Hopefully CDC would not allow that. I agree those regimes damaged themselves horribly with the initial coaching staffs. I think CDC will ask who they would be bringing as assistants. It needs to be part of the evaluation.
You evaluate your best options. If the best option is a G5 coach, you hire him. Past failures with G5 coaches does not mean the next G5 coach will not work out. Sometimes you get a Herman, sometimes you get an Urban. More likely you get something in between. You just want someone very good making the evaluation and decision.
I think people dismissing a Fickell or Napier because Herman and Strong were busts aren't looking at the situation quite right. Strong was the result of a disastrous, panicked process. He's kind of an outlier. He never should have been hired. While Herman was a hot name at the time, he did have some red flags. However, just because Herman didn't work out, doesn't mean the next up and coming coach is going to bust as well. Each coach is different and needs to be evaluated on individual merits. Some might have the goods, and some might not. Urban Meyer wasn't a successful P5 coach before Florida.
I'm not necessarily advocating for those guys particularly. I'm not familiar enough with either of them. However, I don't think they should dismissed out of hand because they're not established P5 coaches already. Neither Herman nor Strong should be any kind of factor in their evaluations.
If Herman is our coach next season because we didn't have the buyout money, that's 100% on CDC. If he had the ability to buy out Herman, before Urban said no, and chose not to, but now can't secure the funding... that's on CDC for not making the move when he had the chance. Bottom line is CDC better come up with that money because the alternative is nuclear apocalypse bad with recruiting and the one time free transfers coming.
It simply cannot be Sark. We cannot stake huge money on a guy who is 1 drink away from falling apart. I would hate a Franklin hire or a Cristobal hire. I could live with Campbell, Fickell or Napier. Will we have the money for those names? I hope so. We cannot have two straight throw away recruiting classes.
Fine... even then, what's he been saying? Herman's going to be fired after back to back loses to TCU and OU? Hard call to make... Has he said anything that anyone one of us couldn't have made up ourselves?
And we never heard of these people before a few days ago. Hell, they could be any one of us... or someone else entirely. Lots of trolls come out at a time like this...
I honestly don't have time to read the last 40 or 50 pages. When last I read we were starting to feel pessimistic. What happened that we're now so optimistic?
If signing day wasn't like 2 weeks away, I don't think anyone would be freaked out. But the potential new coach effect on the recruiting class will be more than halved after NSD 1. The clock is seriously fucking ticking...
Urban's not going to drag it out with signing day coming up FAST... unless he's willing to let early signing day pass without doing any recruiting. If he's taking the job, he needs to do it fast. He can see the amount of work that needs to be done to salvage the current class. (Unless he's banking on the one time free transfers to fill in gaps.)
Would we really fly in Meyer before firing Herman? If Herman is doing a presser today, that's not good for our odds with Meyer. Signing day is coming up fast.
When they measured Connor Williams at the combine, it turned out he didn't really have Tackle measurements and had short arms for the position. That was a big hit to his draft stock. I don't think Cosmi is going to have that issue. Cosmi's final season was not as dominant as hoped, but it was solid. Perhaps he's not a top 10 pick, but the first round should be very possible, and is more likely than not... assuming solid combine + pre draft workouts etc...
Aren't the dates, relative to his buyout number, just about when we file the paperwork? Can't we just announce it now and keep him "on staff" until the date it gets a little bit cheaper?
He still has a chance at an NFL future. He's risking injury. He can't count on his blindside anymore. He's taken enough hits for the university. He's taken more hits than anyone in the country these four seasons, probably by a wide margin.
We need to fire the fucker RIGHT NOW. What recruiting we have will completely fall to shambles if everyone knows he's going to be fired but is still roaming the sidelines while we wait for some polite, arbitrary stopping point.
Sam should opt out. He was already running for his life on most plays. The kid needs to think about his future. I doubt he will, but he's about to take a much worse beating that otherwise.
