  1. Cook is pretty tight with Arch and appears to be one of Arch's preferred targets. Seems like he would stick around for at least one season where Manning is QB1.
  2. I had the misfortune to see this atrocity at the co-op the other day: https://www.universitycoop.com/Texas-Longhorns-All-Schools-SEC-Hat?quantity=1&custcol_coop_coloroption_gm=5
  3. I don't give a shit who uses the word "natty" or how often they use it. It's the same with words like "irregardless" or saying "literally" when you mean figuratively. It's stupid no matter how many people do it. Words like "natty," "tuddies" and "wardaddies" can all fuck right off.
  4. He's an exciting dual threat QB is a blue blood and he won a big game. He's also improved a lot since last season when he was viewed as a project. Why wouldn't they be hyping him up?
  5. Another element to the defensive playcalling may have been that we were holding back some of the wrinkles we want to use against OU and UGA. If what we were doing (taking away the RPO and deep ball) was working, why change it? Why go deeper in our bag and show the good teams on our schedule what we can do? We still beat MSU by three scores. That may just be me telling myself what I want to believe, but it seems like the decision to not adapt our game plan to MSU's offense was intentional.
  6. I'm not going to weigh in on the whole Campbell / Hutson thing, but man is it nice that we have such a deep OL room. Hutson would have been our best lineman by a wide margin only three seasons ago. It's great that we can even have these kinds of arguments.
  7. DUI and a reputation for partying. It's dumb, but not dumb. When a team like Tennessee correctly bets that they can get him in the second round, it's a massive windfall.
  8. Yeah - at first I thought that it must be something they coached him to do, because that's not how you defend counter as the edge. But the LB's didn't seem prepared to keep contain. Although considering which LBs were in at the time, that may be more on them than Simmons.
  9. Y'all are wild about this Livingstone kid. I know y'all aren't really hating but I see this kid becoming the butt of more jokes and it seems premature. Maybe he's the jaggiest jag to ever jag. Maybe he's just at Texas to pull trim and launch his country music career. His film certainly doesn't jump out to me, at least not enough to warrant the modest amount of hype he's gotten. But he's also a true freshman who clearly had a longer developmental curve. I wasn't expecting to really see anything out of him this season. I'm just not ready to write him off yet considering that smart people think he'll be pretty good. He also gave us one of the bigger chuckles we had at A&M's expense during the 2023 recruiting cycle. So there's that.
  10. I'm honestly more worried about how he plays against counter / pulling guards in the run game. Instead of crashing down on the pulling guard to jam the lane up from the outside, he tries to dip inside the guard to put himself in the lane. It happened at least three times on Saturday. I understand wanting to get in the running back's lane, but when he goes inside he gives up contain. It did not look like Gbenda or Blackwell were prepared to trade jobs, and that shit can bite us on the ass with how bad their run fits have been. Maybe Simmons isn't not big enough to effectively crash down, but we can't give up contain like that. At any rate, it's not a huge issue. Burke struggled with it too back in '22 and figured it out soon enough. I'm just picking nits because he's otherwise so good as a true freshman. Edit: Here's an example of what I'm talking about
  11. Look, I'm all for bashing California. But if we're going to talk about basketball and talk about title game appearances, rather than just titles, you have to include SDSU from 2023. I'm reasonably certain that San Diego is still in the state of California.
  12. I agree with pretty much every thing you've said, but with one caveat. I've watched a bit of his high school tape and all of his snaps at Texas. I think he is actually a sophisticated pass rusher, but is still working out what he can and can't do as a college freshmen. He used the basic rip move pretty well in high school and was happy to bull rush, but has avoided those at Texas, which is probably smart. He's not strong enough (yet) to bull rush most OTs he'll face and the rip move is really more useful after you've gotten tangled up with the tackle - something he's avoided as much as possible. I've haven't really seen him use the swim move in college or high school, but maybe that's because he doesn't like giving the tackle a chance to get under his pads. I think he's been relying primarily on speed rushing because that's the advantage he has at this point in his game and at this level. But I recommend watching his feet. He very good at playing the "game within the game" against the OT across from him. He'll use a stutter step inside in a series after the OT scene a stunt or two, making the OT pause and lean inside just enough to give Simmons an easy path around. He'll also change his pace up from down to down, making it harder for the OT to get into the same rhythm. To be clear, he's still playing like a freshman. But his pass rush is probably a little more developed/sophisticated than it seems so far this season.
  13. Does he have the size? I know he's listed at 6 ft and 200 lbs, but I'm under the impression that they were being generous about his weight. Not that being under 200 lbs disqualifies him, but it's a bit light for doing work between the tackles.
  14. The whole OTF crew has been talking about whether Ewers should start in terms of him being at 90% to 95%. I don't know if there's an agreed upon method for determining what percentage Ewers is at, but if FCB and OTF have similar sources then it sounds like he's going to sit.
  15. Poor bastards. At least they're honest with themselves.
  16. Seems like this Sluka situation has everyone wound a bit tight, huh?
