  1. TLDW: this relatively smaller funeral home took in 127 bodies yesterday and cremated 116. This is 4 to 5 times their normal number of cremations. Thanks New Tang Dynasty Television for actually doing some digging.
  2. I agree with you. The Coronavirus seems like it would be a 24 hour news outlet's wet dream. I don't know that I've ever seen a series of stories more captivating. It's something straight out of a horror movie. So many different angles both in the US and abroad, but I've barely seen any coverage on any of the dedicated domestic news channels. It's sad when the best news outlet on what is happening in China is fucking twitter.
  3. It seems like there is a high number of bad new reports that are coming out this morning. This includes the WHO stating the coronavirus now poses a grave threat to the world, the super spreader Brit, and a NYT article about how the virus is spreading through apartment building pipes in Hong Kong. China has done a pretty good job of managing information, and outside a few outlets, no one has really questioned what's really going on over there. I think once this pops in Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong, they will be pushing information because they will need help. So far the U.S. market hasn't really responded to economic problems, we'll see how it responds to fear.
  4. I'm not sure what this means, but I agree 100%
  5. This team is just the worst.
  6. This team does seem to be improving
  7. If/ when this becomes an epidemic in the US, any idea on how we're going to try to handle it? There must be contingencies for this but I haven't seen anything.
  8. Yeah, I'm not sure why news outlets continue to use Chinese numbers to describe why the situation is getting better, worse or make any judgments. They have been pretty much proven to be based on some algorithm, and not tied to actual cases.
  9. I think that 61 infected is out of 273 on board that were deemed to be in close contact or showing symptoms. Shit is infectious. Need to test the whole boat now.
  10. Welcome. Have a great time on the forty acres!
  11. I saw a link to this story on the Twitters. It's probably bullshit. However. I never thought the Chinese response seemed right for the threat, and to me the rationale that they were trying to save face for their response to SARS I don't believe. if you add the some of the crazy videos (corpses lining hospitals corridors, medical personnel on the streets with weapons, people being barricaded alive in their apartments, villagers manning checkpoints barring outsiders, empty streets in Beijing and Shanghai. throwing pets out of multistory apartments thinking they're contagious) it makes one wonder if these responses would be more reasonable if the numbers below were true. Again probably bullshit, but so are the official Chinese ones, which may give this some legs. http://sandrarose.com/2020/02/chinese-tech-company-accidentally-leaks-real-coronavirus-numbers-24k-deaths-154k-confirmed-cases/ A Chinese tech company may have accidentally released the true numbers of the deadly coronavirus outbreak in China. The official death toll stands at 492 worldwide with over 24,000 confirmed infections globally. But according to statistics briefly posted online by Internet firm Tencent, the true statistics are astronomically higher. On Saturday evening, Tencent published the shocking stats on its webpage titled "Epidemic Situation Tracker". Tencent noted that 24,000 people died from the coronavirus outbreak since late December, and 154,000 cases have been confirmed in China alone. That means the death rate is 16% - significantly higher than the death rate for the SARS virus which killed over 700 people in 2002-03. Moments later, Tencent updated the numbers to reflect the Chinese government's official numbers for that day. The news comes amid reports that crematoriums are operating 24 hours a day in Wuhan, China, the epicenter of the virus. Crematorium workers are reportedly working around the clock to burn bodies from hospitals. In one video a woman in seen crying for her mother who was cremated within minutes of her death in a hospital. The woman did not get to see her mother's body before it was taken to the crematorium. The Chinese government has been accused of suppressing the true scale of the epidemic. There are 11 confirmed cases so far in the United States. The symptoms of coronavirus are fever, cough, shortness of breath, headache, and diarrhea. There is no cure, but Thailand doctors successfully treated a 70-year-old woman with AIDS and flu drugs. The best prevention against the coronavirus and flu virus is frequent hand washing and avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
  12. Yeah I don't get it. I thought people would be bearish due to their recent investments in China and being somewhat of a luxury brand if the global economy is turning south. But they now have a bigger market cap than Ford, GM and Chrysler combined, so what the fuck do I know.
  13. Agreed, but at this point do they even care if they report a new case or a death? I doubt they're even trying to hide shit anymore, it's probably just easier to take a body to the morgue and cremate it, that go through whatever extra steps it takes to test and report.
  14. I'm with you on this one. I think life is going to fundamentally change over the next year. Eventually, it will get back to normal, but it's going to be a bumpy ride. I think we'd probably do a little better than the Chinese, but what happens when this spreads in Pakistan or Bangladesh or one of the other shithole countries? Some governments are probably going to fail.
  15. We're only like 3 or 4% down from all time highs. Today was a papercut.
  16. I am one that never thought you could time the market, but JTFC there are red flags everywhere. Why would you not pull out now?
  17. I saw last night that a Miami, Ohio came was postponed because of coronavirus fears. The was also a festival in Richmond, Va that was canceled too. It's going to be interesting to see how common this becomes over the next several months.
  18. Wanted to know what level of concern I should have and read this: The three patients, two in central Virginia and one in Northern Virginia, meet the clinical and epidemiologic criteria for the virus that's prompted China to put millions under quarantine, the Virginia Department of Health said Sunday. The health department has not released more specific information about where the patients live, work or have traveled.Specific details about the patients won't be released to protect their privacy, health officials say. Officials say they are working closely with the patients and those they've had close contact with recently. If this crisis is real we're going to have to make some tough choices soon.
  19. Multiple cities and states have been screening patients whose symptoms are consistent with the virus. The Virginia Health Department said Sunday that it is investigating two residents in central Virginia and one in northern Virginia "who meet both clinical and epidemiologic criteria" for the virus. Fuck, I happen to live in Central Virginia.
  20. Was watching BBC this morning and they reported that China said that on average everyone that contracted the virus infects 3 others. By now I think those 90000 infected reports may be low. I've flipped over to CNN , Fox, MSNBC from time to time and it seems like it's all impeachment 24/7. IMO, this is a much bigger story.
  21. Agree that we've been fooled before, but China's response to this scares me. How bad is it if they are willing to effectively quarantine 40 million people? They economic and social impact of doing that is staggering.
  22. Shit seems super infectious. China / Society China coronavirus: Wuhan medical staff being infected at much faster pace than reported, sources say Fifteen cases of the coronavirus have been officially reported among medical staff in the city, but doctors say the true number is far higher One says that ‘even now we don’t have enough protective gear’ but hospital workers have ‘no option’ but to carry on The Chinese Centre for Disease Control has identified 15 hospital staff as being infected in the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan city, but two sources with direct knowledge of the situation said doctors and nurses were being stricken at a much faster pace. The outbreak was first reported on December 31, less than four weeks ago, and identified as a previously unidentified pathogen on January 7. During most of that period, medical staff were treating patients in Wuhan hospitals without confirmation of human-to-human transmission. One patient – a suspected super-spreader, or highly virulent carrier of the disease – is thought to have infected 14 staff in one hospital alone, Yuen Kwok-yung, a doctor and infectious diseases specialist at Hong Kong University, said at a press conference.
  23. Yeah, when your seafood market includes wolf pups and civets, you kind of deserve whatever you get.
