  1. I'm with the Wild Turkey and Not Actually takes. The era depicted is right in my wheelhouse, so the nostalgic elements mixed with humor is probably enough to keep me watching. But they've lost the supernatural dread from Season 1
  2. Lots of great tackling here, obviously: TCU 10, Cal 7 Baylor 45, Vanderbilt 38 Washington State 28, Iowa State 26 Syracuse 34, West Virginia 18 Alabama 45, OU 34 OK State 38, Missouri 33 Texas 28, Georgia 21
  3. The "run it back" strategy most of us wanted carried a lot of risk. Team was like a rubber band stretched to the limit in terms of salary, injury and roster depth. Any little issue with one of the starters would have been catastrophic. Now it looks like they'll have some flexibility and can maybe power through the regular season closer to the top of the standings. We'll worry about playoff rotation later. And even though Butler was clearly given the alpha dog role late in playoff games, I suspect he really wanted to be the biggest name on his team all year round. Probably never intended to come back.
  4. That is so awesome and I can't believe Zach Smith didn't think of it first
  5. Marlins are 7-5 vs Phillies, 7-20 vs other NL East teams 😶
  6. I refuse to start a topic for The Hills: New Beginnings so I'll just quote this and say that trying to have Heidi & Spencer carry a show with zero Lauren Conrad participation is fucking disgraceful
  7. The serious answer, you'll want to go to E. College Ave and find something. Not as many students around as during the school year, so it will probably seem dead. The Waffle Shop is great for breakfast. I guess The Tavern for drinks at night...they closed the Rathskeller for some reason and I'm not sure if anything replaced it. Tailgate Bar & Grill (W. College Ave) used to be a Damon's and I think still looks like a Damon's , so that's not bad. Beautiful area regardless which way you drive in. Hopefully driving in daylight from either Pittsburgh or Harrisburgh, it can be tricky at night or in bad weather.
  8. Actually there IS something wrong with that
  9. From the same venue, another road win for St Louis:
  10. Awful sequence for the Phillies in SD after McCutcheon led off with a walk: Jean Segura gets ahead 2-0 but goes to a knee to chase a low pitch, which he pops up to 2B...Kinsler smartly sees Segura isn't running so he lets the ball drop and they easily force Segura/tag McCutcheon for a double play...McCutcheon suffers some type of non-contact knee injury and is out of the game
  11. Almost anyone hired by ESPN or sporting event fan fests lately: 21 Pilots, Imagine Dragons, Chainsmokers
  12. Fraley was a great reporter. Even his game stories had an edge, but he wasn't playing a character or anything (despite his love of pro wrestling). You could tell he had good sources but didn't suck up to them or take sides.
  13. Sometimes competing ideas can both be true: - Political opinions had zero impact on ESPN's falling ratings - Pitaro made a brilliant business decision in snuffing out the politics ESPN's whole brand was being tied to a handful of tweets from their talent. They have enough challenges staying profitable in this changing marketplace, so Pitaro nipped that one in the bud straight off. P.S. Whoever bitched about softball airing needs to watch a Florida State game with #48 pitching from CF camera
  14. I didn't laugh much at the finale, despite Rudd being such a good host. Most sketches were pretty paint-by-numbers, safe for a little chuckle. Still think it's a great, deep cast and they'll get better each year even if some people leave for whatever reason.
  15. From the SB Nation post above. He's just a polarizing, unusual player. I suspect if you had a league-wide re-draft of the whole NBA, most GMs would have him slotted mid 2nd round i.e. top 50 in the league. But I guess it's easy to just pluck the negatives and try to brand him as overrated, scrub, etc.
  16. Bizarre series with teams exchanging what should be soul-crushing blowouts, and each having won a road game. The Bucks have to be loving this, but I wouldn't be surprised if TOR-PHI rides the momentum to snatch at least a game at MIL next week.
  17. Embiid: I don't know what's wrong the last couple games, but he had a great year for the 64 games he played. He went over 30 minutes in 52 of those games, and had four 40+ minute games. He had to play to the end against some bad teams to ensure the Sixers got wins while the new guys adjusted to the system. Was dominant in the last three games vs. Brooklyn and at times during the current series. I wouldn't make to much of this week even if he gets punked again tonight Simmons: Is obviously not a typical guard. Extremely frustrating to have such a key player offer absolutely nothing on the offensive end. I think he's done all he can to defend Kawhi who has been superhuman - there's no way that hasn't detracted from his offense this series. Only a handful of teams have enough size/athleticism to take him out of the offense despite his lack of shooting. He terrorizes most defenses with his passing, penetration and speed. But the last two years in round two of the playoffs, he's been shut down. In short, I get that people have "process fatigue" hearing about these guys but they aren't as bad as the internet nor Bill Simmons would have you believe. Ben is 22, Joel is 24 - very few players that age are still getting minutes at all right now.
  18. Dawkins and his lawyer preening afterward basically saying, yeah the coaches did it but it's the right thing to do so we're not dishing any more specifics than you already got. Dawkins and Code guilty of bribery, NOT wire fraud Dawkins said some college coaches are paying players, "as they should be." "The guys who are are good people to me. I’m with them. I think they should be, that’s the right thing to do," he said. "If you’re making tens of millions of dollars … I (saw) Dabo Swinney got ($93 million over 10 years). There’s no way you should be able to go to sleep at night with (a nearly) $100 million-deal and your players make nothing. That’s b--llsh--.”
  19. The sneak corner was perfect, looked like he improvised it but I'd love to see the breakdown. Had to wait for the other game ball to roll out. Very fitting 4th goal considering how Barca played the whole second half mostly spectating
  20. They were aggressive on everyone and closed down the ball right away. He did have a bunch of assists and shot some FTs. I think the Sixers in the 4th felt they could get good looks from 3 and didn't run thru Embiid as much as usual. Almost worked, but then Jo wasn't really in the game and that was costly with his late misses
  21. They grown-ass-manned us in the 4th, couldn't even get off decent shots. Gasol and Ibaka did enough offensively. Sixers only plus 2 during Kawhi's 4th quarter rest, really even since they had the ball and immediately scored when he came in.
  22. Also means Brighton will need nothing from hosting City next week, not that it was much of a threat
  23. Gonna avoid ESPN for at least 24 hours after this game, I expect they'll devote 60 percent of their airtime to whether Ben Simmons should be suspended, jailed or deported for the slight elbow to Lowry's nuts after Lowry spilled him on the baseline
