  1. Yeah...I don't pay UTEP much attention in normal years and last I knew they were in that cluster of Texas schools who (along with Rice) were at or near the bottom of the 120 or however many FBS schools every year....I vaguely remembered hearing they hired Dimel whenever and thought they just didn't give a shit anymore. Hats off to him and the Miners; getting where they are now was no easy feat.
  2. People who idealize Gruden as the ultimate football genius don't know shit about football. Fucker is, and always has been, all hat and no cattle, but he has the same appeal Dennis Cowher did. Rust Belt dude, mean-mugging skills 10/10. Fuck, the dude's lifetime record is 117-112 but every time he's not in the NFL mouthbreathing boosters everywhere from here to Knoxville think he is just the cat to turn their ailing program around because it gives them a chub watching him glare at people on the field and then they can't help but furiously masturbate when they watch him break down film. He hasn't won a playoff game in the last nine full years he coached and only made it there twice. Basically he's Dennis Green, except Gruden who a lights-out D (provided to him by Tony Dungy and Monte Kiffin) to a Super Bowl win against a Raiders team quarterbacked by Rich Gannon. Twenty years ago... Shit, his career win percentage is almost identical to the third decimal point with old fuckface Mr 8-8 himself. (Fisher.512 - Gruden .509) This is the kind of thinking, at its extreme end, that prevents from taking a chance on a Jeff Traylor.
  3. This is why we suck, even to this day. Mack's last 12 recruiting classes, not including TEs who stuck at the position. (See below) So ever since 2005, we've been rushing guys in too soon, rarely able to redshirt anyone, ever. You can also that these guys, beside Hills, were not only not NFL material, but barely scout team on campus. Why TF was he handing out only two and three 'ships to the OL during all these years of perpetual suckage? How was his knack for signing only the biggest busts and headcases almost unerring? You can see a pattern in it. Early on, he was "I am only going to sign white dudes from the Hill Country up to Southlake." That didn't work so he was like, "Aw shit, I need Black dudes from Houston and Dallas." That didn't work either so then it was all East Texas all the time. Meanwhile there were good-to-great linemen from all of those places but none of whom signed with Mack. It was like when they signed their LOC with us something sapped their superpowers. Look at those last four years -- that was the slop Charlie had to work with with Tyrone Swoopes at QB. (Espinosa could play but of course his career was over 1.5 games in to Charlie's stint). What Charlie left Herman was marginally better, and maybe what Herman left Sark was a step up, minus a Connor Williams / Cosmi type. My point is not to compare the coaches except in the area of OL roster management and show how you just can't completely fail at it 12 years in a row without consequences that can last for at least four or five more years. AT LEAST FOUR OF FIVE MORE YEARS. And we really haven't even started that process yet; not if we are talking NC or even one side of an SEC championship game. One thing you could do is tailor an offense to a shitty line. That is what Stoops did when he first got started on his miles-long feast of bags of dicks in Norman....Blake left him a pretty shitty line so Stoops was all about draws and quick-hit passes and the MF won an NC without, but MEANWHILE, he was also recruiting studs who measured well and were eager and adept learners of the fine art of holding. Always with a solid two-deep, blue chips redshirting, better position coaching than what Mack was rolling out there....I mean, just look at this. 2003: Hills (TE), Ky. Thornton, Dallas Griffin 2004: C. Dockery, G. Dolan, Ulatoski, Ullman (TE) 2005: C. Hall, C. Tanner 2006: Webb, Burnette, Watts 2007: T. Allen, Huey, Hix, McGaskey 2008: Snow, Buchanan, Poehlman 2009: Walters, Ashcraft, P. Kelley, Porter 2010: Hopkins, Espinosa 2011: S. Flowers, Doyle, Hutchins, Cochran, Greenlea 2012: Estelle, Riser, D. Hawkins, Hughes 2013: D. James, Perkins, Raulerson, Hammad, D. Harrison 2014: Cuney, A. Anderson, E. Rodriguez
  4. Yeah 415 words is a lot for you knuckledraggers. HIRE TRAYLOR. HE FROM TEXAS. HE GOOD. HE PROVE IT NOW. HIS TEAM SMASH OURS. WE NOT SMART WHEN HIRE HERMAN AFTER COACH POTATO FAIL. WE NOT SMART TO HIRE SARK AFTER TURTLE TOM FAIL. SAFE CHOICE BAD CHOICE SOMETIMES. TEXAS NOT BOLD AS TEXAS SAY.
