  1. No, it really was unique. He showed up a season earlier than the coaches expected him, due to NIL, and he missed the first camp. I believe he is the only player to have ever done this.
  2. The Ewers situation really was unique. It's not correlative.
  3. ...
  4. I accept the correction. The logs I looked at only showed games where he recorded stats. I guess he played special teams in some capacity then. He has no stats for those 13 other games.
  5. We got lucky as fuck. We had 2, and likely 3 blue chip OL fall into our laps with the Cristobal and Riley coaching changes. Then Ewers gave us some juice. Things could have gone the other way with the currents flowing in a different direction or even just with different timing. Still gotta show a much improved product on the field next season. We won't get lucky 2 seasons in a row.
  6. I was responding to someone asking why this recruitment wasn't getting more hype. He played in six total games in 2 years. He didn't play special teams. When you have 5 DB's on the field against most offenses, he got almost no playing time. Does that mean he's terrible? No. Does that mean he's going to bust here? No. Does that mean he's going to be a career backup here too? No. It just means there's legitimate reasons to not get too high on someone who hasn't shown he's starter material yet. And yes, there are examples of backups blowing up elsewhere. I hope it happens here too, but let's also acknowledge that the Jameson Williams of the world are more of the exception rather than the rule.
  7. He was there 2 years. He's been a backup for his career. He would be halfway through his eligibility if he had earned playing time there. Look, I'm not trying to shit on the guy. He has talent and Ohio St. has good personnel in their defensive backfield. It's possible he got lost behind talented, more experienced players. Let's see what he can do here, but I'm taking an even keeled approach to him.
  8. He's a career backup. He might do well here, but let's keep perspective.
  9. Maalik is a long term project who needs to completely redo much of his mechanics. He also needs to learn to play QB at a high level. He needs to work on almost every aspect of being a QB. This will take years. Burke is a good player right now with an elite frame and plus athleticism. He just needs to fill out and he could see the field very quickly. While I'm sure he needs to learn stuff too, what's on his plate is a metric ton less than Maalik. They're on completely different time lines and Maalik is just much more likely to not make it because of how much he has to learn and implement vs Burke.
  10. I don't think anyone is suggesting position coach here is better than OC at Pitt. It's the Temple OC job we think we can overcome.
  11. Brewster and Drayton jumped to HC directly from position coach at UT.
  12. I think he's a top 3 back in the country. I'll be very surprised if he isn't the starter.
  13. It sounds like we helped him get his spot at UTEP. He looks like a perfect fit for our current system. Him, plus maybe Addison if we land Marion, and we're an average OL from being killer on offense.
  14. We'd need a lot more buy in. The TE's make pretty good money, more now that there's fewer players and no new additions. However, there's nowhere near enough for DL too. We need to get the other message board communities more involved. There's at least three other large UT message board communities which probably aren't contributing much right now.
  15. 40 yard dash. Last place finisher dies?
  16. He is a freakish athlete for his size. He can definitely play outside with good S&C. That would allow Campbell and Neto to form one of the most athletic pulling guard combos in the country. That is not a 3 star player.
  17. Also, the Pitt board seems a little traumatized by Sean Watson. His name has come up several times in their Marion thread. I feel their pain...
  18. Is that bad? That seems bad.
  19. I went to the first Pitt message board in Google. The fans generally don't want Marion to be OC. They want an established OC with experience. They like him as WR coach a lot.
  20. That Pitt OC job could scuttle things, but I think we can get him over OC at Temple.
  21. If Ewers is as good as advertised, he'll only be here two years. The only overlap with Manning would be his redshirt freshman year. Timing works out well.
  22. Gray was an OK college back. He had good, not great athleticism. He was reasonably productive before the injury. He was nothing special at all. He could be counted on to run himself into a tackle 1 to 3 times a game. At times he just made horribad cutting decisions... head scratching ones. He had mediocre instincts. He was way overrated as a HS prospect.
  23. Jimbo's old OL coach is probably available.
