  1. I love Tacoma, and would live there if I didn't work in Seattle. Although, with the light rail expansion, some of that will be mitigated. Wife lived in the Hilltop area near Stadium high school (10 Things I Hate About You) before we got married. The Stadium District has really developed... Food, pubs, coffee shops; and downtown has a great vibe with all the museums (near the UW extension). There's an area just beyond the Stadium District called the North End that has some great older houses overlooking the Sound. And a bit further north is Point Defiance, a huge park with great hiking trails, a replica fort/settlement, and a pretty cool zoo. Another nice area is University Place, right near the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. If you are OK commuting and want to be away from the urban core, Gig Harbor is just across the bridge. Let me know if I can be of any additional assistance.

    Surly wallet check

DL Primary CC Costco Card Health Ins Card Bank Card Work ID Chalmer's Big and Tall card. (It's a seven outlet chain here in the pacific northwest. They've got great stuff, but does me no good elsewhere)
  3. GREAT movie... Some of my kin were at Blair Mountain. First known case of the Air Force (Army Air Corps) dropping a bomb on US citizens on US soil. May have been the genesis of the word "redneck" as well, since the armed labor forces wore red bandanas to delineate themselves.
  4. I need to go to the eye doctor, I guess, since I can't see the pictures you've surely surly posted.

    Surly wallet check

Manufactured combination of elastic webbing... no problems for about 10 years or so now. Buddy of mine that's a mohel has a leather working hobby. He's got a wallet that turns into a suitcase when you rub it.
  6. According to FIL, there wasn't a discussion about "how", just "who". I guess George had some extra explosives from a previous project, and did some sort of calculation about "x amount blows up a stump, so 100x amount should take care of things".
  7. Right there with you... with the new LED projection bulbs, they're brighter at the start as well. When I walk the Wonder Dog in the neighborhood (very wooded, no streetlights), I appreciate people actually using their headlights to avoid hitting us (even with the dog's light up collar, it always feels like a 50/50 bet). But the bright lights are the worst... My solution is an EDC flashlight with "turbo" mode that I can flash for a second before returning to "walking the dog" brightness. Most folks get the drift and drop their lights (or the lights auto-correct as if it were another vehicle)... and if they don't, I can always switch to "strobe" mode (not directed towards their vehicle, just as a visual reminder that there are other people out here).
  8. I'm not gripping them/between them?
  9. The current version of Cindy Lou Who (or the actress) could totally get it...
  10. I've mentioned this before... My father in law worked at ODOT when this happened. The guy responsible for the 'removal' was literally the guy who was absent the day they discussed the problem. Great place for a picnic now though... They really should have a sushi place nearby.
  11. I grew up po'. No way in hell we could afford an "r", let alone another "o".
  12. Sitting in the media room watching a movie. Lights tuned exactly as they should be. Wife comes in, "looking for something" and turns the lights on. Doesn't find it ("why don't you look where it's supposed to be?" /tone). Leaves room, leaves lights on. Sigh. Pause movie and turn the lights off. Sit back down and resume film. Daughter enters the room, turns lights on. "Oh, I didn't think anyone was in here... Have you seen my (thing wife was looking for)?" "Nope. Your mom already looked in here. Have you looked where it's supposed to be?" Daughter rolls eyes, leaves room, leaves lights on. Sigh.
  13. Dude. It's like you've never contemplated the geological significance a tasty affordable beverage.
  14. Fun to watch Juno Temple do her Kevin McAllister impersonation in this last episode... Wonder how she'd have explained it if she'd shot Hamm's son? The death eater storyline is really curious... Creepy as hell
  15. Since there's no way I can compete with LawnBevo, I'll have to find a different way to impress the neighborhood soccer moms.
  16. I wasn't aware of the Branch Davidians having a Virginia chapter
  17. Right. I had to get up in the morning at ten o'clock at night, half an hour before I went to bed, drink a cup of sulphuric acid, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill, and pay mill owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our Dad and our mother would kill us, and dance about on our graves singing 'Hallelujah.'
  18. Don't know if this is worth posting here, but Metal Blade is having a pretty good vinyl sale.
  19. Velma. Fred and Wilma were several thousand years earlier.
