I spent the first 5 year of my career in Silicon Valley, and that was 100% my experience.  Outsiders (non-students or alumni) are not  welcome at the Stanford or Cal pregame tailgates.

Seems really fucking stupid for such smart people. You're in an area that pulls in a lot of smart outsiders who are now outsiders with money.

Seems like the first thing you would do is take advantage of that casual angle to sell some swanky tailgates with the football game as just the dessert.

hoe many votes do they need?  I thought I saw it was 3/4s of the league... they dont need to add Cal/Furd to block that with those numbers.  Maybe its if 50%.  Maybe

I think FSU vote + 8 more if I recall.

That's only to dissolve the league (and it's debatable if 50%+1 is sufficient as no specific % is listed but other matters of membership require 75%) and presumably get them out of the Exit Fee, it doesn't touch the GoR.

Tough shit for them.  Nobody forced them to schedule MOO and N.Ill. noncon games.  For that matter nobody forced them into the shitty ACC either.  They had their choice of any conference.  Don't expect too many tears shed for those fuckers.

To be fair, 24 hours ago they had a home game vs Miami on there as well.

Agreed.  Can't see how the BIG doesn't go 1-8-8 or 3-7-7 going forward.

1-8-8 would be the cleanest and makes the most sense.  Gives you the most balanced schedules, balanced travel (except West Coast schools, but that is what it is) and most opportunities for getting teams into the playoff.

It would also just happen to give Fox and the tv partners what they want- frequent rotation for the most top tier matchups.

1-8-8 would still have a tendency to kill rivalries though. It makes sense to leave 2 or 3 spots for those to protect secondary rivalries or unbalanced rivalries. You still have a good rotation though.

With the SEC, when Florida was up in basketball, they made sure UK and Florida played twice.  UK and Tennessee, who were each other's biggest rivals, only played once.  UK rarely won in Knoxville, except the years they won the NCAA.  It was about TV matchups.

I think you're just talking about a couple of carryover seasons between formats.

Prior to 2011/12, we had divisional play and Kentucky played everyone in the East twice.

2015/16, they set up the 3 permanent opponents and Tennessee is one of Kentucky's, meaning they play them 3 times.

In the gap, there were 2 seasons where UTn and UK didn't play twice.

It's not so simple.  Stanford has a lot of sports that generate Olympians that very few other colleges have, let alone P5... er P4 schools.

Texas, for example, does not have men's volleyball or either men's or women's water polo. Not many schools have any of those, let alone all of them.

    Yup.

    Men's Volleyball - 25 Div 1 programs

    Men's Water Polo - 25 Div 1 programs

    Women's Water Polo - 34 Div 1 programs

Each team having a different number of “protected” games sounds like a complete nightmare. And having some with zero regular games is odd. Conferences are gonna be a complete clusterfuck going forward.

B1G teams like to give all of their rivalries names and trophies but don't actually want to play the games.

I don’t think current sec teams like them either.

I think throwing them in the east rather than realigning the divisions back in 2012 didn't do them any favors.

Those of us who play them annually don't necessarily interact with their alumni.

I don't know.  Giving up racists for kiddie fuckers.  Seems like a lose lose.  At least we'll be entertained and some serious cash, which won't help any of us, will be flowing...

Unfortunately, there's plenty of both everywhere.

I couldn't wait and just printed my own.

Also, got one of those knock off Swamp Life stickers at the Racetrac in the bathsalts section.

I feel like Delany during his time at Ohio St. was the one really pushing this narrative as a salve to soothe their losses, which as a Florida fan was quite funny.

Didn't Gee write a really sad letter to fans about how they were still the better school after Florida curb stomped Ohio State and even that was wrong?

Peter Burns keeps using the same statistic The SEC has won 19 football and basketball championships since 2007. The Big Ten has won 1.

    Heck, let's add baseball:

    28-2

Oh, might as well add women's hoops too.

    34-2

Sorry, I guess I'm just bitter, because I wanted Texas in the PAC-12.  Football aside, I'd rather Texas be associated with schools, like Stanford, Berkeley, UCLA and even USC, as opposed to Alabama, Mississippi...and basically anyone that isn't Vanderbilt.

    Well, fuck you too then.
