I don't know much about Goulding but I do know that Bama fans are crazy if they think they will play the same type of defense as they did in the 2000s and early 2010s. The SEC is switching to the air-raid spread and is mimicking the Big 12. Naturally, it will be harder to play defense. In addition, Bama has done so as well and when you score more, you give the other team more possessions to score as well. Their next DC will still have similar issues. The old days of the SEC running the ball on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd down are gone... except for aggy and Jimbo's outdated offense.
-
I think others had mentioned it but I remember reading previously that Burton wants to get out of Texas and really has no interest staying home for college. Plenty of elite WRs in Texas for 2022. Sark just needs to show these players they can be developed and utilized here. We can circle back to Burton later if we show a great offense and if Ewers joins the fold. That will be hard to pass up.
-
Remember when we hired a fucking HS coach in Corby Meekins who had no business coaching a D1 program, much less a blue blood like Texas. Hey Strong and Herman... this is how you do it. Sark may fail here, but I'll never give him shit for his first coaching staff. These guys are best at their positions
-
Because Bama AD isn't stupid and knows we will keep upping the salaries since we have more money than any athletic department. They don't feel like getting into a bidding war with Texas when they can replace every coach except Saban and still get the same results. Aggy likes to talk about being the richest program in the SEC. We dwarf them. The worst thing that could have happened to other schools was Urban telling us no. Because now we will offer that money raised to get whichever assistants we damn well want. Urban can afford to say no to a godly amount of money but these other coaches would be stupid to refuse being the highest paid at their positions. Fuck it... offer Pruitt and Lupoi. Make them both say no.
-
I had posted this earlier. We will need to buy the best staff and we have the money to do it. Make every position the highest paid. We need to make Texas a destination job for assistants again.

Strip clubs are about to have booming business in Austin. With Banks' new salary, he can have multiple stripper sugar babies.
-
what the hell is the NCAA going to do?
-
I will be extremely underwhelmed if Coleman is retained. Move him to an analyst role or let him take another WR job. No one is hiring him away from us for a reason. There are many good WR coaches in the country. There is a reason we aren’t getting any top WRs in state. He sucks.
-
That would be a solid group. Gideon can be special teams coach and still help coach defense as well in a more general sense. Not sure what type of recruiter Goulding is. After seeing Orlando fuck up the LB room, we need someone that can evaluate and recruit there
-
At this point, it’s pretty obvious it’s going to be Goulding. He’s close to Bo Davis. Davis is the guy that recommended him to Saban. He probably knows he’s on his way out at Bama. If Davis is the D-line coach, probably because Goulding is the DC. Is this what it’s looking like right now? DC- Goulding DL- Davis LB- Huztler or unknown at this point. DB: Joeseph/Gideon. If this is what we end up with, I’ll give it a B- and be over underwhelmed after CDC saying he’s excited about the staff. We need a heavy hitter recruiter like Lupoi or Raymond on defense.
-
He was fired from the Falcons. He didn’t go on some bender and relapse. He went to Bama and by accounts was the best coordinator they have had there under Saban. I think we’re making too much of his battles. He was 33 and young when he made some poor choices. He’s 46, with a child, and seems to have a very good perspective about what he needs to do to get back to what his aspirations were. I also doubt our administration would hire him without vetting and investigating his history the last 5 years. By all account, the people that work with him, believe in him. There a reason the Bama coaches are possibly following him to Texas. They wouldn’t jeopardize their careers if he was showed those red flags. He’s also been at multiple big time programs so he knows what he’s walking into as far as pressure is concerned and probably has a very good support system with his wife, sponsors, and mentors.
-
Double... triple that shit. Make him not think twice about it.
-
We need to Casey to go off on ou and have a big year. If Ewers loved the horns growing up and has Texas family alumni... he’ll be watching our games this year. Need to show him that he doesn’t have to go to bum fuck Columbus to win. This is a complete new staff that has nothing to lose. Let’s see if Day can sustain a program more than 1-2 years. What happens when Urban’a staff and recruits leave over the course of the next few years. Let’s see him develop recruits and QBs that are his own. The pressure will be on ohio state to keep him. Sark has nothing to lose here, show him what he wants and it will be hard for him not to follow his heart.

