  1. Is there anything in that article that doesn't appear to be simply factual? or are you asserting the forfeits didn't actually happen?
  2. 1.) No way the Chinese port runs as smooth as presented in the above video. Every single warehouse/logistics automation project I have ever encountered is a clusterfuck of workarounds that include WAY more labor, often high paid to deal with software, than presented in the sales pitch. I would love to hear any Surly real world experience anecdotes counter to that. 2.) Even if PO's were cut today and earth was being moved its decades to automate all US ports to the level of that video.
  3. Uber has reported net profit each quarter for the last year. Lyft had its 1st profitable quarter in Q2 24.(most recent report) I believe Uber and Lyft have had some sort of vehicle subsidy at certain points in time(i'm basing that on chit chat with Uber drivers), not sure on the value of those programs. The value proposition for Uber drivers is drive as much as you want when you want. I would say in my interactions with Uber drivers about 50% are happy with the deal and 50% are bitter/hate it.
  4. Everything else aside it is kind of pleasant to listen to a debate in mostly complete cogent sentences.
  5. If the NBA played with scabs it might actually be a watchable product
  6. Per John's son, the Emmy-nominated actor died of natural causes in Los Angeles back on Aug. 21.
  7. who advocated for this? PLUS toilet paper doesn't come from overseas.
  8. They can enforce a 90 day "cooling off period" where work has to resume. Mr Goldchains has said if Taft Hartley is invoked they will return but instruct members to slow down work.
  9. from your link The company continued to monitor weather conditions. When water began to cover the parking lot and the adjacent service road, and the plant lost power, employees were dismissed by management to return to their homes in time for them to escape the industrial park. At no time were employees told that they would be fired if they left the facility. For employees who were non-English speaking, bilingual employees were among the group of managers who delivered the message. What exactly does a union get done differently in this case? A no-work when it rains clause in a contract?
  10. lol, man of the people right there.
  11. IMPO the media is overestimating the willingness/ability of businesses to stockpile inventory given the realities coming out of the pandemic. They are also underestimating the amount of time it will take this to show up significantly in the consumers purchasing reality.
  12. I certainly intended to type precedent . A completely unpresidented mistake on my part.
  13. Go read this thread. Fain played hardball and was belligerent in the press. BTW the UAW is currently voting to strike at Stellantis. Now, Mr. Goldchain has certainly taken it to 11 and 2/3rds of ports not operating is a bigger pain point than auto industry. There is also the rail strike as recent president for labor getting their way.
  14. Joe walked the picket line in Detroit and said yesterday he, "doesn't believe in Taft-Hartley". They are who they told you they are. https://www.c-span.org/video/?538805-1/president-biden-speaks-reporters-dover-air-force-base 1:34
  15. His rhetoric and tone are not all much different than Fain and UAW. They got their demands so why wouldn't he put his dick on the table?
  16. Not so bold prediction. The keyboard longshoreman/labor relations expertise hot takes based solely on watching The Wire S2 are going to become exponentially unbearable as this drags on.
