  1. I agree but the testing wasn't the same in the beginning. It's a story of money, mostly. The other ppd game was Notre Dame at Wake Forest (UND outbreak)
  2. It's late Friday so time to update this stat. There are 16 games scheduled tomorrow between two Power 5 opponents. Assuming no last minute cancellations (pretty sure we have not seen a game called on less than 24 hours notice), that means by the end of Saturday night, 41 out of 43 matchups between two P5 teams will have been successfully played. (I know, I should probably start waiting til Sunday to update this)
  3. Disagree about national security crisis. Everyone home and abroad knows better decisions will be made without Trump being involved
  4. Who gives a shit what people are talking about, damn near 100 percent of voters know which way they're going. His path to victory is solely based on how much voter suppression or judicial fuckery they can get away with. The positive test likely saves us another agonizing debate and a bunch of stupid rallies televised live nationally. The down side being he will certainly use this to amplify his anti-mask, anti-testing, etc., thus making conditions even more dangerous for everyone.
  5. Notable that this thread had zero posts Sunday and Monday. I'm not gonna research this but there's a good chance the thread hasn't had two quiet days in 5+ months (if ever). I think that speaks to all conferences being committed for the fall, and also so much evidence that they are going to keep moving forward despite occasional lost games. Still, the question in the thread title will remain relevant until we get to selection day.
  6. Another "speaking of Florida" post... (Side note: some very nice scenery in here to distract you from the COVID-ing)
  7. Just to update what I posted last week, when talking only about games between two P5 teams: Already played: 8 of 9 scheduled (VT at UVa was ppd) This weekend: 17 of 18 appear to be on schedule (ND at Wake ppd) I know there is still time today for bad news, and around noon tomorrow tweets will start flying around like "OMG Vanderbilt has 27 players sitting out!". But if we wake up Sunday morning with 25 out of 27 power-5 matchups in the books, that's pretty far above a lot of people's expectations.
  8. USF statement doesn't say anyone caught COVID from Notre Dame, but implies that enough of their players were in close enough contact with ND players as to call off this (non-conference) game. Hopefully USF comes clean with its testing results over the next few days, it would be quite important to know if the virus can be transmitted during a game. Seems like yes but it hasn't been proven yet.
  9. This is grasping at anything (like many of my posts in this thread) but after today the ACC will have successfully played 8 of their 9 scheduled conference games. The Big 12 and SEC get going with conference play next week so we'll see how that goes. But so far all the postponements besides Va Tech-UVA have involved at least one non-P5 school. Those were the ones we all knew would have trouble testing and bubbling. (I know a handful of the postponements were due to COVID at P5)
  10. November 25 (day before Thanksgiving) is the official start date
  11. Yah, I now regret lumping Wolken in with Mandel, Thamel, etc. when talking about the good journalists last week. I do think he's done some solid columns, for example one about the importance of daily testing which ultimately proved to be right on the money. But since then he's gone way out on this limb about the medical expertise of the B1G/Pac, apparently not noticing that they were aggressively trying to find medical solutions to play ASAP. Wish he would go back to just antagonizing red meat SEC types, he's good at that
  12. It seems extreme if the guy returns multiple negative tests within the 14 day period. Maybe that is extremely unlikely with the new, highly accurate tests. But is anyone saying "7 days to evaluate mytocarditis"? It went from being one of the main hurdles to something that just needs a week to check out?
  13. Since no one in the country played a good non-conference game, an 8-1 or 9-0 Big Ten champ absolutely deserves a spot. This just eliminates the American champ even if they're undefeated. Big 12 champ (ahem) better have zero losses to be safe in the argument vs. SEC #2. But I honestly think the committee will go even harder for conference champs only, considering what all the leagues had to go through just to get the season going. Also LOL another ethical dilemma for the AP poll...can we jump the B1G guys back in right away, or wait until they've actually taken the field?
  14. Voted Yes, but my standard is simply: four teams that played 9+ games reach the CFP and play for the title Some bowls will fall by the wayside, possibly at the last minute. Some teams will just stop playing if none of their remaining games affect the bowls/playoffs. Some of these "postponed" games will never be played. But so far it looks like every other sporting venture in 2020: problems in the beginning, people freak out, games go on
  15. Eight college tourneys to be played at Disney to start season - another Rothstein bomb The numbers work out so they could use the same three venues as the NBA, splitting the events across two weekends (pre-Thanksgiving and then the normal Thanksgiving weekend schedule). Kansas (Champions + Wooden Legacy), Gonzaga (Jimmy V + Orlando Inv) and Michigan State (Champions + Orlando Inv) would be there the whole time. It's also leaked out that Battle 4 Atlantis (inc Duke) will be played at the "Pentagon" medical/sporting complex in South Dakota, and the Maui Invitational (inc Texas and UNC) will be in Asheville, N.C. Bunch of others at Mohegan Sun. Bubbles everywhere (these will NOT be very secure bubbles btw)
  16. I agreed with Collinsworth that Ramsey got the call because he sold it, which in live action made it look like a push off (but ridiculous on replay). I think they changed the rule so PI is no longer reviewable in any situation. Also surprised Cowboys fans weren't thrilled that McCarthy went for the 4th down, where Garrett would certainly have kicked. It was just not a great play call, or possibly Lamb ran the route too short. ETA: Oh, and the "cost us the game" crowd is doing same thing they did with Dez-caught-it...in all likelihood, Dallas would have kicked a short field goal to possibly force OT. No reason to assume the Rams wouldn't have won it anyway
  17. Lancaster, Pa. shooting so blatantly justified they released body cam footage right away. I wouldn't blame conspiracy theorists for suggesting Blue Lives people got together and said, "Y'all we need a textbook example where the cop isn't too blame. A guy charging out of his house with a huge knife? Yeah, that should work."

    Moody Center

You can really zoom in on that rendering. I like that we're beating KU, 78-73, with 0.0 on the clock but we're still hoisting a rub-it-in three-pointer out of a normal offensive set for some reason.
  19. I'm sure a bunch of folks here have flown, but I haven't seen much discussion, so here's a brief, boring report from my first flights since late February. Short trip, American from Philly to Charlotte and back, both flights fairly full. I paid for 1st class since it was work and the fare was what coach used to be for the same trip. The top line thought is, this is risky but if people follow the rules, it should work. I didn't see any blatant mask violations. Both airports are well equipped with plexiglass barriers, and the low level of flights creates lots of open gates to distance while you wait for boarding. What can't be controlled: people will bunch together in the TSA line, and again when it's time to board (the latter is kind of moot, because you'll be sharing a plane with them anyway). Kids will be kids, loud talkers will talk loud, salesman types will try to start conversations, humans have to use the bathroom sometimes. So a good deal of COVID avoidance is simply luck. I haven't read about plane outbreaks, but then again I don't think any effort is made to contact trace fliers. I'm probably driving anything under 8-9 hours for a while. Curious what other travelers here are thinking...
  20. Agree, and that would also be a major revelation if an outbreak passed from team to team during a game. We all know it could happen but there haven't been any proven examples. One study showed players spend less than 3 minutes total within breathing range of the opponents.
  21. Needed to add (NO POLITICS!!!) at the end, woulda won
  22. Wake Forest is selling cardboard fan cutouts for the season (up to $120), and they're putting the ones purchased so far on the field as the fan zone for GameDay. Wake is also hosting a drive-in viewing party across from the stadium which GameDay will incorporate into the show.
