy shit.
On August 10, 2018, Richard B. Russell, a 29-year-old Horizon Air ground service agent, shocked the world when he stole a Bombardier Q400 aircraft from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Despite no formal pilot training, Russell managed to perform an incredible barrel roll with the plane, a move so impressive that even experienced pilots called it remarkable, especially for such a large aircraft. The stunt, captured on video, amazed many and added to the surreal nature of the event. During the flight, Russell talked with air traffic control, showing moments of humor and honesty while also revealing his struggles. Tragically, the flight ended when he crashed the plane into Ketron Island, taking his own life. The incident left people amazed by his aerial skills but also raised concerns about mental health and aviation security.
