  1. ... but seriously fuck big law. Just a miserable existence.
  2. Honestly, your experience tracks more with what I know about and have seen from the firm culture at Locke Lord. Love was charming at the interview, but he was also "selling" the firm to us at the time. Probably very different once you're working there.
  3. Funny story about Jeff Love. I was at UHLC at the time and was at Locke Lord for an interview. They used to do these big "cattle call" style call-backs where the put us all in a room together at first then broke us out all over the firm for individual interview. It was pretty chaotic and I'll be honest made me lose interest in the firm. I didn't love the lawyers I interviewed with either. After all the interviews were done we go the firm's lunch / dining / reception room to eat. This older guy - Jeff Love - walks up to me and shakes my hand. He introduces himself and says he went to high school with my mom. He tells me some good stories and is generally charming as hell. Talking to him was by far and away the best part of that day and it really stood out. What's crazy is that he went and did that with every law student there. I doubt he went to high school with all of their moms but he probably had some personal anecdote that he was able to share. You hear about that level of charisma but it is something else to see it in person.
  4. Not really what you’re talking about, but he won’t work at V&E if his dad is there. Strict anti-nepotism policy. But those guys all belong to the same CC and he’s have a foot in the door at Baker Botts or wherever.
  5. Ever hear the expression “you’re not in traffic, you are traffic”?
  6. I like how this asshole runs a website but tells everyone to tune into his various radio shows and podcasts to get content.
  7. Really? All this wine talk and no one has started a good cheese tangent? Y'all are slippin.
  8. You're probably right and I'm just being pessimistic. That '22 OL haul was so stacked I'm having trouble believing we'll hold onto all of them. It's probably also not great that I immediately assumed it was an attitude / maturity issue rather than injury, but what Wells said on the podcast the other day really threw me off.
  9. We can speculate about what things mean without it being a panic. That's 90% of why I'm here. I don't mind at all if people disagree with me, but it makes for better conversation if you explain why rather than just assume I'm dooming uncontrollably.
  10. It was On Texas, not IT. Got it mixed up. Here's the video timestamp: Wells said that the staff is pushing Campbell's buttons and that he and Cam are under the needle / under the microscope. Edit: Wells also says it's more about Campbell's maturity than anything. I guess I'm trying to read between the lines, but it sounds to me like he's not stepping up and they're using Cam Williams to push him. If he's not playing on Saturday, I take that to mean he hasn't shown the maturity they want to see.
  11. I think on the last IT podcast with Bobby and Justin that Justin mentioned some issues with Campbell. Like, maturity and attitude problems that were ongoing. I take this as a pretty bad sign - maybe Campbell has already told them he's going to the portal? Maybe he's pissed that he's still competing for reps? Justin was pretty definitive that as soon as Hutson comes back that he is starting at either G or C.
  12. I don't know if he's any better than Ovie - other than sacks, his numbers aren't better. But Burton has said several times that the staff is going to kick the tires on any player in the portal who could get into the rotation at DL or edge. This guy fits the bill, so why wouldn't they take a look?
  13. Good breakdown from when he entered the portal: https://247sports.com/college/florida-state/Article/FSU-football-Florida-State-Seminoles-Derrick-McLendon-defensive-end-transfer-replacement-impact-207450264/ "McLendon was a replacement-level player in the Power Five, recording an average/above average Pro Football Focus grade of 67.0 this past season and 65.3 the previous year. He produced 3.5 sacks in both 2021 and 2022, and has 1,027 career snaps over four seasons His 24 Stops were fourth on the team last year, and he had a career-high 29 pressures (2nd on the team). Overall, McLendon has been a solid player. Not a high-impact one, but still solid."
  14. Dane Brugler from the Athletic released his draft guide, The Beast: https://theathletic.com/4387692/2023/04/10/nfl-draft-mock-the-beast-dane-brugler/ Texas players: Bijan Robinson at #6 on the big board (top 100), RB1. First round grade. Roschon Johnson #91 on the top 100, RB7. 3rd round grade. Moro Ojomo is DT14 with a 4th-5th round grade. Keondre Coburn is DT17 with a 5th-6th round grade. Projected as a solid nose tackle whose ceiling is limited by his lack of length. Demarvion Overshown is LB8 with a 3rd-4th round grade. Projected as a role player as a rushing/dropping LB in certain packages. D'shawn Jamison is CB35 and the top priority free agent. Jahleel Billingsley listed as a priority free agent — evaluation is basically "tons of red flags, but has all the athleticism needed for the NFL." One interesting tidbit in the description is that an NFL scout said he left the team after coming back from his suspension because "he wore out his welcome" at Texas. Anthony Cook, Danny Trejo and Tarique Milton not mentioned.
  15. Mike Leach on the officials in the 2007 Tech-Texas game in Austin: "It's a little like breakfast; you eat ham and eggs. As coaches and players, we're like the ham. You see, the chicken's involved but the pig's committed. We're like the pig, they're like the chicken. They're involved, but everything we have rides on this."
  16. I love that even the other cult members were completely agog at that comment. At least some of them of near-normal levels of self awareness. But holy shit some of the other comments are too ridiculous to be believed. "All we need to do is win 10 games, land a top-10 recruit, and have a top-20 squad on both sides of the ball. Do all that and we're back on track." Brilliant. I don't know why nobody has thought of that before.
  17. One of the best (and most literal) examples of "cheerleader effect" I've ever seen. Brunette front-and-center is doing all the work.
  18. I get what you're saying - Ewers did seem like he was seeing ghosts at time last year. But I don't think that's him being afraid at all. Our pass protection was pretty garbage and he took a lot of shots. In the Baylor game it seemed like he had someone in his face every time he dropped back. Yeah, the grounding-for-a-safety play was stupid, but it was the product of learned behavior after a season of collapsed pockets. When he's kept relatively clean, he doesn't play scared at all. Not saying he's perfect, but "afraid" is the wrong word.
  19. The NCAA would have to change the rules setting out the dates of the playing season and the number of intercollegiate competitions each school is allowed. But there's certainly nothing stopping them from doing that if the ADs and Presidents want them to. If it makes money, why not? And if a particular coach doesn't want to (e.g., because the roster is too thin in spots) - then don't do it. I doubt there would ever be a rule saying that you have to play a spring game. Personally, I'd rather see Texas play an HBCU or similar school that could really use the money and will appreciate the opportunity. Maybe Texas State fits that mold, I just don't know.
  20. All this positivity from usually negative corners has me getting dangerously close to Wulaw territory.
  21. The last name similarities between Jerrick Gibson and Corian Gipson keep throwing me off something terrible.
  22. 8 year deal? Either way, it's bullshit. Guy doesn't even specify who is paying or how much will be streaming vs. linear.
