  1. Wasn't sure where this actually fit, but here is as good a place any. Paper on economic warfare.
  2. I guess you forgot this coincidence that everyone already knew about? Disagree. Even admitting any potential US involvement implicates them far more as the country/scientists actually running the lab. Best case scenario there is China playing the role of Otter in Animal House. "You fucked up. You trusted us." Yeah it was centered in China. With a substantial focus in Wuhan, at minimum. Strange behavior to even downplay that at this point.
  3. Let's assume that you're correct. Unfortunately, there's a historic parallel where an Asian nation sees its access to vital resources severely restricted and then feels compelled to attack even in the face of very poor odds of long-term success. Japan, 1941, oil China, 2022-3, chips
  4. I've seen this story on the news more recently.
  5. ah, more of the context @BrickHorn was searching for
  6. What's kind of funny is assuming that it originated in a Chinese wet market and was thus due to cultural practices actually seems more racist than assuming it was due to Chinese and US government incompetence. One argument for lab leak is the work that came from the American side to stifle investigation or discussion of the theory. This guy, Fauci, Collins etc Lol there was a "bat lady" in the Coronavirus lab.
  7. China doesn't want to know, either way. The idea that a planet altering novel pathogen naturally surfaced in the same city as a poorly run institute for virology research would be the mother of all coincidences. Personally, I don't believe in coincidences of that magnitude. We'll probably never know. We do know that some very powerful people attempted to immediately discredit the lab leak theory for, reasons. Coincidences abound.
  8. Since higher, for longer is the mantra regarding rates... Now spending more on interest than our beloved military industrial complex. Ruh roh.
  9. The only way to stop Baby Hitler, or someone similar, was for England to sit out WW1. Germany pretty quickly wins a less consequential war. No Nazis in aftermath, no Bolshevik revolution. The 20th century looks a lot different.
  10. I didn't see any details of her proposal, but it's being put out there. 3-4 is the new 2 For sure. People are going to have trouble dialing back. Also, inflation generally causes people to raise their time preference. Shorter term thinking, which is less beneficial than long term thinking.
  11. One other cool thing that's happening is nostr. It's a decentralized social network. No token involved. The only currency involved is some people are using Bitcoin/LIghtning to build out features around it. I could see it expanding. I just thought I'd share since it's a unique approach to social media and the problems that come with centralized control of information. It also utilizes public/private key cryptography to verify accounts. Currently it's almost universally populated by bitcoiners. That isn't surprising since they're concerned with decentralization in general and many have been concerned with Elon's twitter direction. I use damus on IOS. Iris is a popular android app. Details below. https://nostr.how/ https://damus.io https://iris.to
  12. Good breakdown of the contents and implications.
  13. Some other data points that point to rates staying higher for longer. November 22nd, 2021 Powell reappointed https://www.npr.org/2021/11/22/1052741845/biden-reappoints-jerome-powell-as-federal-reserve November 20th, 2021 Powell drops transitory https://www.reuters.com/article/usa-fed-instant/feds-powell-floats-dropping-transitory-label-for-inflation-idUSKBN2IF1S0 This seems to have been his play for a while. Get the job security then he's emboldened to do whatever it takes to break the inflation.
  14. Setting up a lightning wallet like Muun is quicker than opening a checking account. Not difficult. Sending funds is incredibly easy. QR codes. Lightning network itself is being adopted. Public channel capacity up 5x in 2 years.
  15. Thanks for the tip. Hard to believe it can top Burnt Bean for best in SA area, but looks great.
  16. Also, forgot to mention Willie's. It's close by, off I35. If you're not familiar with it, it's similar to Hook Line and Sinker food wise, but bigger and also a bar/drinking spot. Kids generally like it.
  17. Garcia's-Tex Mex Thai Chef-very small, very good Kindling-nicer farm to table type place in Cibolo. If you're getting dinner without kids this is the one Noli's Vite. Original is in New Braunfels. Good italian although I havent tried the new location.
  18. I'm sorry I didn't realize you meant one of these inscriptions? no clue. I'm not really into them. Just learning some about them because they're affecting bitcoin. But the whole TherE's No iNtriNSic ValuE point is dumb. BTW at a new high for the month. 24K. Feel reasonably confident saying we bottomed around EoY.
  19. Brainard leaving Fed is likely another signal to that effect. Dove clashed with hawkish Powell? https://www.cnbc.com/2023/02/14/brainard-bernstein-tapped-for-top-white-house-economic-posts-as-biden-shakes-up-team.html
  20. Value is subjective, so claiming something has no intrinsic value is pointless. Many things have been used over time to facilitate trade or transfer value. Money evolves. https://nakamotoinstitute.org/shelling-out/
  21. I guess there's something to be said for making something permanent on the bitcoin blockchain. In the case of NFTs, evidently Eth code for NFTs just points you to a URL rather than having the image itself. A lot of this stuff is technically over my head, but thought I'd share as it's the new thing going on. This was a pretty good interview with the creator here. I listened to try to get a better understanding of what's going on and what's possible. https://www.podpage.com/citadeldispatch/cd91-ordinal-inscriptions-with-casey-rodarmor/ Does ordinal theory affect fungibility? - Bitcoin Stack Exchange
