  1. This was my response a few weeks back when it came up. Probably too late if you were in for the Eagles-Cowboys atrocity... The trendy food and drink right near there would be 13th Street, just 2-3 blocks from your hotel. El Vez, Barbuzzo, Sampan, Vedge, Charlie Was A Sinner are all in that region. We like a dive-ish place called Franky Bradley's that is just off 13th near Locust. In the past I've recommended McGillin's, also just off 13th near Chestnut and very close to Loews. It is a neat spot but kinda overtaken by young money douches the last couple years. For lunch and/or dinner a little cheaper but still good, look at Walnut Street on the block between 11th-12th. Moriarty's has great wings and is a fun spot. Destination Dogs has way too elaborate hot dogs but you can customize them down, or get something else. Oloroso is a little pricier but terrific tapas in that same block. Bareburger has great burgers including two meatless options. It will probably be cold, so all of the above is within 5-10 minute walk.
  2. I understand the motivation, but it has spread out of control. This week's Big 12 holds were mostly about where to place Bedlam vs. UT-Tech. You can't tell me the ratings for one or the other would be THAT different if Tech had pulled off the OU upset, or if we had beaten WVU. No need to wait to make the networks pick between those two games. And for Pac 12 and lower where ratings are garbage no matter what, there should never be a need for a hold.
  3. We got some problems Saric is lost, Fultz is not in a good spot to grow into any kind of role, and there isn't enough veteran presence to stabilize when shit goes wrong. How ironic that the moves Colangelo made last year (Belinelli, Ilyasova) are what is lacking this year. The East basically sucks so there should be playoffs again. But a major move will be needed in the offseason if not sooner, and the lottery days are over for now...
  4. Kansas holding out de Sousa because of "some new" information that came out in the FBI trial
  5. A 42 percent chance at the playoff after losing by 29 to a 3-3 team. And their best non-conf win is neutral site over TCU. The sad thing is I think that 42 percent number is probably right IF they win out. But they're kinda mediocre so I doubt they can pull that off.
  6. Probably lost in the madness, but didn't 6 minutes stoppage time seem excessive? I wasn't totally glued to the game but was expecting 3-4 minutes to be added.
  7. Loews is nice. The bar/restaurant in the lobby is way overpriced, no idea if it's any good. Brand new Iron Hill Brewery is in the next block on Market Street - their other locations are great so I assume this one is decent too. Independence Hall tours (15-20 mins) are free and lines probably won't be long in December. I think the Liberty Bell is overrated but it's there, you can see it from the outside to save time. Constitution Center is really well done, take your time if you do that one. There's a new Museum of the American Revolution, haven't been but seen mixed reviews so far. Feel free to ask more...as you can tell I'm pretty familiar with this area
  8. If KU has the kind of season they are expecting, the Self era should surge forward just as it has been recently. Recruits aren't reading Dan Wetzel and Adam Zagoria columns, and they have no idea who Mark Emmert is. People say "the NCAA" will get them but really that's just a coalition of old dudes who don't want to disrupt the machine any more than the fans do. These trials will probably have some impact at the school level, but nothing major that would impact the current pecking order.
  9. Gonna have a few days off so yeah they'll use Jansen
  10. Was wondering what a hail mary FG looks like. 4-5 guys running up to kick it at the same time?
  11. Thought we would have a "Kyler Murray will NEVER beat Texas thread by now" but I suppose there could still be December rematch
  12. They had a spy on McSorley at least during the 4th quarter, and definitely would have if it was empty backfield. I thought they should have thrown to one of the single-covered guys at the top, but as mentioned none of them even ran a pattern because they wanted the ol' negative yard screen. Such a waste.
  13. Franklin was atrocious, but PSU lost because of inexperience on defense imo. Taking crazy angles and blitzes not getting home. The screen to Dobbins from the 4 getting all the way out to the 42 was far worse than any play calling gaffe.
  14. That annoyed me more than anything in the tweet. Just lazy and stupid not to @ them, especially since they're his top performer
  15. The big SEC game will be on CBS, not that it matters because while GameDay prefers ABC/ESPN locations, nowadays they know they have to break ranks several times a year for every conference except the ACC. Texas-OU is probably top of their list assuming both win this week. As mentioned above, they have no problem moving the talent into the stadium for the last 30 minutes or whatever.

The crazy thing is, we wouldn't have tried to score again. They were at their own 38, assuming an incompletion we would have run three times into the pile and either punted or maybe tried to throw for a game-ending first down. That punt cost him about a minute of the clock, 10 yards worse field position and he lost those precious two timeouts. It was just dumb.

That punt on 4th and 4 with a couple minutes and two timeouts left...in decent field position too. I mean that is in the same league as some of the shit we saw from Strong and late-era Mack. Hope someone asked him about it postgame
  18. Perfect thread to share some of those stories from the good days. I've always felt just like gambling requires luck, falling into those superfun situations at a table, bar, etc. is also pretty much blind luck. You can't plan when/where the celebrity or bachelorettes are gonna stroll up to your table.
  19. Called them Wisconsin too, on a punt early in the game. It's almost enough to make me watch this crew every week to see if that's just their thing. Ohio State should shred PSU, I don't see them working out their many defensive issues in one week. And McSorley can be forced into mistakes.
  20. If Train is ever invited to the Super Bowl, and Maroon 5 is in that direction imo, I'm out on the NFL.
  21. The Phillies had a nice season to stay in it so long, including good mid-summer results against some really good teams. But the offense was never there, and the young pitchers (starters and bullpen) eventually wore down and were exposed. We have some bright spots, decent farm system and a lot of money to spend. The problem is we really only have one position player (Hoskins) who you can actually see in a playoff caliber lineup every day. Even signing a big free agent bat isn't going to be nearly enough to fix the offense. The Braves are way more balanced.
  22. Proud that I survived until the Monday games! Was really tempted to switch from DET to LAR at the last minute but I was counting on the Jets to out-pathetic the Lions, especially on the road. Good luck to the remainers
  23. Yeah, Ajayi has value but Tyreek is a monster. The Eagles also like to prove Sproles is capable of scoring goal-to-go rushing TDs, and when Wentz comes back he'll be able to sneak from the 1. I doubt Ajayi has many weeks like this.
  24. I don't think any team offered more than a 5th-6th rounder for Foles. He played fine, considering he had zero deep threats without Alshon, and for some reason Ertz played like shit. The interception wasn't a good throw but it was also a lucky bounce to be picked. Foles was in total control the second half, got the ball out quickly and ran the hurry-up offense when ATL was gassed. I'm obviously really happy how that game went. Eagles defense remains outstanding, the offense will only get better/healthier and it is amazing to have a coach who you don't spend the whole game questioning his decisions. That was a big win over a fellow NFC playoff contender.
  25. Javier's in the middle/far side of Aria casino floor was really good Mexican imo.
