  1. Thanks for the updates and insights, all... The gig would be downtown, pretty close to the Iolani Palace and right on the Honolulu harbor. 'Preciate the recommendations about Hawaii on its own terms... I think that's a bit of a selling point, to be honest, since I tend to do pretty well finding a place and looking to connect/fit in without all the "what this needs is...." How I would manage that longer term, though, is up for debate. Another curveball is the possibility that the Mrs. would stay in the Northwest so the kiddo can graduate (doesn't do well with transitions). So, it could be an interesting two years- which makes the comments about making social connections a bit concerning. However, if I follow the sage advice given by other fine members of this esteemed community... I might be OK.
  2. We've covered Hawaii in a couple of places here already, including a relocation thread. So, I thought this might be the best place to add this... Interviewing for a gig in Honolulu, and would appreciate any insight that the hivemind might provide. I know it's expensive as hell, even in comparison to living in Seattle, and I'm not sure about the process of relocating everything across the ocean. But... it's a pretty good opportunity to work with someone I admire, and I'm obviously looking for another gig. So, Surly Kupunas... what wisdom do you have?
  3. Infuriating (but not surprising) thread:
  4. Give me 5 gorillas and two hippos and I'm good. ("What is 'Things Vic says at the gentleman's club'?")
  5. I disagree. But, in the spirit of reciprocity... I love Brandi Carlile, but the only Grammy win that fit for her yesterday was the victory in "Best Americana Album". I don't think her amazing talents and performances count as "rock", but looking at the other nominees across the "performance" and "song" over the past few years I obviously don't know what "rock" is anymore. (wanders aimlessly over to appropriate thread)
  6. Covers a ball gag pretty well either way
  7. Man... This story somehow gets even weirder.
  8. Chopper couldn't get close enough, so they put a swimmer in the water to get to the boat (bottom of the video). And then...
  9. Wonder if that bottom right was tossed frequently...
  10. Thread outlining the math involved... (it's not like she's able to do math by counting on her toes and such)

  17. That's a great campaign ad... simply amazing. It's too bad that he's swimming upstream yet again: How Sinema is gaming the system to beat back Gallego
  18. So their values and virtues are dependent on who the masses affirm... That seems to be the opposite of the "in the world, but not of the world" theological crap that many folks have been shoveling for years.
  19. Could have just dumped your meal into the toilet and cut out the middle man.