  5. So many retread names in these threads, always. Traylor has been the answer since before Herman. What does "We're Texas" even mean if we just follow the crowd and hire like everybody else does? Oh here's a bright shiny object who rode a hot QB to some big wins! Hire him! Oh, he sucks. Wait, here's a different bright shiny object who rode a hot QB to some big wins! Hire him! Well, he sucks too. Wait, here's another sort of bright and not as shiny object who the adults in the room think is a genius, but he's had personality issues and has enjoyed the most success as a coordinator for one of the all-time juggernauts of the sport....Eh, hire him, I guess... Jury is out.... But we've had a natural born dynastic HFC of the University of Texas right under our noses but the people in charge were too fucking cowardly to make that bold move. I've put it out there a few times over the years and been roundly abused by the "smart posters" on these boards whose only real answer as to why we haven't done this is "you're stupid" (directed at me) and "Texas just doesn't hire guys like that," because of his lack of his experience. Well, he has the experience now. He's shown that creating a HS dynasty in East Texas and maintaining it for 15 fucking years might equate to coaching acumen on the level of Tom Herman's or Charlie Strong's. He's nailed recruiting wherever he's been (relative to the prestige of the job) and he hails from the most vital region of our state, football-wise. And while he was here, he delivered the goods out of East Texas, unlike Herman, who most certainly did not lock down H-Town like his fraud-ass ice-grill mouth promised. I am not sure if UTSA is not better than us right fucking now. And what were the recruiting rankings of those classes he's working with there? Probably 50s at best. He gets his players to overachieve. For the better part of 20 years our recruits have made a mockery of the concept of recruiting rankings, period. I still think Sark could get us out of this rut but I sadly believe we missed out on hiring the next Darrell Royal because our AD and yes, our fanbase, are too unwilling to make or sign on to a bold move.
  6. "And you'll probably be getting fired again this year, but I won't."
  7. This thread cracks me up every year. If you believe the system is rigged, why do you keep coming back for this abuse every single season? I decided the NBA's officiating was corrupt in 1998 and I can count the number of games I've watched since then on one hand. I used to be a huge fan, but just seeing what a mockery the refs had made of the game was too much, so I bailed on it my late 20s so I would not stroke out by 40.
  8. Correction: Vince's heyday came about in spite of Mack doing Mack things.
  9. There is absolutely no good reason for this to be the case, but it is. I really, really wish we'd taken the bold move of elevating him to HC when we fired Strong.
  10. Here’s how to shut them all up: make it so Texas competes in international sports as its own nation, like Puerto Rico, or how all the composite parts of the UK compete on their own. As for football we could have a TFL whose winner takes on the NFL Champs. Teams everywhere, like five in DFW and Houston, three apiece in SA and Austin, and one more in smaller towns all the way down to San Angelo size. after a year or two of growing pains, this league would regularly dominate the NFL because we’re Texas. Even if we could only afford ten percent of what they’d get in the league, native born players would stay out of Texan pride and “Americans” would flock to play in our league because they are competitors and want to be the best.
  11. Pay $3 / month for MLB radio pass. Sync Sparks and Ford to every game. Quit harshing your vibe with stupid "objective" announcers.
  12. That's why it scares me as a game....It's so dark up there during night games. Everything, including the stadium, seems to be lit by torchlight. It reminds me of Lonesome Dove, when the herd made up to Wyoming, and Deets goes over to Gus and says, "What we doin' way up here, Cap'n? These ain't our people."
  13. Also signals weakness to our pack of carnivores
  14. Maybe Gruden will set aside his alpha male side and go all Bev Kearney and demand the league surrender all the Major Applewhites in these emails. It'd be kind of a bitch move, but what does he have to lose right now? i went in a Korean rub n' tug bar on Telephone Road one time. I can assure you that Kraft's chick would be about a seven in there, and they were all around that age. Maybe mama-san behind the bar was about five years older, but if you think you are going to find some China doll in those places, you are sadly mistaken. The women there defined the concept of rode hard and put away wet. Weird thing was there were youngish, not hideous dudes in there buying up $10 shots waiting for their turn with these chicks. A fetish, I suppose.
  15. oppositional defiance disorder = they finally found a fancy diagnosis for just being an asshole in general Yeah they win until we Texit. Checkmate yankee libtard.
