  1. Did you watch the game last year? The one where the QB couldn't pass and fumbled multiple times? He's that guy.
  2. It's Michael Hawkins Jr. I know our capacity to bitch and worry is unrivaled, but that guy should not worry anyone after last season.
  3. I hate that this is probably right. If he doesn't play, then the narrative is that they would have won with Mateer at QB. If he plays, they will spend the whole game talking about what a tough competitor he is for playing through an injury. If we win, it will be because Mateer wasn't 100%. If we lose, it will be that much worse. Fuck OU and all that. But this is why I would rather play a healthy team. It's not because I give a shit about Mateer or that portable methlab of a program. It's because it gives them and everyone else excuses to undervalue our win.

  5. To me, the weird thing about the t-shirt was that he wore it fishing. Does anyone actually wear a shirt that they like to go fishing? I almost exclusively wear trash shirts that I am happy to throw away - it's going to get blood, sunscreen, beer and whatever else all over it anyway. Someone gives me a free shirt for their tv station or business, that's a prime candidate. I'm sure Gundy is a conservative guy and surrounds himself with OAN types, but I never saw him wearing that shirt as some kind of endorsement.
  6. You pay closer attention to this stuff than I do, but I thought UTEP's game plan was completely different from OSU. It seemed like OSU played an honest box and kept the game plan pretty basic. In contrast, UTEP threw the kitchen sink at us with a lot of exotics and stunts. Either way, in both games we had guys running open - Arch just couldn't hit the throws. Part of what keeps me off the ledge about our OL play is the fact that they pass pro decently and, combined with his legs, Arch has enough time to do damage through the air.
  7. He was great at Minnesota State but I don't trust him to hire a competent staff.
  8. holy shit when she tried to pronounce "academic"
  9. Yeah, that's fair. It's probably too early to judge how good the DT room is this season. I'm just glad that it looks like we hit (to greater and lesser degrees) and all 4 transfers. I'm probably too hard on Broughton but man was he a frustrating player. I think we're better at DT this season, but we can agree to disagree - you're right that it is probably too early to tell.
  10. That would make sense. When I googled it I just got something about Roblox, which as far as I can tell is a game about off-brand lego people.
  11. What does this phrase mean?
  12. I'm surprised by this comment. Maybe I'm just carrying forward old biases, but I thought Broughton and Collins were late bloomers who barely played their way into midround draft spots. And that they actually got overdrafted (especially Broughton). Of the transfers we brought in, the only that seemed be a consistent contributor was Norton. I'm not trying to be too negative about what was, objectively, a good unit, but I still saw a lot of room for improvement. I'm probably enamored with shiny new toys, but the DTs we transferred in seem to be great. Kanu and Watson especially, but Shaw and Brevard have been great too. And January looks ahead of schedule. My opinion is probably more fueled by optimism than anything else, but I really think we improved that room over the offseason. Stop with this shit. The rumor thing is dumb. First, because it's probably bullshit. Second, even if there is a kernel of truth to it, it's not something that needs to be repeated. And third, do you know how many players get trashed on the regular? You think Stetson Bennet was sober all through the 2021 and 2022 seasons? Did that lose UGA games? No. Hell, look at Sweat in 2023 - dude loved to party and still wrecked shop every week. I doesn't sound like you're judging Arch or anything and I'm not the conversation police, but I get annoyed seeing this shit perpetuated.
  13. I think the Covid senior thing has really brought home something that I should have already realized - super veteran QBs are a cheat code in CFB. Before Covid it was unheard of for there to be a guy on his 6th or even 7th year in CFB, but then we got to see what several teams look like with that kind of player running things. Obviously the talent level is lower, or the QB would be in the NFL, but the experience is a game changer. Vandy has one of the most veteran QBs in all of FBS. The dude literally established legal precedent for how long one can tease out the college career. Pavia makes Vandy dangerous. That being said, I just don't think Vandy has the horses. I will be shocked and impressed if they can win even 1 of the three games you mentioned. If they win 2, then they deserve to be in the early CFP conversation. Personally, I don't see it. Pavia maximizes what they can do, but they are still a scrappy underdog at best. When push comes to shove, the team talent will be too much for them to overcome. This is an excellent point, not just about what we need Arch to do in order to win, but also about what we want Arch focused on. If he thinks he has to look like superman in order for us to win games, then he starts pressing again and we see him start to hesitate on open guys and throwing more worm burners. He needs to just focus on picking up yards and avoiding bad plays. I get @Codaxx's concerns about the defense, but I think the defense is still more than good enough to carry us through 99% of our schedule. I understand your worries about Guilbeau - he is definitely the weak spot - but our IDL is so much better than it was last season. In fact our entire front 7 is better than it was last season. Losing a guy like Barron was always going to make the secondary a bit worse, he was just a rare talent and football brain. But we are so much stronger in the box that I think it more than makes up for that loss. Edge, DT, and LB are all elite, and a good pass rush makes the DB's job easier. I tend to focus on that and just hope Guilbeau can be competent (which is what he seems to be). The OL is definitely worse than last season, but by how much? And for how long will it be worse? By getting the right guys out there and giving them time to gel, I think the are only a small step back. And if Baxter is healthy then I think our RB room is better and will look closer to how we looked in '23 than we looked last season. Not trying to rag on you for your concerns, but I think you are focused on the negative. In the ven diagram of pants pissing, you and I are most aligned about what the run game will look like going into Red River. I don't know if a bye week and Florida will be enough time for the OL to get its shit together. So I agree that the run game could still be a WIP by then. But I doubt it takes longer than Vandy or otherwise we really need to worry (even more) about what the fuck Flood is doing with that room.
  14. Would you say you're from Missouri about Missouri? That's a good point. I was assuming the latter, but the announcement was a little ambiguous. Maybe they're just announcing the permanent rivals.
  15. He had the most ridiculous quote in a thread absolutely full of ridiculous quotes. It was impressively cringe.
  16. I'm not as down on the run game as y'all are. Maybe I'm being naive, but Clark and Gibson seem improved since last week. Wisner and Baxter are known quantities and good RBs, if somewhat limited. Simon looks to be the next bellcow. Run blocking needs to improve but getting Stroh off the line will probably help with that. I can see a lineup with Hutson at RG and Robertson at C being what we need to finally have the OL all on the same page. They're still weak at the point of attack and lack any kind of push in clear running situations. But that's the same shit as the last several seasons. And our running was more or less fine. Not elite, but good enough to win and make the CFP. I guess what I'm saying is the ceiling is still limited, but the floor is higher than I thought it would be after last week.
  17. I'm not confident in making that assumption based on what we've seen from Banks over the last couple of years.
  18. "I told you so" is itself a form of threadshitting. The dude has been quiet since Arch started struggling and I am thankful for that without really caring about why. Also, let's not start running victory laps because Arch looked better against SHSU. I'm certainly happy about it and it's a positive data point, but I want to see him bring that same energy against Florida and OU before I jump the broom.
  19. Fuck Tech and fuck Baylor. They can rot. Don't really dislike SMU or Houston but am not interested in playing them anymore either. You left off TCU, but fuck them too. I hope we continue to schedule Rice. They're a cupcake, but they come with history and respect them as a school if not a football program.

  21. I actually love the LSU-A&M pairing. It's like a guy who insists that he doesn't like this particular girl who is really into him, but they keep going home together after parties. He will adamantly deny that they're in a relationship, but she has no shame and is going to turn that series of hook ups into them being a couple. Score one for the ugly girl, looks like she got her man. At least for the 4 years.
