  1. RE: VA loans, if you have a disability rating of at least 10%, it can cap some of the closing cost fees. “You do not have to pay the fee if you are a: Veteran receiving VA compensation for a service-connected disability, OR Veteran who would be entitled to receive compensation for a service-connected disability if you did not receive retirement or active duty pay, OR Surviving spouse of a Veteran who died in service or from a service-connected disability” https://www.benefits.va.gov/HOMELOANS/purchaseco_loan_fee.asp

  4. I have tried Lore. I like tall tales and urban legends but he can’t pull it off. I Tried a couple times, but his voice sounds like he’s using a robovoice to read written script. I started listening to movie crush by one of the stuff you should know guys. It’s mildly entertaining.

  11. As a final to my original post, I did upgrade my receiver after all. I got a denon AVR-X2400H for $399 from Frys. More 4K HDMI inputs than I’ll ever need, WiFi and Bluetooth and a very easy to use interface. The Audessy auto adjustment was easy to run it came with a mic with a cable long enough to reach the couch. If anyone wants my pioneer VSX-1020k, I’ll get it to you for $50.
  12. Last year, I found three used avalons that were two years old at the toyota in south austin. Close to 40k miles. They were lease trade ins, all in great shape for a really good price. The salesman was trying to work in all the usual questions. I kept being vague. I ended up buying a honda so I didn't have to do the full wheel and deal thing with them. So I'll give my used honda experience. At the time I was considering nissan, honda and toyota. Carmax allowed me to test all the models I was interested in. and narrowed to a honda accord. I did the background and learned the different trim levels for the years you are willing to buy. Identify which ones you are okay with and which ones are non starters. For me it was a 2-4 year old car with under 40k miles. I crossed off the two base models. I then used the sites available and got an idea of prices. That gave me a range of prices based on the trim and year. I went to the howdy honda place in south austin (I live in pflugerville and work off lamar in austin) and asked what they had and their prices. I was fully prepared to leave if nothing was in range. I was going to have to drive by at least one other dealer on my way home so I wasn't going to be going out of my way. I already had a caravana listing that would work if they didn't have anything. I fully anticipated not buying a car. Then it happed. They had a model with less than 20k miles and their price was less than what I would have expected on KBB, they bought my truck for more than KBB. No haggling. If I was going to leave a number with anyone, I wouldn't do it on the first visit. Tell them you'll be back when you have a better idea of what is available around town. If they push, flatly tell them no. The last time you shopped for a car, salesman pestered you long after you were done shopping and that's not okay. Get their card. Use their number/email to negotiate from home. If you get to negotiating, use a burner number via google voice and/or email that you can delete when you are done dealing. As for the buying side, their salesman, err Finance Manager, tried to sell me a warranty "We do so many loans with your credit union, we have a warranty for cheaper than anyone else..."I told him "I was just sold on a car because it was reliable, are you telling me I am not buying a reliable car" and he started to respond and I cut him off. "No warranty. I want to leave" Anyway, I have given up on getting the best deal of all time. But I have also given up on trying to get the perfect car/truck.

    Shit My Kid Says

Our kindergartners woke up stoked because their school is hosting a dinosaur exhibit today. As we walk about to the car, they are walking like little T-Rex’s and then Boy1: lets talk like dinosaurs ROAR Boy2: ROAR Boy3: I’m going to be quiet because dinosaurs are extinct. #hesnotwrong
  21. I think they refer to that as the Automatic. Which yes, it uses a spring to open it but when you use a button to open its considered automatic. Assisted is like a kershaw blur (and many others) which have a thumb stud or flipper and when you start to open, the spring helps the action the rest of the way. I believe the "assisted opening" knives and their rapid deployment helped get "automatic knife" (push button) laws softened up or repealed.
  22. I didn’t know they made a spring assisted one. I’ve had other spring assisted knives and never had problems like that. The only buck I wanted and never got was a 112FG. Someday.
  23. Follow up: I Never got around to charcoal after this mistake. Lawn survived.
  24. There are a range of manufacturers in China making knives. Some at the direction of US companies like Spyderco, some are making cheap crap, and there are some higher end $300-500 knives from good designers or collaborating with makers around the world. Kizer has a broad lineup of $40-300 knives. We Knives, Rike, Ruike, Stedemon, etc all make some good stuff and some are unique (not copies). I find it hard to spend $300 on any knife much less a Chinese knife when there are great makers like chris Reeve at home. I happen to have a handful of Kizers with titanium handles, great steel and bearing pivots which MSRP $180-320. I would never have bought them at that price, but the quality is pretty close to American $300 knives. They are selling some good stuff at competitive prices. Then there are places like We knives who produce products for other companies under other names.