  16. Yeah 23 and me says i am also a descendant King Niall of the 7 hostages....he is the Genghis Khan of Ireland -- there hundreds of thousands or maybe millions of. he should have been King Naill of the 7 thousand concubines.
  17. At first I thought coughing Uncle Rico had cancer...then i started to wonder if it was the covid, and half the cast would be on ventilators at show's end. csb/ Mike White's dad Mel White used to be a speechwriter for Jerry Falwell Sr and Pat Robertson. In 1995 he came out the closet and left fundagelicalism and the gop behind. Mike White really got a phone call like that but he was 25 or so. He himself is bi.
  18. "The national media expectation, the expectation for us to be a top-10 team, were wrong. So I guess we should all be critical of the media for picking us that high." mind-bottlingly Torbush on that quote. "i knew we sucked, but you believed in me like a bunch of morons. Advantage: me. Now get out of my way so i can maybe lead this team to the Goo Goo Cluster Bowl." "Oh, and FUPM."
  19. We were over the sort who came over with Normans and lorded it over all the O'Sheas and Finnegans. From out of the windows of upper floors of our walled manors, we would sip madeira and fine ports as we observed the quaint customs of the downstairs class, always out there reciting poetry, and jigging on the heath with their little flutes. This of course only took place when they were not fighting or engaged in the manufacture of their 23rd starving child. But of course we were also fuck-ups, or perhaps we would have stayed put. As the story goes, the last of our line to call Castle Taylor (County Galway) lost the title to house at the races, shipped out for Boston with his wife and young son (my ggg-grandfather). Mom and dad up and died, leaving the young un and orphan ate about eight. And soon enough he was forced in to labor at a watch factory, where he toiled along those very same Paddies and Colleens we'd been oppressing since around 1200. behold our faded grandeur... But in accord with my thesis here, and how we lost the house, these people were colossal fuck-ups. The sister of Irish literary revivalist Lady Gregory had the misfortune of marrying into our family. "Castle Taylor has long been a bent house," she confided to her diary.
  20. You are nicer than me. I do want him to die. I want there to be real consequences for the hateful shit he has done. Fuck this guy. He needs to find out. Well, and there is that whole 'war criminal" thing that go him booted from the army. He's a POS seven ways from Sunday. Post of mine from last year:
  21. you can, though. College coaches don't have the option of tanking. It's win now, as much as possible every year. Our offensive line and to a lesser extent DBs -- shit almost everywhere -- have been fucked since Mack left. Strong fixed the QB thing and to a certain degree the DBS -- but he was having to throw them all out there as true freshmen and sophs, when in the glory days of this program we could redshirt Earl Fucking Thomas. We were that fucking stacked. Think about how far off that baseline we've been since then, and consider that is where your progam must be to compete at the level we expect. Same goes for the OL. While our pre VY lines weren't elite, they were very good and we were able to ease studs in slowly. Redshirt some, spot duty for others, and so on. Strong comes in and Mack left him a handful of decent players on d he had for one year, and nothing at all on offense after he lost the reasonably good QB Mack left him for not one but two fucking years. We all thought it smart of Strong not to burn Heard's shirt because we realized in year one how fucked we were with Mack's scraps....And then heard didn't work out. Buechele looked pretty good for a bit, got nailed in the rib/armpit area in the Cal game, and wasn't the same after with his deep balls. And in a reasonaby decent program left behind by a non-dickhead coach, Buechele would not have see the field in meaningful minutes until his third year in the program. That was the problem, come to think of it. We used to have a program. Mack left behind a roster.
  22. Not quite; Casey Hampton was missing was from route 66 and James Brown was hobbled. Mackovic left behind a motherlode and to his credit Mack built on it. Mack left behind garbage. The cupboard really was bare for Strong. He left it a little less bare for Herman and Herman left it a little less bare for Sark.
  23. This is one the most jawdroppingly amazing expressions of overreaction I have seen in what is now close to a quarter-century of hanging around these boards. Buffalo rallied in the second half from 32 down with their backup QB (who unlike Williams over Rattler, was not the better player) and absent their HOF RB Thurman Thomas. So let's say we knocked Williams and Kennedy Brooks out and were up 32 in the third quarter and Rattler was back out there sucking up the joint. And you know, or should know, that its harder to make up four-five score deficits in the NFL than college so I think you could conservatively add a touchdown. So yeah, if we were up 50-10 in the third quarter and the gooners were stuck with Rattler and absent Brooks, and we wound up losing 51-50, then you might have a fucking point.
