  1. Note that the other thread indicates that Jalin Flores is coming back. I saw that on another forum too. Great news.
  2. Jared made a nice jump up from the last draft prospect ranking I saw. Good luck to him. He will be missed.
  3. I looked up the Rodriguez commit and he looks really good. Interestingly, he is ambidextrous and even has a glove that can be used either way. He is a switch hitter and good from both sides. He has played some first base and plays that left handed. Sounds like a really good pick up by Schloss.
  4. Good question. That statement said Gasparino was coming back to Austin to work on his hitting but did not elaborate. I don't know the rules about coaches interacting with players in the off-season when it comes to actual coaching. I would think he needs to tighten up and shorten that swing a bit. We had way too many guys this year with high numbers of strikeouts and Gasparino led the pack. Tulo needs to work with them on anticipating certain pitches, seeing the ball spin better to identify pitches, and doing a better job of protecting the plate with 2 strikes by swinging at close ones but not chasing balls way out of the strike zone. Many of them tend to chase pitches starting outside that wind up being curve balls so far outside that they are basically unhittable anyway. I know that big leaguers can have the same problem, but it seemed really prevalent among UT batters this year.
  5. Don't know if Liperfido's circus catch was posted here, but check it out. https://www.chron.com/sports/astros/article/astros-joey-loperfido-catch-twins-19558030.php https://www.mlb.com/video/luis-contreras-in-play-out-s-to-willi-castro
  6. Regarding Gasparino, his stats were posted above and they were bad. As stated by Torre "Probably for the best. He was hitting .083, 24 ABs, 12Ks, 1 HR. Needs to get in the cage with Tulo." I had checked on him a day or two before he was released and his stats were about what Torre posted.
  7. Cade Fisher had a 7.13 ERA this year. In 59.1 inning he gave up 67 hits (.282 batting average), 6 homeruns, 29 walks, and struck out 76. He hit 13 batters, only had 3 wild pitches, and no balks.
  8. Hope he does well. 2024 was not a good year for him.
  9. Thanks for posting that BOW.
  10. I wonder if Pudge weighed 155 when he was 17 or 18? He was a 200 pounder in the bigs.
  11. Don't know much about the Chilcutt kid from San Antonio that just decommitted, but he seems to be small. I saw 5" 8" and 5"9" and about 155-160 lbs. Not sure how recent that was. Pretty small for any player, particularly a catcher. I did a quick search and other than being listed on a couple of the baseball prep sites there is not much information. Perhaps not much of a loss.
  12. it is too bad we don't have a really good game 1/Friday starter this year. Or game 2. Or game 3.
  13. Newly released lineup has Brown playing. I had the same hopes you did. It is painful to watch Porter this year after he had such a good year last year.
  14. More inconsistency. The hitting was back to high strikeouts (10) and left 10 on base. They could not string things together. Ace was off tonight and his ERA has been steadily increasing in the last 6 weeks or so. He has been more consistent than LBJ, but that isn't saying much. Duplantier is probably not meant to pitch 4 innings and seems to be okay at 2 or possibly 3 innings. Boehm should have come in at least in the ninth, and possibly the eighth. I cringe when seeing Porter bat now. How can he gave fallen so far? It would have made a big difference if Witt had come back healthy and LBJ had pitched consistently even close to what he did last year. We can get lucky and win a regional in the right size park for our hitters but it sure seems to take a lot of consistency or excellence in pitching and hitting to win a super regional and do well in the CWS. We have had a hard time putting those things together and that is what it takes to make a long run in the post-season.
  15. I sat through a few of those sauna games at Colt Stadium as a little kid and then enjoyed the 72 degree year round weather in the Dome until I moved out of state in the early 80s for quite a while. My grandmother and a couple of aunts worked at the concession stands for years at colt stadium and the dome and we could get some freebies occasionally. In high school and college I went to see the Astros a lot and would call my grandmother to find out what stand she was working. The vendors then (maybe Aramark) tracked food and beverage sales by the number of cups sold and the number of buns sold. The workers brought in loaves of bread and their own cups so they could eat and drink for free. I would go to my grandmother's stand and either she or one of my aunts would make a burger or sandwich on their bread for me and load it up. I loved my grandma.
  16. I will do that. We have an autographed picture of Ernie somewhere. Years ago one of my employees met him at a diabetes fund raiser, got an autograph, and gave it to my son. I grew up in Houston and got to see him play a few times before he retired. I am old enough to have seen a lot of the greats that were his contemporaries. By the way, Ernie was born and raised in Texas.
  17. Thanks for the input guys. I don't usually follow TexasSports.com but have relied on using my google machine to check the various summer leagues and teams. I spent a whole day last year searching those leagues and teams so that I could track down most of the players that were in the summer leagues, including some of the incoming freshman. The websites for some of them are not particularly good; however it did allow to keep track of a lot of the players. Some of the Cape Cod teams broadcast their games live on the internet (but the feeds are not good). I saw Tanner pitch a couple of times last summer and he had shown no improvement at that point either.
  18. We have tickets for tonight, but with all the possible severe weather and 50 minutes of drive time each way we may settle in and watch the game on the big screen at home. Hopefully they cancel and schedule a double header and make Ernie happy.
  19. Thanks for the input on Ace and Pierce's comments from the radio interview. Hopefully the offense is in gear in case Hurley or LBJ are not on the game, or even Max. It would be great to see good consistent hitting and good consistent pitching for a whole series. Hook'em.
  20. Is Ace hurt? LBJ's conference ERA is near 9 and as discussed elsewhere his last three games have been pathetic as to ERA, hits, walks, HRs, etc.
  21. According to the UT stats page LBJ's season ERA is now 6.03 and his conference ERA is 8.58. In conference, teams are batting .327 against him and his WHIP is over 2. In his last 3 starts he has only made it through a total of 11.1 innings and has given up 19 hits, 13 earned runs, 7 walks, and 3 homeruns. That does not inspire confidence. Is Ace hurt? He has not been lights out either but has done a lot better than LBJ.
  22. How do you (or does one) find out where all of the different players will be in the summer? I don't recall that kind of information being published anywhere. I usually have to hunt with the google machine under each players name I am interested in and that takes a while.
