Texas Recruiting Notes 2023: Strippers, Monkeys, and 5-Stars
victory88 replied to Machinator's topic in 🤫$9.95🤫
So we recruit Jordan Matthews from the start and make him a priority while other schools put him down on their list till he had verified track times yet he commits to a school that jumped in late. This is the new recruiting world with NIL. Literally nothing matters for the most past outside of what you have to offer from a monetary standpoint. We benefited with Kirkland in the same manner and other recruits. This should motivate the staff to put forward the best offers to elite prospects even if we are late to the party. I guess this is sort of happening with Damien Wilson -
I'm mentally prepared for our QB situation to fully suck. Ewers is supposed to be a generational talent but the dude hasn't played a meaningful down of football in 2 years and it's quite the jump from South Lake to facing Bama in game 2 of your career. I'm not sure what to think of his time at Ohio State. It's not like camp reports from the buckeyes were glowing of his talent level and he didn't exactly beat out the back ups either. I know he walked in enrolling early with no knowledge of the playbook but I was hoping to hear of some substance of his talent and performance from his time there. I know spring is hard to judge but he seemed to throw a ton of interceptions and has done so through 1 week of fall camp as well. If Card is playing better, you start him as much as I hate typing that because I've already seen him shit himself in games and show the worst body language and leadership from a QB in a long time. With that said, scrimmage 2 is where we always see the offense dominate the defense, yada yada yada. At some point, he's going to have to show he's better than Hudson Card. If not, a lot of people will be wrong about him and his hype.

I doubt Hall knows more than 5 plays from the playbook. Inconsistent hands, poor attitude, and thought he was entitled to a starting position. I’d rather this staff out their energy into Red and Thompson.
-
And we’re relying on Whittington and Omerie to fill in starting positions, two guys that can never stay healthy.
-
Maybe Billingsley saw what a moron Bill O’Brien is and wanted out immediately…

It seems that every DC here seems to want to force their schemes whether complicated or not on our players. It seems that our best defenses generally stem from really simplifying and dumbing down the concepts and letting them just be athletes. This defense still has blue chip athletes at every spot. When things get tough, I really don't understand why we don't just go to 4-2-5- or 4-3-4 and put your best 11 out there. Keep it simple and let them attack the ball. This method may not make us look like UGA or BAMA, but I'm sure it will help us avoid letting Kansas punk us at home and drop 50 on us with walk-ons. The only ones that really did this were Muschamp, Greg Robinson, and Chris Ash. Not keeping Ash was probably a very stupid move from a continuity stand point and seeing improvement during his year here. I would much rather have Ash and Hutzler over PK and Choate.

Chip Brown is a piece of shit that reports for clicks. Whether the shit about Hall and Billingsley is true or not, you let the coaches handle it and report it later in the season or after the season rather than writing unverified info 2 days into fall camp. He should be cut off from having any access to any practices and media sessions.

Sark also is probably one of the most likable coaches out there. Every coach he’s been under whether it’s Pete Carrol, Saban or people he’s coached with have respect for him and genuinely seem to like him. A lot easier to hire a nice likable person compared to an asshole like Herman. I’d be shocked if he landed a blue blood job like Sark again.
-
Tom wasn’t and isn’t a terrible coach. He’s had better success as head coach with his success at UH and winning a sugar bowl at Texas along with winning bowl games every year than most Power 5 coaches. Is he an elite coach, definitely not but he’ll forsure land a gig when his buyout runs out. The problem with Herman is that he is a narcissist asshole that nobody likes. His locker room almost revolted on him. Dude embarrassed the university multiple times with his stupid amateurish behavior. He wants to be like Urban Meyer and hung out with the likes of Zach Smith. I’d rather lose 5 games and be a laughing stock than suffer through his mediocre 7-8 win seasons and watching him act like a child asshole representing our university.

Gimme your DFW Metroplex "big night" go-to restaurants

Shit we probably were there at the same time. We got the ricotta cappelletti as well and the halibut. Both were fucking good but the cappelletti was some of the best fucking pasta I've eaten and I've been all over Italy. I really wanted to try their gnocchi but it wasn't on the menu that specific weekend. Homewood was very good, I plan to go back. We ended up going to the chocolate dessert place across the street for a quick coffee and they had live jazz music which was a great end to a the night. -
Checking out roots this weekend. Excited to try it!

Texas Recruiting Notes 2023: Strippers, Monkeys, and 5-Stars

That’s not it at all. Most people are probably not going to spend $200 on football players to get on a discord chat with them. If you want alumni involved on a large scale, there needs to be some sort of initiative through a legitimate platform like Texas Exes (not sure that’s within the rules but you get my drift) and I would say to have different tiers like burnt ends has so people can choose. There needs to some sort of return as well. We are on a message board and get interviews with the TEs through burnt ends. 99% of the alumni have probably never heard of surly horns so a discord chat for $200 was probably a stupid idea to begin with bc it’s not something the majority of people will spend money on. -

