I'm fine with dogs. We're planning on getting one in the next few months after we finish some home remodeling. We won't be taking it with us to shops and restaurants and grocery stores, even "dog-friendly" ones.
But you're saying the solution to dogs being allowed at places I enjoy, that not long ago didn't have dogs, is for me to stop going to these places? I hardly feel my preferences are being catered to in that situation. And yes, if it became a thing where we can't enjoy that environment because of unruly dogs, obviously we'd find another restraurant.
A business can of course change their policies without consulting me, or anyone. If it works for them, and there are THAT many more happy customers to offset the loss of customers unhappy with the situation, then it's a smart business move.
I doubt they've surveyed their customers on this or have arrived at a clear consensus. They probably just said "Eh, we don't want to confront this problem. Let them stay."
But I admittedly -- in the tradition of surly -- have diverted this away some from the original issue.
HEB isn't claiming to be a "dog friendly" place. HEB's own policy: "At H-E-B, we are committed to the health and safety of our customers," the grocer told the Chronicle. "While pets are not permitted, service animals are welcome in our stores."
The dogs I see there are not service animals.
HEB just needs to apply their own policy.
