  1. If I were continuing this conversation, which I am not, I would say that is a valid point.
  2. You know, enabling an addict is dangerous behavior.
  3. If y'all are going to pretend that 98 and 99 don't count then I'm going to say the 2000 game doesn't count because they won the national championship. Or maybe I won't do that, because it's disingenuous bullshit and not germane to the point anyone was making when this conversation started. And Major started in 2000. So that makes him 2-1 against the Sooners, which is still better than Simms or any recent QB not named Colt McCoy. And with that, I am now actually, but for real this time, done with this argument.
  4. Seems fine for the most part. I would expect them to lean OSU for toss ups and they rightly point out several position groups that are toss ups. The only place I would really push back is at CB, but then I'm a Texas homer so I would. It jumps straight to the comments due to the #comments at the end of the link.
  5. Maybe I'm getting senile - which is a distinct possibility - but I believe that Major was QB1 against OU in 1998 and 1999. We won in 1998 and 1999. And now that's the last thing I'll say about this.
  6. If you can remember when it was, then it might be available here: https://web.archive.org/web/20150101000000*/shaggytexas.com If it was before 2015, which it probably would be, then we are SOL.
  7. I don't want to get into the whole Simms v. Applewhite thing, so this is the last comment I'll make. Simms sucked against OU. It is the one thing that holds me back from liking him as much as a lot of our less successful QBs.
  8. Clearly I don't know, but my guess would be that (1) he likes the situation there, (2) they are going to pay him a decent amount of money to stick around, (3) his pension is already vested so he doesn't have to worry about making a roster quite as much. Everyone that he's played for has commented on how smart he is and how well he understands X's and O's - could be that they like him in the room as an extra coach. Kind of like Keenum's role at Chicago this season. And/or maybe Cami Jo just doesn't feel like moving again.
  9. I think this is exactly what happened. It's not just that Texas is better at all position groups, I think every one of our starters is better than theirs, save for Caleb Downs. Bobby still hedging on Goosby is not what I was hoping to hear. At this point I do not expect him to play and will hope to be happily surprised. I appreciate you sticking your neck out in this thread and the conversation that you're generating. Good faith participation from opponents is great for the Board. That being said, the only clear advantage that OSU has on either side of the ball is WR. And Jeremiah Smith is an absolute freak and y'alls WR room deserves all the credit its getting. But OL is a push at best, TE is a push or only a slight advantage to OSU, our RB room is better even if by only a modest margin, and our QB is demonstrably more physically talented and experienced. Even if Sayin has a 5-star arm, he doesn't have Arch's legs or build and he has thrown what? 6 passes in live play? And that's even before we get to the defense, where I think we are better across the board save that one dude at safety. Day is a great coach and Hartline may be the best WR coach in CFB history, but otherwise I don't think y'all have any other advantages on us in terms of staff. OSU is a great program and I'm not saying this is a slam dunk for Texas. There are a lot of unknowns on both sides. But I am prone to pessimism and dooming, and even I like Texas' chances this weekend. I do not know this story and would very much like to hear it. Please keep this stupid bullshit in the Ewers thread.
  10. Yeah, the 2001 championship game was an interesting moment. Simms completely shitting the bed followed up Major orchestrating a near comeback was a vindication but it ultimately meant nothing. I would rather have been wrong and we win than be right and we lose. I will say that to this day, the second half of that game was one of the best "part of the crowd" experiences of my life. We were a slow moving wave of burnt orange that surged forward about 8 rows towards the field. Everyone was screaming, bouncing off each other, reacting to each play en masse. It felt electric. Sucks that we lost, but still a good memory.
  11. I don't necessarily disagree with your assessment of Ehlinger's talent or abilities as a QB, although it seems a little needlessly inflammatory (but I understand your tone based on the context here). Anyone who watched Sam with any kind of objectivity could see that he was more of a fullback who could throw the ball well enough rather than a top line QB. If someone is arguing that he had a great arm or processed things quickly...well, they don't know ball. But he was the best we had, and he played hard, and he played for a dumbass HC. We won a lot of games despite Herman because Ehlinger refused to turtle up. I think what most people who are fans of Ehlinger liked about him are intangible qualities - toughness, leadership, love of Texas. Even with all his flaws, I'm still a fan because he loves the school as much as I do, and it showed. It has little to do with his actual level of play. I think this image sums it up: Who was rating these guys as QBs? I love Swoopes because that poor bastard was an great TE that was forced to play QB because Strong had no idea what the fuck he was doing. But not because of anything he did under center. The Westlake honks are not quite a cult, but they do love them some Westlake boys and have a hard time seeing any flaws with those red and blue colored glasses. It would be like me demanding that Charlie Wright getting more playing time just because he went to AHS. I was a Major truther back in the day and even I never hated Simms. He was a solid QB and he played hard. Plus he played for Texas. I always told people that even if I preferred Major as QB1, that doesn't mean that I won't support the guy actually taking snaps. I swear there were Texas fans who wanted us to lose just so they could be right about Simms. Besides, my issue was with Brown who actually made the decision. The hate for him never made sense - it always seemed like it was based on the perception that he had everything handed to him because of who his dad was. Which is disconcertingly similar to how Aggies and Sooners talk about Manning these days. Weird how history seems to keep repeating itself.
  12. I think it’s possible you consume too much Texas sports media and have become a bit fatigued.
  13. Just another asshole in a long line of assholes that want to gain notoriety by being the Texas "fan" who is anti-Texas.
  14. I'm really looking forward to how pants-on-head retarded this thread is going to get around 3:00. Should be quite the show.
  15. Yes. True. The vast majority of us are both sane and positive, with only a few outliers.
  16. Look, @Hagbard Celine's heart is in the right place but he is also a madman. Don't read too much into it.
  17. The entire Buckeye mediasphere seems to be sleeping on him. I love it. Arch and Wingo are gonna take the top off that defense if they play us too tight.
  18. This has to be sarcasm. That had to have been sarcasm.
  19. There were people who were critical of Quinn who had reasonable takes. This isn't any kind of "own" on them because, as you point out, QB3 for the Dolphins is not exactly the peak of the NFL mountain. But there were people who were unreasonable in their hate for the guy. They claimed he wasn't an NFL QB. Now he is. So those people were wrong and can go fuck themselves.