A lot of good posts in here. This is going to be a top 5 class with or without Hill. That would be two back to back top 5 classes. I also want to reiterate that Texas has done a great job in the portal and it’s probably where you are going to see bigger dollar amounts on players. Would you rather have Isiah Neyor or Evan Stewart? Denver Harris or Ryan Watts? Spending 1 mil plus is ridiculous on high school recruits when you can get players that have proven it on the college level through the portal that can contribute immediately. We’ve set up pancake factory and burnt ends. Our elite skill talent are driving lambos. Look at Xavier Worthy’s IG… he seems to be driving a new car every week. The guys that are good will be taken care of at a level other schools won’t be able to match. I could be wrong but I believe there is something in the works for the DL in the future and hopefully we can have a 50k baseline for every position group. This is going to take time but I think it will lead to a lot of recruiting success. What aggy is doing is unsustainable. They are looking at another 8 win season and getting that type of money lined up every year without winning isn’t going to happen. That money is coming from someone and most people I know don’t like to shell tens of thousands for football recruits unless there is some form of winning involved. -

I don’t think any of our current commits would be at risk of flipping to aggy. I think there are guys that we need to keep recruiting like Malik Muhammad and Derrick Williams that could flip to Bama and LSU respectively if we don’t win on the field. As far as uncommitted prospects, I would say Guillete and Toviano could easily end up at aggy. The random car break down is a pretty good indicator for how Guillete’s recruitment is going to play out if he shows up at aggy tomorrow. I’ve seen it play out too many times. The rumors of him preferring Texas but people in his circle wanting him to visit aggy should be enough data points for you to put together. On a brighter note, don’t stress. We’re going to get Baxter and Hale … two guys aggy are trying to get as well. -

Aggy is going to have 5 stars at almost every position on defense which is crazy. It’s Bama level recruiting. The same can be said of our offense. We got back to back #1 QBs two years in a row. Our WR, RB, and OL recruiting the last two years is on par with anyone in the country. Sark is going to have to show he can win on the field or we are going to need to come up with a pancake factory of sorts on the defensive side. If we can get Mathews and/or Toviano we have plenty of blue chips at DL and DB. Our problem is that we’ve recruited like ass at edge and LB and it shows on the field. What makes it worse is the entire defense is built around having strong edge and Lb play. PK and Choate are going to need to have to develop these guys bc neither are elite recruiters so it not like we can throw talented prospects in there and hope for better play. There is absolutely no pass rush on this team. We whiffed in the portal and we are relying now on a converted safety to be our answer to manufacturing pass rush. I expect this defense to looks average at best and marginally better than the absolute abortion they were last year. Fingers crossed we are putting up 50-60 points a game on offense. -

Not sure if it was CTJ or someone else that had said that Texas will not lose recruits to money and that this tactic doesn’t work with elite recruits. Whatever they throw at him, Texas will match or get close to I’m sure. I’m guessing the coaches have probably already relayed that to Hill. Hill is also very close to the DFW recruits and when you get a consensus building amongst recruits, it tends to create huge momentum, basically what aggy did last year. This year, we’ve got some of the most vocal guys in Cook and Muhammad to go along with Arch who everyone seems to want to play with. -
Yeah, he transferred to the university of prison.

Yup! I love it. Nice to be able to walk to every home and tell the kid and parent that not only do you get to live in Austin, get to go to a great academic university, get coached by one of the best OL coaches, but you get 200k minimum of you’re here 4 years in top of whatever other NIL opportunities you can create for yourself. All above board and legal. There’s not another school that can offer this. I think our OL recruiting is going to have a very high floor from here on out. We may not get the Banks and DJ Campbells every year but we will recruit with the best of them. -

That was a great listen. It was pretty easy to figure out who he was talking about. For those that didn't listen, he basically said that Jordan Addison isn't getting what he was promised. That this stuff will come out in the open in the future. Also implied pretty confidently that there is a program recruiting much higher than their norm and that it's going to result with locker room problems and transfers over the next year to two years. Assuming he's talking about aggy which it's pretty clear he is, he stated that this particular program promised recruits a bunch of ridiculous money and in their contracts, there are a bunch of stipulations for these players to actually get the money which was never relayed to them. For example, they only start getting payments if they are starting, or if they meet certain qualifications. Now if the player and family feels pissed about about being lied to, they are stating "well you signed the contract". Mentioned that it may not affect players that live near home but recruits that moved from OOS that had no interest in the program and simply were there for transactional reasons, will likely transfer. Makes sense of the rumors of Walter Nolan wanting out. It also falls in line with seeing how they are struggling to recruit big time right now. They went from signing the best class ever in the history of recruiting coming off of a 8-4 season to struggling to get recruits on campus a few months later. Josh Pate mentioned these recruits will talk to current players and it makes a lot more sense now why more guys are not falling for their "commit now or the offer is gone" pitch. He also mentioned that there are schools that are doing it the right way. That their pitch to players is that we aren't guaranteeing you anything but that we have the structure and resources in place for you to actually monetize on your name and build a brand if you come in and do the right things. Sounds pretty much like what Texas is doing. In addition, we see to be making an effort to create a baseline for all players to be payed and then creating opportunities for the ones that are producing to get the bigger dollar offers through all the opportunities in Austin. In summary, he basically said that a ton of coaches, GAs, and recruiting department personnel have told him about the bullshit at USC and aggy and how it's going to get exposed for the next few years. -

That has to be the funniest shit I’ve seen. Keep the photoshops coming. -
It’s going to be amazing when he gets a much deserved ratings bump. Gerry had mentioned that he was at the top of the board for NT for lot of SEC schools and Cristobal as well. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets put into the top 50 prospects at the next ratings release by ON3

Love this show and I thought this season was fantastic. I wish we had more than 8 episodes. I love just how fucked up Homelander is and they are slowly depicting him figuring out he can basically do whatever the fuck he wants with no consequences. I've been waiting for him to just go straight evil for entertainment purposes.