We should not lose coordinators or positions coaches to any schools. It's time Texas reminds the college football world we have more money than anyone. If Bama, ND, or UGA is targeting Muschamp, offer him 3.5 mil (1 mil more than Venables) to be the highest paid DC in the country and tell him to give you an answer right then and there. If you want Jeff Banks, double his salary from Bama. Make him say no. We raised all of this money and got turned down by Urban. Well what's stopping us from buying the country's best coordinators, position coaches, and support staff? Let Sark manage the offense and let Will manage the defense. We're going to have to buy our way to success. I'm done with coaches that need to learn on the job. Get the best guys, period. If they say no, make them an offer they can't refuse. It's time we pull our dick out and show how big it is. Let's see if other athletic departments, boosters, and schools will shell out the money we will in a pandemic. Fuck those schools... let's fucking go... #allgasnobrakes
-
It's looking more and more like Sark had put together the offensive staff at Bama. If he's getting all of those guys to follow him, it means they believe in his system and they believe that their success is tied with Sark. That is a very positive sign. I also like that the names mentioned on offense have all worked together recently and this should be easy for Sark to implement his offense at Texas when he doesn't to take time to teach the coaches. On defense, this is where it gets a bit tricky. Not sure how Bo Davis, Raymond, Lupoi will work together. Those guys are badass recruiters. Honestly I saw we get those 3 and let Ash and Huztler stay on board and let those two coordinate the defense. Lupoi can be Co-DC. Huztler can be schematic coordinator or whatever title you want to create. I do think continuity is important. We've seen Ash make progress and I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to let him build on that and surround him with elite recruiters. Keep the defense simple. Get better athletes, line them up properly, and coach them fundamentals. Do that and we'll get enough stops to let our offense do their thing. If they want to bring in Odom, sure... he's a badass as well.
-
Sam was probably honest with recruits about his experience with Herman. That he's a prick moron narcissist. I don't blame him for giving players his honest feedback when they are looking for guidance. He's a mentor to a lot of these kids.
-
Agreed, Valai needs to go. Texas isn't a place for 1st year coaches to learn to be a position coach. We talk about having all this money, well do something about it. Go offer Corey Raymond to be the highest paid DB coach in the country and make him say no!

This is not the same Big 12 it was a few years back. Most of the teams used to be a variation of the air raid whether it was Leach, Briles, Kliff, Holgerson, or ou. The big 12 has now transformed into a more prostyle spread. The only real air raid team in the big 12 right now is ou. Maybe with Cumbie at Tech, they will implement the air raid there now. So two teams. Defense should be easier in this league. Guys like Orlando and Diaz failed here because those air raid teams found a weakness and exposed them. When every team runs a variation of an air raid attack and you can't stop it, that's how you end up with record setting stats for yards given up through the air and ground. We don't need exotic blitzes like Manny and Orlando loved to dial. We need to go back to what Muschamp did. Defense for us should be taking our elite athletes and forcing the offense to beat us. Keep it simple for them. Get bigger and stronger guys and keep them in a base/nickel formation. Build your defense to take away the run with a solid 4 man pass rush in throwing situations and use your corners to press. Force the QB to have to throw the ball while the WRs are trying to beat press coverage. This is essentially what Ash did and you can see the improvement week to week.
-
My only hope is that he sees his QB coach, his OC, and possible his OL coach all leave. He's also going to lose Najee Harris, Smith, Waddle and their TE to the draft. They will also lose their good OL for the draft. That's a lot of players being replaced and coaches being replaced. I know Saban is a machine and that roster is loaded with 5 stars, but a look at LSU should tell you that losing that many coaches and players is a recipe for a bad offense. I doubt he will leave Bama but if I was Sark, I pitch him this and ask him if he wants to be the QB in Sarks system or hope for the unknown.
-
I think he should get snaps there. But he's an absolute monster at DT. A dominant DT will always be the #1 priority in any good defense. Having to double team him is going to make it a lot easier for the ends to get a pass rush. It also makes it a lot easier for the LBs. I know we like to give a lot of credit to Ash and Huztler but switching to a 4 man front was probably the best this for our linebackers. It's a lot easier for them to clean up what the DL can't rather than relying on them to hit the right gaps like they would need to in a 3 man front. Between Collins, Coburn, and Sweat, there aren't going to be many teams that can handle those guys. Those guys are all around 325-350 pounds. No team should be able to run on us next year and that includes ou. This roster may not be Bama, tOSU, Clemson good... but this team should not lose more than 1-2 games next year. We have way more talent than the rest of the Big 12 and equal/better talent to ou. They simply need coaches that can put them in positions to succeed.
-
LOL, nope. DB coach, sure! DC... no thank you. We already tried that experiment and it failed miserably. Muschamp took that same defense and turned them into a top 5 squad the next year.

Thank you for starting this thread. I'm excited about actual discussions about the staff, recruiting, schemes, and this roster. QB: I'm really interested in how this plays out. Casey will want to be the starter and he will portal if Card beats him out or if Bryce Young follows Sark. Also curious if Sark looks around and trys to bring in a veteran transfer like Riley does every year. I really want to see what Casey can do but not sure how he fits into Sark's offense. RB: Easy decision. Give Bijan the damn ball and let RoJo spell him when he's tired. RoJo would also be good for short yardage downs with how violent he likes to run. Go sign LJ or drop a few bags on Wheaton's door step. Wheaton would be a very good change of pace back. We don't have any RBs on our roster with his 4.3 speed. WR: TO21, JWhitt, Moore, Dixon, Jake Smith (if he doesn't transfer). Lots of talent here but I would like for us to see who we can get from the transfer portal. This should be the easiest position to get an infusion of talent and speed with his offense. Won't take much to convince some good WRs at lower profile schools to come here. OL: I like Karic, Angilau, and Majors. I think we'll need 2 transfers for RG and RT. I would not depend on Kerstetter to come back at 100% after his injury and even if he does, he played terribly this year (even if it was out of position). I think bring in a seasoned RG and RT to shore up this line. Christian Jones needs more time. Tyler Johnson has it physically, not sure why he hasn't been able to put it together. He's got NFL size at guard. TE: Give Jared Wiley the damn ball and give Ja'Tavion Sanders reps here as well. DL: We'll need to find a edge rusher in the portal. Reese Leitao and Jett Bush should never see playing time. They both should be at a place like Baylor or UNT. Marquez Bimage is okay. He hasn't played in a year. I would build this line around Collins, Coburn, and Sweat. Ojomo is solid, Jacoby Jones is solid. Need to get an elite pass rusher. Get Ja'tavion Sanders on the field on defense as well. LB: Just keep developing these guys. Juwan Mitchell needs to go. Too many bone headed penalties and the dude shouldn't be allowed to be in the locker room with his emotional swings. Ford, Hullaby, Gbenda have shown promise. Bring in a seasoned LB to complement Overshown. Show Tyler Owens the feedback from scouts about Overshown and tell him if he has any hopes of playing in the league, he needs to put on 15-20 pounds and learn to play physical. Owens is a physical freak that needs to be coached up and put in the right position to succeed. He was a 5 star simply because he had an NFL body and speed in high school. We have to be able to start developing players like him if we want to compete with Bama. DB: This should be the easiest. Adimora, BJ Foster, Jamison, Jalen Green, Josh T, Jerrin T, Crawford and Barron. There is a lot of talent and high effort guys here. This doesn't even include Anthony Cook who will probably portal out. If you can get Corey Raymond, you do whatever you can to bring Stingley here. Sark has to know that year one is very important. If he wins 10+ games next year, he's going to have recruits line up to play for him. If he doesn't win, he will continue to see the elite guys go to other programs. We have to see results.
